Neighbourhood Policing - What Is It?

Policing in England and Wales is getting more and more in touch with the needs of the public. It has been raised in recent times that police officers are inaccessible and preoccupied with bundles of paperwork. To this effect, the police are currently experiencing a shift towards a more community based style of policing. Neighbourhood policing is new and here to stay.

The whole point of neighbourhood policing is to interact with the communities to provide greater safety, understanding and confidence in the police force. This can all be a good part of improving the quality of life experienced in the many communities that make up England and Wales.

The point of neighbourhood policing is also to make the police force more citizen aware. By working with members of the community, their needs can be more easily assessed. This also has a great effect of boosting the police presence on the streets. By doing so, crime can be more easily prevented before it occurs and the more vulnerable members of the community can be protected.

A relatively new addition to the police armoury has come in the shape of a PCSO. **End Summary** Topics: become a police officer police officer join the police
About the Author:
If you are interested in a career in the police and would like to know more about how to join the police then simply click on the following link: police recruitment

Understanding The Police Complaints Procedure

The police force in England and Wales is committed to ensuring that the service provided by the force is as effective in dealing with crime and establishing a presence as possible. In order to fully achieve its promises, the police complaints procedure is in place. This makes it easy for members of the public to make a complaint, safe in the knowledge that it will be dealt with in a fair and professional manner. Misconduct by any member of the police force is never tolerated in the slightest and will be dealt with in the strictest of manners.

There are many different types of behaviour that might constitute misconduct. Anything from foul language to excessive force or even more unlawful crimes are all accepted as misconduct. The police force is, of course, committed to serving the public and treats this very seriously; any suggestion that communication or understanding has broken down will be immediately dealt with.

The police complaints procedure has many different routes and stages that can be chosen, often depending on the severity of the complaint. Firstly, if the complaint is a minor one then a senior police officer could deal with it. **End Summary** Topics: police offcer police recruitment police force
About the Author:
If you are interested in a career in the police and would like to know more about how to join the police then simply click on the following link: police recruitment

What Is Citizen-focused Policing?

The police force need to serve the public in a way which is useful to them. The public needs to be safe and free of crime and an effective police force will ensure this is the case.

However, policing is not a simple matter and there are a large number of things which are all worth considering. To fully serve the public and the communities that constitute England and Wales, a citizen-focused policing style is to be employed.

The policing structure in England and Wales is being changed on a large scale. The drive to promote a community presence and for citizen-focused policing is going to take over the way in which policing is achieved. This new style comprises several aspects of the nature of the police force and aims to make the police more approachable and effective in their work.

The police aim to improve the way the public can interact with them. This creates a greater air of trust and co-operation between the police force and the local community in which it serves. By doing so, police officers can engage with the community and vastly improve the quality of life experienced by its residents. **End Summary** Topics: become a police officer police officer join the police
About the Author:
If you are interested in a career in the police and would like to know more about how to join the police then simply click on the following link: police recruitment

The Police Forces Use Of Tasers

The police are responsible for the safety of our communities and their residents. They must be equipped with everything they need to perform their duties effectively and sometimes this requires a little extra force. After a trial carried out in England and Wales with five police forces, the police use of tasers came into effect across the entire country.

Chief officers are now able to give special police officers the power to carry and use a taser gun if the situation warrants the police use of tasers. The association of chief police officers have laid out the guidelines which determine when a taser can be deployed and these are the most dangerous of occasions. As of 2007, the home office has permitted police officers to use tasers in a greater number of situations, following their great initial success.

Firearms officers are incredibly well trained and are able to use the most precise and calculating of judgements to ensure a taser is used with uppermost caution. In addition to firearms officers, a trial was launched in 2007 in ten police forces in England and Wales. **End Summary** Topics: police officers become a police officer police training
About the Author:
For more information on the police force and the type of police careers that are available to you please click on the following link: police course

Police Training College

We owe a lot to the police force; our streets and communities are much safer under their guidance and we can now be safe in the knowledge that there is a highly professional team of police officers doing their very best to improve our quality of life. However, without a police training college, all of this would not be possible. Even though police officers are very professional and responsible people, they still need to equip themselves with many a skill and knowledge in order to make them effective officers of the law.

The police selection process is very strict indeed. There are many reasons why a potential candidate can be rejected. Even after an initial pre selection, many officers will fail the tests required by the police force.

After a successful selection process, an applicant is not yet ready to be handed a baton and pepper spray. Before becoming a police officer, it is necessary that each successful applicant completes a training course at a police training college. These are placed around the country, the most famous of which being the Hendon Police College.

Courses are not residential and are of 25 weeks in length. **End Summary** Topics: police training poice course police recruitment
About the Author:
If you would like to read more about police training and the type of police courses that are available to candidates looking to join the police force simply click on the following link: police recruitment uk

Police Pensions and Their Retirement Policy

The job of a police officer is not an easy one. There are numerous stresses and pains that may well take its toll after many years of service. It's only fair, therefore, that a police officer is allowed to enjoy his or her retirement. Police pensions and retirement policy is thus in place.

The first point to mention regarding the police pensions and retirement policy is the age at which it is compulsory to retire from the police force. For most officers, this is at the age of 60 although for any officer of a rank higher than chief inspector this age is 65. The physical requirements of a police officer are very tough and specific; as an officer ages, he or she may no longer be able to perform their duties due to an ageing body. Since their job is so very important, the officer would be required to retire. In some cases this age can be put back by the police authority.

The police pension scheme as it stands today came into force in 2006. The arrangements are based upon the final salary of the police officer who has to contribute 9. **End Summary** Topics: police officer police force police recruitment
About the Author:
If you would like to find out more about a career in the police and how you go about passing the police recruitment process, simply click on the following link: how to become a police officer

Understanding The Police Powers When Your Arrested

The police powers when arrested are in place for a reason, a good reason at that. To keep our communities safe, the police force need to be able to remove and detain anyone that may pose a threat or that has committed a crime. The police can stop, search and arrest any member of the public that may be in the process of committing or that has just committed a crime.

The police don't even need to know that you have or are going to commit a crime; all that suffices is that they have reasonable grounds for believing that you may or may be in the process of breaking certain laws. In some circumstances a court order or warrant can be obtained for the arrest of somebody - often more serious crimes.

There are other reasons why a police officer may find it necessary to arrest somebody even if they have not necessarily committed any crime. If they are a possible threat to themselves then they can be arrested as well as if they are posing a danger to the public. **End Summary** Topics: police officer police force police recritment
About the Author:
If you are considering joining the polce and would like more information on how to become a police officer simply click on the following link: police recruitment

What Powers Do PCSO's Have?

Police Community Support Officers, or PCSOs as they are more commonly known, came into force in 2007. They are part of a drive towards a more community based style of policing. The standard powers of PCSOs aren't quite as wide and significant as those of a police officer but they are still enough to make a big difference to the community in which they serve.

By the end of 2007, there were 16,000 Police Community Support Officers on our streets. The standard powers for PCSOs are all defined and well set out. Their main role is to provide a strong police presence on the streets and to ensure that members of the community feel safe and protected. The police wish to achieve a greater level of integration in our communities. This all helps prevent crime and keep vulnerable residents safe from crime that affects them.

Standard powers for PCSOs include the ability to issue a fixed penalty notice for a variety of minor offences. These include littering, cycling on a footpath or for any dog related offence such as allowing it to foul on a footpath. **End Summary** Topics: police community officer police commuity support officer pcso
About the Author:
If you would like to find out more about becoming a pcso and the process of pcso recruitment simply click on the following link: police community support officer

Police Equality and Diversity

We can easily notice nowadays how diverse the UK is becoming. It is highly evident, especially in the more urban areas of the country. The police equality and diversity policy and attitude is, by necessity, changing and adapting to mirror the demographics of the communities in which they serve.

The police force constantly strives to ensure a very strong, even unbreakable, link between the police force and members of the community. This has to take race and ethnic issues into consideration. The police force must therefore negate all suggestions of discrimination, however slight, and ensure that the modern police force in England and Wales is fair on everyone.

Apart from being a more ethical stance to take, the level of police equality and diversity will have a large impact upon the service that the force is able to provide to our many communities. By becoming more diverse, the police force is able to integrate itself into our communities much better than it ever has before. By constructing itself from officers of other ethnicities, the police force can be far more approachable to those of a different race, origin, gender or sexuality. **End Summary** Topics: become a police officer be a police officer
About the Author:

What Are The Pay and Benefits of a Police Officer

The role of a police officer in England and Wales is a very difficult one. The responsibility with which officers are charged is a very serious one; the safety of the public is at stake and only the more suitable officers are ever chosen. Since the police force needs responsible and committed individuals to carry out its duties, the pay and benefits of a police officer have to be in line with this.

The salary of a police officer is really quite competitive. Upon appointment, a police officer can expect to be earning £21,000 per annum. This increases (to around £23,000) after just 32 weeks and then a pay increase occurs each year for ten years after the two year probation period. After ten years service, a police officer can expect to be earning more than £32,000.

On top of this, police officers are also eligible for up to £2,000 worth of allowance costs which is separate from their normal salary.

The pay and benefits of a police officer extend to the years after their retirement. The pension scheme for a police officer is really very agreeable. **End Summary** Topics: become a police officer join the police be a police officer
About the Author:
For more help and guidance on passing the police recruitment process simply click on the following link: become a police officer

Qualities Needed to Become a Police Officer

There are many different reasons why somebody may chose to join the police force and many different qualities needed to become a police officer. The requirements are very tight for a very good reason and the safety and lives of the public are on the shoulders of the police.

So what are the qualities needed to become a police officer and how can you make sure you pass the tests?

Firstly, the physical tests are possibly the easiest aspect for most potential officers and any person with a moderately good level of fitness can pass quite easily. There is a strength and endurance section and neither of these is particularly difficult. If you think you are either weak or lacking in stamina, then a bit of work in the gym will help overcome this issue.

The ability to work under pressure, perhaps even immense pressure is also a very good quality which will make you stand out from the other applicants. This is tested in the role play scenarios but if you can demonstrate a great ability to keep calm then you will really stand out. **End Summary** Topics: become a police officer be a police officer police officer recrutiment
About the Author:
Passing the police recruitment uk process requires you to complete a number of assessment stages, including the police role play scenarios, police numerical testing and a police interview.

Not only is being a police officer mentally challenging, you also need a fair amount of physical ability too. There is no shying away from the gym tests when endeavouring to become a police officer in the UK. You need to pass the fitness tests to stand a chance of getting in, even if some officers' fitness may have slipped a little since they joined. Nonetheless, you must pass the police fitness requirements test before being considered as an officer.

There are two main components of the fitness test: strength and stamina. The strength test is a series of five pushed and five pulls on a machine that measures how hard you are able to push and pull. The requirements for this are not very difficult and a active and healthy person should have no real problems here.

The second part of the police fitness requirements is stamina. For this there is something called the bleep test. In essence you have to run 15 meters and back again in between bleeps. If you keep within the bleeps then you stay in and you fail when you are too slow. **End Summary** Topics: police fitness police fitness test police recrutiment
About the Author:
If you want to know more about the police fitness test for the police recruitment uk entry process then click on the following link: police fitness test

Many of us have considered joining the services at some stage in our lives whether its the medical, fire fighting or a law enforcing one. The thrill of pressure and making such a huge difference can be a hugely appealing for many of us who would seek to make the most of the time we can spend in work. There are many opportunities in the police force for job satisfaction or even career advancement for those with ambitions.

There are unfortunately many people who would love to work for the police and many of these are unable to as they do not meet the very specific requirements needed if they are to succeed with their application. With so many different duties that police officers are expected to fulfil, these requirements are not just a chance to be picky or turn down applicants.

How To Become A PCSO

Recently, we have seen a large shift in the style of policing in the UK; there is now a much greater focus on community based policing and providing a reassuring presence on our streets. To this effect, we now see many PCSO officers roaming our streets and engaging in our community. PCSO stands for Police Community Support Officer and there are likely to be many more in the future. It's little wonder therefore that many people are considering becoming a PCSO.

Crimes that effect local people in a voluminous nature such as theft and antisocial behaviour are on the rise and becoming a PCSO is a good way to help tackle this growing problem. Such crimes aren't devastating but are still incredibly annoying and sometimes intimidating. For this reason it has hit the headlines on a number of occasions and the number of young people wandering the streets with little to do has worried many residents.

This crime outbreak has been significant enough to warrant the employment of specialised officers to tackle the problem. The job of a PCSO is to provide a police presence to assure residents and to deter criminals. **End Summary** Topics: pcso become a pcso police community officer police communnity support officer
About the Author:
If you to know how to become a pcso and pass the pcso selection process then simply click on the following link to find out more: police community support officer

Passing the Police Tests

For some of us, the idea of spending an eternity stuck behind a desk in some dead end office job sounds like a stint of Sisyphean torture. A career in the police force is far more likely to be challenging and stimulating and could add that job satisfaction that you feel you are currently lacking. There are, however, one or two points to consider before ditching the nine to five and one of these is passing the police tests.

The police tests are there for a reason: You cannot simply put any old member of the public in charge of keeping us all safe and with such high stakes, the right people must be chosen. The tests are very tight and all stages have to be passed if you are to become a member of the UK police force.

If you apply to become a police officer you will have to go through a number of assessments. Firstly, there are the mathematical and spelling tests. Police officers are required to be very accurate and pay attention to detail as well as prepare evidence for court. **End Summary** Topics: police test police recruitment test police recruitment education training
About the Author:
If you would like to find out more about the police recruitment process and how you can gain the edge during the police recruitment tests then simply click on the following link: police test questions

It is very reassuring to know that the people that are keeping us safe and free from crime are highly trained indeed. With such a huge responsibility on the shoulders of each and every police officer in the UK, Police training has to be incredibly professional and thorough.

Before any officer is able to be trained, it is essential that they are able to pass certain tests and interviews aimed at gauging their suitability. If they pass these then they will be able to enrol on a training course. This will then give them everything and every skill that they will need for the challenging task of keeping our communities safe.

Amongst role play based assessments there are also many hours spent learning the various laws and regulations as well as the correct procedures that must be followed. In such a tightly run modern world, accountability and the following of correct procedures is completely vital and there is no way you would expect a police officer to be loose with their bookkeeping. **End Summary** Topics: police training police training course police courses
About the Author:
Becoming a police officer in the UK is one of the most rewarding jobs available but as with any job of this nature there comes a tough recruitment process.

The police force in the UK is one of the most professional and diverse organisations in the world. As far as careers go there is absolutely nowhere in the world where you can be challenged and make a difference as much as it is possible to do so in the police force. There is also the chance of promotion with the police so there is definitely room for career progression if you have the necessary ambitions.

This is a very good thing indeed and the police force is never going to crush the ambitions of any recruits. If you have what it takes to succeed then your talents will pay off and you can progress rapidly towards the top.

Of course, there is an incredible amount of accountability the further up the chain you go in any organisation and the most senior police officers have a huge weight on their shoulders. For this reason, it is very important to think about your suitability thoroughly before coming to a decision. Having said that, if you are selected to become a police officer then you obviously have the skills required, but can you make it to the top? **End Summary** Topics: police force police promotion promotion within the police
About the Author:
If you are thinking about joining the police and would like to read more about the police recruitment process simply click on the following link: police application form

Police recruitment UK has had quite a difficult time over the recent years after several claims of positive discrimination and such issues have tainted its image slightly. However, the police force in the UK is one of the most advanced and professional in the world and working for such an organisation is likely to be one of the most diverse and unique jobs available in the world today.

Many people may aspire to become a police officer and there are many reasons why one would encourage this idea. The police force could provide a very high level of job security which is simply not to be sniffed at given the less than merry economic forecast we seem to be receiving. Crime figures are also on the rise and with this in mind it is important that the UK gets on top of the mindless few.

Due to the many issues we see on the news regarding the conduct of various police officers, the selection process has never been tighter. There are rigorous checks on various aspects of each candidate's suitability to perform well on the job. These range from a few physical tests to mathematics and spelling. **End Summary** Topics: become a police officer be a police officer police officer recrutiment
About the Author:
If you are interested in police recruitment uk and would like to find out more about how you can join the police simply click on the following link: how to become a police officer

The PCSO Application Process

Unfortunately, there has been a huge increase in the occurrence of antisocial crimes and petit delinquencies. This has been met by the police with the recent addition of Police Community Support Officers, known as PCSOs for short. With the huge increase in media attention, the public is now even more aware of the crimes that are affecting them.

For this reason they are demanding answers and reassurance from their local police authorities. The PCSO application process is as a consequence; one which more and more potential officers are choosing to take.

PCSOs were introduced to get back to community policing roots and provide reassurance to the public that they are safe and unlikely to suffer from petit crimes. The job of a PCSO is therefore community based and dealing with minor crimes and issues facing the residents of the area they are assigned to.

Most PCSOs will not be asked to deal with serious crimes and do not have the power of arrest. Their job is more diplomacy based and they serve as an authoritative figure. **End Summary** Topics: pcso become a pcso police community officer police communnity support officer
About the Author:
To find out more about the pcso application process and how you can pass the pcso recruitment process simply click here: pcso application form

Becoming A Police Sergeant

The work done by the police in the UK is incredibly challenging and on the whole very effective. The work is not undertaken by cowboys and police officers are all highly trained and highly professional individuals. With the safety and trust of the public at stake, they need to be. The whole organisation has a tonne of responsibility placed upon it and there is a very difficult task for those in charge of the whole operation. So what is it like being a police sergeant and how can you become one?

A police sergeant is required to lead a team of officers. Sergeants are generally very experienced and are very good at their jobs. Even though they are of a higher rank than regular police officers, if you can call them that, it is generally the case that police sergeants spend most of their time on patrol. Their job description is roughly the same as that of a police officer even though they still have to lead a team of officers.

To become a police sergeant requires promotion. You have to be a police officer before you can become a police sergeant and you must be fully trained first. **End Summary** Topics: police sergeant police sergeant recruitment
About the Author:
If you are interested in becoming a police sergeant then you will need to pass the police segeant ospre part 2 exam.

If a police sergeant is the career for you then there are two ways in which you can become one. If you are a police officer then you will need to gain promotion and if you are not a police officer you will need to apply to become one. Either way, you can expect some tough questions and some even tougher examiners. This is to ensure that only the most responsible and appropriate people are ever allowed to take on such a huge challenge and responsibility. Police sergeant recruitment is a very serious issue.

Since the public's safety is at risk, the police force will take every precaution and assess every angle when employing a new sergeant. The tests and interviews are likely to be some for the toughest around and only the very best and most suitable will ever get the chance to command a group of officers.

If you are not currently a police officer then police sergeant recruitment for you will involve many different assessments. There is a medical test, fitness tests and also maths and spelling. **End Summary** Topics: police sergeant police sergeant recruitment
About the Author:
If you are interested in becoming a police sergeant and would like to read more about the police recruitment process then click here: police sergeant

The Police Application form

We have all seen a police officer before and they are the reason we are all kept safe in our communities. They do a great job of protecting us from the crime that unfortunately does still occur and reassure us with their presence on the street. For many people, the idea of becoming a police officer, being subjected to stress, danger and torment may seem a little scary and unappealing.

On the other hand, however, others may see this as a challenge and a really diverse and interesting career option. If you thrive on adversity and being placed under pressure, you will love the opportunity to work for the police force.
