What Do Jehovah's Witnesses Believe?

How are Jehovah's Witnesses differerent from other Christian religions? What do Jehovah's Witnesses believe?

The Earth Will Become a Paradise

The first thing they would probably tell you is that Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the earth is going to be a paradise.

While most Christian religions, and others as well, such as Buddhist and Muslim, teach of heaven and hell. very few touch on the subject of the earth. Many Fundamentalist Christian religions teach that the earth will be destroyed in fire. Most religions teach or allude to the idea that the earth is a type of testing ground, for one to be judged eternally.

The Jehovah's Witness belief is that the earth will stay forever, but will be cleaned up, at the final day, which the Bible refers to as Armageddon. The Bible states that Jesus will separate the good from the bad, and the bad will be destroyed, "the meek will inherit the earth." Those who pass through the end of this system, what the Apostles referred to as "the end of the world," will help to restore the earth to a paradise, and have the hope of living forever in paradise on the earth. **End Summary** Topics: jehovah's Witnesses jehovah's witnesses beliefs the bible
About the Author:
More Information on Beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses

Sociological Definitions and Jehovah's Witnesses
How can the religious body of Jehovah' Witnesses be defined?

The book, Sociology in a Changing World by William Kornburn and Carolyn D. Smith, City University of New York, Graduate School and Universsity Center, 1994, 3rd edition, defines several types of religions groups, Churces, sects, cults, established religions, and denominations.

A Church is described as a religous body with strong ties to society, thecommunity, the political world. The Catholic Church, Anglican Church are two examples.

A secct is an offshoot from a church or denominatins, that refjects the beliefs and practices of the established churches. It limits its benefits to it's one members, but not to others, in contrast to the church, whose doors are open to anyone, and extends benefits to non-members, as well, whoever might come and visit to listen at the service.

A cult, is described as a new religion, shose beliefs and rituals are different from existing religions. Early Christianity is described as a cult of Jews who believed that Jesus of Namzareht was the Messiah and who pracitced rituals that were quite different from those of Judaism. **End Summary** Topics: jehovah's Witnesses jehovahs witnesses jehovah witness
About the Author:
Please refer to the Jehovah's Witnesses Headlines for more information on the subject of Jehovah's Witnesses beliefs and definitions.

Did Jesus die on a Cross or a Stake?

This quoted text from Vine's Dictionary of New Testament Words, written by a Protestant clergyman in 1940, provides a background of the Greek meanings of the word cross, as well as the historical origins of the cross.

Cross, crucify - Stauros

Definitions and history from Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words.

Noun - Stauros (Greek) denotes, primarily, an upright pale or stake. On such malefactors were nailed for execution. Both he noun and the verb stauroo, to fasten to a stake or pale, are originally to be distinguished from the ecclesiastical form of a two beamed cross.

The shape of the latter had its origin in ancient Chaldea, and was used as the symbol of the god Tammuz (being in the shape of the mystic Tau, the initial of the name) in that country and in adjacent lands, including Egypt.

By the middle of the 3rd century A.D. the churches had either departed from, or had travestied, certain doctrines of the Christian faith. **End Summary** Topics: jesus teachings the cross bible teachings christianity
About the Author:
Please refer to the following article Bible Teachings - Origins of the Cross as well as for other articles on information such as, The History Christmas, the origin of Birthdays, and other related research.

Abortion: Psychological and Spiritual Impact

Why some abort

Millions of women in nearly every country in the world abort yearly. In most countries abortion is legal, in some countries abortion is still illegal. Legalizing abortion makes it safer than that of illegal abortions, which can be more risky, but even legalized abortion carries with it risks.

Women have abortion for different reasons. An unwanted pregnancy is one. Another is the prenatal testing of the fetus, which might indicate that there is some type of congenital defect in the fetus. Sometimes that defect is major, such as in the case of Down's Syndrome, at times it is minor or there is some possibility that there might be a birth defect.

In the U.S. perhaps 30% of pregnant teenage girls abort the fetus of their baby. In one large high school in Newark, the SAC coordinator and counselor stated that, "it seems like every girl that walks through these doors, (her office), is pregnant. (Other sources put the number at approximately 40%. See: Statistics in Adolesent Pregnancy. Teen Shelter Org).

Education and psychological effects

Education provides one solution towards preventing abortion. **End Summary** Topics: abortion teen psychological guilt coping education God scriptures religion religious medicine
About the Author:
The Association of Natural Psychology has well-researched articles on abortion and topics related to mental health.
