Did a Teacher Touch Your Life?

Do you have any cool teacher stories? Someone who impacted your life in a positive way? Someone who told you one thing one time, in passing maybe, and who really made a difference?

Teachers really give a lot for our kids. Talking from experience, I can tell you that knowing that you have made a difference in a kid's life is the most rewarding feeling.

Here's a couple of my stories:

I had this PE teacher in middle and high school. This was in France and for some reason, that teacher was known as Toto and everybody used "tu" when addressing him. This is the friendly, informal way to address people in French and you don't usually do that with teachers. But he was a friend to all of us. I don't even remember his real name! He was always Toto!

I often think of his dedication to us. We were a group of cross country running girls. It just kinda happened. We were all in the same age group and the team naturally formed. But Toto took it a step further. **End Summary** Topics: teachers influence dedication make a difference
About the Author:
Florence Bernard, Founder and Author of Better At School, is offering a FREE copy of her book to the authors of the three most interesting/moving/impacting stories posted on <A href="http://www.betteratschool.com/index.php?option=com_mojo&Itemid=7&p=47">http://www.betteratschool.com/index.php?option=com_mojo&Itemid=7&p=47</A>

Redneck "Educated" Woman

I started the day yesterday with a very inspiring article about Gretchen Wilson. It was funny actually, because I never usually read or listen to anything at the gym. I like to talk with people there. But when I got to my machine to do some cardio, this magazine was there. And I opened it at the right page to find this article.

Now, if you are not from the United States, or if you are not into country music, you might not know who Gretchen Wilson is. I am not particularly into that kind of music but one of my friends is a big fan, so I knew the name and a couple of songs. Gretchen Wilson is really pretty big on the Country Music scene.

Anyway, much as one could say that she had everything anybody could dream of, there was still something missing: a High School Diploma. You see, Gretchen went through a not-so-easy childhood and she left school in 8th grade. And she went on with her life. Her career picked up and became what it is now and she is doing well for herself. Probably better than most will ever dream of. **End Summary** Topics: High School Diploma Gretchen Wilson Education school children success
About the Author:
Florence Bernard, Educator, Author, Coach, Entrepreneur

Education IS a privilege

Over ten years ago, I worked in a private school in Nairobi, Kenya. People who haven't had a chance to travel often have a skewed vision of Africa. I had certain expectations when I got there but I soon realized that I had been misled by things I had seen on TV about all the different aspects of that amazing continent. In any case, the one thing I can say about my experience there, it that I met the most interesting, most motivated and mature students of my entire carrier. These children, from a very young age, were simply grateful for their education.

A few years ago, I met another teacher who had taught on the other side of Africa, in Ghana, but not in a private school like me, but in a little village school lost in the bush somewhere. One might find this strange but she, also, met the most interesting, most motivated and mature children there.

These children, both the ones I met in Kenya and the ones she met in Ghana could hardly have been any more different. **End Summary** Topics: school education coaching children kids success self-development Africa freedom
About the Author:
Florence Bernard, Educator, Author, Coach, Entrepreneur

Education: Criticisms but What Solutions?

Education is a big debate. There is no doubt that there is room for improvement in this country and many others. God knows it is a big topic of discussion in parties, meetings, gym classes and homes. And everywhere else.

Now what has come to my attention whenever I come across one of those instant "open forums" where everybody gets to jump in and share his/her views is that everybody knows what's not working but nobody has any solution. The discussions are merely criticisms or teachers, the government, parents, kids, video games, TV or whatever else it to blame for the O-terrible-state-of-education. But who has anything to propose to actually change things?

I've just spent some time in France. The French, as we know, as the champions of strikes! You can be pretty much guaranteed that there is always some form of strike going on in France at any given time. It's amazing! The most amazing thing is that it has become a principle. You just say no to everything and go on strike. **End Summary** Topics: education parenting school debate change
About the Author:
Florence Bernard, founder or Better At School is a Parental Consultant and Motivational coach.
Watch Your Relationships!

This should be read by kids and parents together.

Young children are known to be pretty horrid to each other. I have heard some of the meanest things in playgrounds! Teenagers go through a lot as far as relationships go. Everybody knows it and everybody goes through it or has gone through it, so it's no big deal. We know, as adults, that we get over it eventually. Still, sometimes, it really hurts and teenage hormones may lead to unexpected reactions. Children and teenagers don't always have the maturity to put things into perspective yet.

Discovering new feelings is disturbing. There is more and more social pressure in schools to be a certain way and part of the "in" crowd. But the "in" crowd is not the right one for every child. When facing a difficult social situation, when you try to adjust pretending to be someone else to fit in, or when you find yourself left out because you won't settle for certain rules, it creates a world of new emotions that have to be faced. **End Summary** Topics: kids teenagers parenting school relationships children raising kids
About the Author:
Florence Bernard advises parents to become better educators with some insider's information gathered along her 17 years in education.
Never Give up in MLM

They say that it's when you give you that you were actually the closest to your goal... Except that you'll never know because you gave up! There are a few things in my life I let go and didn't pursue, because maybe at the time, I gave myself excuses and reasons, that it wouldn't be worth it, when in reality I was probably scared to face reality. A reality that could have changed my life... I sometimes wonder how things would be, had I not given up or let the opportunity pass by.

But I am a believer that things happen for a reason, so I don't stop too long pondering on things like that. And while I was writing this article, I came across this quote by Henry D. Thoreau: "Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it." This fits in perfectly with what I wanted to say. And there are no coincidences.

What you focus on is what is going to define your success. And defining success is the key. What you really need to do is get busy to achieve what you want and what needs to be done. **End Summary** Topics: MLM network marketing Agel
About the Author:
Florence Bernard - Network Marketing professional/entrepreneur.
The Best Year Ever

You want to know what 2009 is going to be like? Well, I am going to tell you, so read on!

But first I want to tell you something else: 2009 is going to be the best year ever for me and all people surrounding who will be open enough to listen. Why, how? Because I know it. Because I can see it and feel it. Because it is my clearest, surest and most definite intention.

Now I am going to tell you what 2009 is going to be like for you. There are two possibilities and I invite you to choose.

First, you can carry on as you are. You can keep listening to what people say, to the radio and watch bad news on TV or read the big bad titles in the newspapers. You can look around in stores and pretend that they are empty, you can count the people who have lost their jobs with everybody else, you can remain convinced that Wall Street is falling apart and that Real Estate will never be the same again, and so on and so forth... **End Summary** Topics: New Year 2009 education self-development positive happiness network marketing MLM better at school
About the Author:
Florence Bernard, founder or Better At School is a Parental Consultant and Motivational coach.
Mathematical Formula to Success

Have you ever wondered what use you were ever going to make of learning how to solve mathematical equations? I think we all have to admit that most of us don't tend to use that knowledge on a daily basis... mmmm...

What if we did? What if we used it in a very natural and practical way that doesn't actually involve a pencil and an eraser and little numbers on a piece of paper? I remember learning the basic rule that would solve all the equations: + and + equals +, + and - equals - and, - and - equals +. You remember? We could equate this to the three categories of people found in life.

The + + category first: These are the positive people, the ones who are always happy and successful. Things always seem to go great for them. Of course, life is life and they encounter their share of difficulties, obstacles, heart aches and struggles. But they keep smiling through it all and look forward to a better day, which they always get to. They are not exceptional people; they are not more talented than any of us. **End Summary** Topics: Self-development Education values success motivation attitude tutoring business be successful life
About the Author:
Florence Bernard, founder or Better At School is a Parental Consultant and Motivational coach.
Busy Bees and Efficient Work

Do you know any of those people who never have a minute, are always running around, who stress you out just looking at them? Or worse still? Are YOU one of those people? Do you feel that you have worked yourself to exhaustion and yet you haven't moved forward or there is still just as much to be done?

Well, people like that have huge potential. They are an asset everywhere they work because they are passionate and always want to do more and better. Unfortunately, they are not always good to themselves because they don't know where to stop and end up overworked, overstress and eventually useless.

What these people lack is a sense of prioritizing. They know their stuff, they get things done and they do it well. But by overwhelming themselves with tasks that might not be priorities, they will spend enormous amounts of time trying to do things perfectly - because they wouldn't settle for less - and then still have to do the really important things.

In any job, there are always things to get done. But some can wait, or some are not actually really needed. **End Summary** Topics: Education success teenagers parenting school motivation school tutoring work better results
About the Author:
Florence Bernard advises parents to become better educators with some insider's information gathered along her 17 years in education.

The following is a re-ordered compilation of a few thoughts that randomly came to me while running this morning, listening to the great Zig Ziglar on my IPod. You'll find that it is more intended to parents who have teenagers and who want them to regain their motivation, but, in the process, I think there is something for everybody.

In the recording I was listening to, Zig Ziglar made a "profound" comment: you only ever work for yourself. And he went on talking about the value of work well done and the lessons it teaches you, and of course the success it brings into your life. He also talked about attitude in life and it reminded me of another great man, Earl Nightingale, who calls attitude the Magic Word. Of course there is also The Richest Man in Babylon who sometimes really wonders why he is working so hard for so little reward, and yet, he understands it later and gets the full benefits.

Mediocrity breeds mediocrity. Head Hunters look for the people everybody want, the people whom everybody admires for the quality of their work. **End Summary** Topics: Education values success teenagers parenting school motivation attitude school tutoring
About the Author:
Florence Bernard, founder or Better At School is a Parental Consultant and Motivational coach.
The Education Triangle

The biggest problem in education nowadays is that people don't see what it is really about. Education is a TRIANGLE. Education works only when all sides of the triangle are in contact. If you separate one side of the triangle from another, you end up with a bunch of lines that resemble NOTHING.

It is exactly the same in education. Parents have to communicate with schools that have to communicate with students who have to communicate back to their parents who have to communicate to their kids who have to communicate to the teachers who have to communicate to the parents who have to communicate... Do I need to carry on? I think you get it!

A lot of the time, your kids' education is like these 3 lines of the Education Triangle separated from one another. Your kids think the teacher sucks so they won't talk to him/her; they think YOU suck, so they don't talk to you either. In return, you don't know how to talk to your kids and you blame yourself or the school and no one wants to make the first move... And everybody stays stuck in the same shapeless, unproductive situation! **End Summary** Topics: education parents kids communicate teachers teenagers better grades children
About the Author:
Florence Bernard advises parents to become better educators with some insider's information gathered along her 17 years in education.
How to get around people who "don't do" MLM?

This is too funny! It never ceases to amaze me how so many people get super defensive when I tell them my company is an MLM and yet, their whole life revolves around network marketing... Well, unpaid network marketing that is! What are people thinking?

So this afternoon, this friend of mine tells me about this great site a friend of hers told her about where you can shop online for great brand names up to 75% off. "Great stuff!" she says, "They send you an email every day with the new sales". So I told her: "Well, this must be a network marketing company, you must get something when a friend of yours joins thanks to you." "Oh no, no, no", she says, "I don't do MLM" ... Well sure enough. The funniest thing is that she didn't even know she would make some money and yet she was so excited about telling us about it!

It kinda got me thinking! Maybe we should not tell our prospects that there is money to be made and then they would go around telling everybody and be very successful. **End Summary** Topics: MLM opportunity network marketing AGEL Florence Bernard home business work from home
About the Author:
Florence Bernard is a Home Business Owner and loves Network Marketing.
Network Marketing and MLM: The Silent Giants

Robert Kiyosaki talks about all these new things that develop in the background and take over other known giants. For instance, he talks about those new ways to communicate that are suddenly making travelling for business a lot less necessary. Why do you need to fly from New York from LA and then to Japan when you can get everybody on a free conference call or even video conference?

Then he talks about the power of network marketing and MLM in that respect. And it makes so much sense to me! There is going to be a point where people realize that there is no reason why one good idea or product should benefit just one person.

Everybody uses network marketing. Yes, I mean it! EVERYBODY! Don't you ever tell your friends about the last great restaurant you tried? About the last store you went to that had great sales? Look at something like facebook? How many of us just linked to our address book to tell people about facebook. **End Summary** Topics: MLM network marketing AGEL leverage residual income passive income economy home business
About the Author:
Florence Bernard - Network Marketing professional/entrepreneur Florence Bernard discovered MLM through an emerging giant called AGEL.
The Economy? So what?

A couple of years ago, I was having an IPod bought for me and I had the option to have something engraved in the back. I chose to have: I am always at the right place at the right time. Being into self-development and the law of attraction and very aware that I am in control of my destiny, I really like to live by this quote.

I recently came across what a very successful entrepreneur once said: the secret of success is to be at the right place at the right time and to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. This really spoke to me. Yes, great opportunities pass us by all the time, not because we don't see them but because we just don't do what it takes to really embrace them. We take a quick glance, pre-judge based on what an old friend once said and let it go. Or we let our conviction do its part for a short time and the ghost of old beliefs and fears comes back and we give up. Or we want instant gratification and it doesn't come fast enough...

Your network marketing business IS a business. It's not a part-time hobby. **End Summary** Topics: MLM network marketing AGEL leverage residual income passive income economy home business
About the Author:
Florence Bernard - Network Marketing professional/entrepreneur fmtb@doitasyoufeel.com <A href="http://www.doitasyoufeel.com/products">http://www.doitasyoufeel.com/products</A>

Wouldn't you just love to go home and find your kids doing their homework without your having to nag? Wouldn't it just be great if the priority of school work over their favorite TV show was clear in their minds? Well, it can happen. You just have to build the right circumstances and conditions at home and teach your kids a very simple concept.

Why at home when we are talking about school work? I hear you ask. For a very simple mathematical reason: Out of the 24 hours we all have in a day, let's say that kids spend about 8 at school. That's a pretty good average, sometimes it may be more, or a little less. This leaves two thirds of the day where school is not responsible for kids. Who is responsible for them then? You, their parents. You might not be able to always be there with them but you are in charge of making whatever necessary arrangements for them. Now, let's take into consideration holidays and vacation time and we'll see that it's actually a lot more than two thirds of the time that you have to take care of your kids. **End Summary** Topics: parenting tips parenting motivate your children homework tutoring school help your kids at school
About the Author:
Florence Bernard, Parental Consultant.

I was recently talking to a friend of mine who was telling me of her struggle to get her son to read. It got me thinking. Hardly anyone, adults or children, has time to sit down for a minute and read these days. Of course people MAKE time to watch American Idol, or Lost or CSI or whatever other empty TV show. Yes, sorry, I mean this. These are 3 that spring to mind but there are many more. I am talking about TV programs that either show the worst side possible of any human being or that give people a completely distorted version of reality. If I watched the local news, I would never come out of the house. People who live overseas have called me before to ask if I was ok after hearing about whatever event that took place near me on their local TV... Across an ocean, thousands of miles away. What is the point of that? I ask.

So yes, it is a shame that people don't read much because I do believe that there are a lot less mediocre books than mediocre TV shows. **End Summary** Topics: Education parents technology teenagers TV shows reading
About the Author:
Florence Bernard, Parental Consultant - Self-Development for parents and children- +1-954-903-0655-fbernard@betteratschool.com Read More on this topic in Better At School: <A href="http://www.betteratschool.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=2&Itemid=2">http://www.betteratschool.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=2&Itemid=2</A> Develop your children's sense of responsibility, see them grow into self-motivated, goal oriented individuals.
The True Meaning of Authority

Talking to various parents and teachers, I have realized that there seems to be confusion as to the meaning of authority. As I am foreign and I wouldn't want to be mistaken, I thought I would look it up in the dictionary.

Here's what I found:

1- The power to determine, adjudicate, or otherwise settle issues or disputes; jurisdiction; the right to control, command, or determine.
2- A power or right delegated or given; authorization: Who has the authority to grant permission?
3- An accepted source of information, advice, etc.
4- An expert on a subject: He is an authority on baseball.
5- Persuasive force; conviction: She spoke with authority.
6- Right to respect or acceptance of one's word, command, thought, etc.; commanding influence: the authority of a parent; the authority of a great writer.
7- Mastery in execution or performance, as of a work of art or literature or a piece of music.

These are actually only a sample, there are more... No wonder people are confused but the point here is that I wouldn't say that any of these are particularly negative. **End Summary** Topics: parenting authority teenagers education parents kids children son daughter
About the Author:
Florence Bernard, Parental Consultant - Self-Development for parents and children- +1-954-903-0655-fbernard@betteratschool.com

If you are a mum or a dad, I hope this will help you! First let me reassure you that you are always doing your best with your kids. Unfortunately - and that's one of the main reasons why I writing this today and I created a website mainly on this topic - nobody ever taught you to be a parent. You have to make it up as you go along and that's really tough. In my career as a teacher, I can honestly say that the vast majority of parents I met always really had their kids' best interest at heart but sometimes, they simply didn't know how to get it across. Not for want of trying, just because of lack of training, as it were.

Still, there is one big mistake that I have noticed parents tend to make with their kids, especially with their teenagers or pre-teens. You tend to be after your toddlers a lot and make sure that they learn all the basics. When those are mastered, many parents tend to leave their kids to their own devices and drop the boundaries. **End Summary** Topics: kids parents parenting be an example how to raise kids parenting advice teenagers education learning parenting tips mothers
About the Author:
Florence Bernard, Parental Consultant - Educational liaison - +1-954-903-0655-fbernard@betteratschool.com Get Results Now!
10 Tips on Basic Study Skills

This will literally take 5 minutes. These 10 very simple tips about study skills will make all the difference in your life and, more importantly, in your kids' school life.

Tip #1: There is always Homework: What that means is that for each subject that your kids have that day, whether they have been given official homework or not, they must review their notes. This will mean that when a big test or an end of unit test comes, they will never have to study for it. It will also help them be ready for the next lesson with their notes fresh in their minds and ready to ask any question that might have come up.

Tip #2: Keep your notes neat and clear: While your kids are applying Tip # 1, they can kill two birds with one stone and improve the quality of their notes, make sure that they have all the information they need and highlight or underline the important points. Notes full of crossed out words and messy ink patches need to be re-written altogether. In the long run, this will ensure, A: more success for final revision and B, more effective note taking habits. **End Summary** Topics: Study skills kids middle school high School parents homework better grades studying learning
About the Author:
Florence Bernard, Parental Consultant - Educational liaison - +1-954-903-0655 -fbernard@betteratschool.com Get Results Now!
