How Indian Weddings Are Celebrated

In India, many different cultures and religions exist. Though India is very cosmopolitan in outlook, there is a certain ritualistic difference in each religion. The weddings also vary in each part of the state. Indian weddings have been greatly influenced by the effects of migration and modernization. One thing which is common in all religions is colors. All Indian weddings are very colorful. The colors in Indian weddings symbolize happiness and celebrations. The best thing about Indian weddings is the feast, rituals and the marriage songs. Indian marriages are incomplete without the blessings of elders in the family. The parents, grandparents and all the elder members of the bride and groom clan have a very important role to play in all Indian weddings.

Brides of different regions wear different outfits. Like a Mahrashtrian bride is supposed to wear a navarri or a yellow sari for the wedding along with the hair accessories and flower adornments. The Punjabi bride, preferably, has to wear red salwar kameez which is tailored in a traditional way and the dupatta is tightly pinned over the head. And Banarasi and Bengali brides wear silk sarees and apply alta (red color) on their hands and feet. **End Summary** Topics: Jeevansathi.com matrimony matrimonial matrimonials matri
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India’s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online mahrashtrian matrimonial classified services.
Gujarati Weddings – An Extravagant Affair

Gujaratis are deeply immersed in cultural ethics and they take pride in celebrating their religious and cultural ceremonies with a lot of devotion. So, it is not surprising that when it comes to marriages, the Gujaratis enthusiastically participate in all the rituals and ceremonies that are associated with it. A typical Gujarati wedding is a pious affair that is marked by prayers, rituals and entertaining customs.

A Gujarati bride wears a Sari on her wedding day. However, the Sari is worn in a different style than what is worn by the rest of the Indian women. The color of the Sari is, usually, red. Nowadays, lehenga cholis have also become a popular choice among the brides. On the other hand, the bridegroom is attired in the traditional dhoti-kurta. There are also many grooms who prefer to wear designer kurta pyjamas or western suits on the big day.

Like all other Indian weddings, Gujarati weddings are also characterised by a number of pre-wedding, wedding day and post wedding ceremonies.

Pre-wedding rituals:
There are various pre-wedding rituals that are performed before the wedding day. **End Summary** Topics: Jeevansathi.com matrimony matrimonial matrimonials matrimony services online matrimonials Indian marriage match making matchmaking matchmaker
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India’s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online Gujrati matrimonial classified services.
The concept of Arranged Marriages

The concept of arranged marriages has always been a topic of argument among the youngsters and the older generation. Some feel that it is the safest form of matrimony and some feel that it is the most impractical way of getting married.

In an arranged marriage, it is mainly the parents of the prospective bride and groom who scout for the perfect match for their children. Once their daughter or son reaches the marriageable age, they start their hunt for the perfect life partner for them. Once a suitable match is found, the girl and the boy are given sometime to take the final decision. If they agree, they are given a months of courtship period. During this time, they are expected to know each other better. But in some cases, courtship period is also not given and the girl and the boy are made to get married within a few days.

The society has a significant role to play in an arranged marriage. While deciding a match for their son or daughter, parents donâ€'t forget what their society expects from them. Thatâ€'s why, arranged marriages happen, mainly, within the community and not outside it. **End Summary** Topics: Jeevansathi.com matrimony matrimonial matrimonials matrimony services online matrimonials Indian marriage match making matchmaking matchmaker
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India"'s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online Indian matrimonial classified services.
How Sikh Weddings Are Performed

Weddings among Sikhs are an extravagant affair. Rituals of a Sikh wedding are more or less similar to that of a Hindu wedding.

Just like Hindus, Sikhs also give more preference to arranged marriages. In Sikh matrimony as well, the parents of a girl and a boy look for a suitable match. Once the parents find a prospective match, preparations of the wedding begin.

Pre Wedding Rituals

Kurmai or Engagement:
Wedding begins with the engagement of the would-be Sikh bride and Sikh groom. It is, usually, a family affair. The family of the bride visits the groomâ€'s house with gifts that include sweets, clothes and jewellery. After that, the bride and the groom exchange rings.
During this ceremony, the Sikh priest recites Ardas to bless the couple.

Chunni ceremony or the wedding veil:
The groomâ€'s family visits the brideâ€'s home after the engagement ceremony. In this ceremony, the family of the bride only invites close relatives and friends. The groomâ€'s mother and aunts gift the bride a phulkari (traditional embroidery of Punjab) dupatta. During the chunni ceremony, the mother of the groom applies mehendi or henna on the palms of the bride. **End Summary** Topics: Jeevansathi.com matrimony matrimonial matrimonials matrimony services online matrimonials Indian marriage match making matchmaking matchmaker
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India"'s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online Sikh matrimonial classified services.
Significance of Kundlis in Indian marriages

Kundli, an Indian (vedic) astrological chart, plots the positions of 9 planets across a number of houses (representing the solar system) in a graphical representation. The position of the planets in a Kundli is based on the exact time of one's birth.

In Indian culture, it is widely believed and accepted that from these astrological charts the characteristics and traits of a person can be recognized and their fate is predicted. For this particular reason, kundli charts are used to decide whether a couple is suitable to tie the knot or not. In Indian matrimony, before a marriage proposal is made, kundli matching is done to identify whether the marriage will be successful or not.

Significance of kundli charts in Indian marriages and consequence of being manglik:

One can determine a number of factors from the charts, such as wealth, education, successfulness, and even children. However, Kundli can also be used to find out negative traits of individuals.

The Manglik Dosha is considered as the most infamous trait. This situation occurs as a result of the planet Mars falling in either the 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th houses on the Kundli chart. **End Summary** Topics: Jeevansathi.com matrimony matrimonial matrimonials matrimony services online matrimonials Indian marriage match making matchmaking matchmaker
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India"'s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online Indian matrimonial classified services.
Rituals of Gujarati Weddings

Gujarat, a state of rich culture, reflects Indian heritage beautifully because of its customs, rituals and traditions.
And when it comes to Gujarati weddings, Gujaratis celebrate all the rituals extravagantly.

In Gujarat, the rituals of a wedding symbolize many aspects of a married life. They serve as guidelines to the soon-to-be couple on how to lead a blissful married life.

Gujarati Matrimony:

Gujaratis, mainly, prefer making matches of their sons and daughters within their community. Just like other Indian communities, the parents of the girl start looking for a groom as soon as she grows up.

Costumes to be worn in a Gujarati wedding:

Bridal wear:
Saree is the most common bridal wear for the Gujarati brides. They wear saree in a very different style during the wedding occasion. Saree is mainly of red color as it is considered being the most auspicious colour for the occasion. Nowadays, designer lehengas are also popular.

Groom wear:
Usually, the Gujarati bridegrooms wear traditional Kurta and dhoti. These days, designer and formal suits or kurta pajamas have also become a popular choice. **End Summary** Topics: Jeevansathi.com matrimony matrimonial matrimonials matrimony services online matrimonials Indian marriage match making matchmaking matchmaker
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India"'s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online Gujrati matrimonial classified services.
Tips To Lead a Happy Married Life

The most important tip is to be independent.

Just because you are married to some, does not mean that you will completely become dependent on your life partner. At times, you tend to forget about how different you two are, because you've been living together for so long in this matrimony tie. Don't ever forget that you are a different human being and unique in your own way that’s why your life partner got attracted to you at first place. Try to take on some different interest and encourage your husband / wife to do so as well.

Try to control your anger if your partner is also angry

Usually, when you're angry, you don’t want to hear nothing else and you don't really care about anything else. If you feel that both you and your partner are angry, try to you’re your spouse some space. The best thing to do is to calm down. Be receptive to each other's ups and downs. Always talk through the problem and listen to each other. Just abandon the whole world rather than abandoning each other. Other very important thing, don’t sleep till the time the argument is not resolved. **End Summary** Topics:
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India"'s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online Indian matrimonial classified services.

Muslim weddings are simple and beautiful. They tie a man and a woman into a virtuous knot that marks a journey of happiness and togetherness in their lives. Here’s how Muslims celebrate their weddings:

Mehndi
Muslim weddings begin with the most beautiful wedding ceremony, called the Mehndi. This ceremony is organised at the bride’s home either on the eve of the wedding ceremony or just a couple of days before it. The friends and sisters of bride smear her with turmeric paste to bring out the glow in her skin. After that, a relative or a mehndiwali applies mehndi on the hands and feet of the bride. The ceremony of Mehndi has a lot of festival feeling to it. According to customs involved with a Muslim wedding, the Muslim bride is not supposed to move out of the house for the next few days till the time her marriage does not take place.

Baraat
The next day or one or two days after the Mehndi ceremony, the wedding takes place. On this occasion, the groom enters the venue along with his Baraat. The entry of the groom is marked with a band of musicians who strike some traditional musical notes. **End Summary** Topics: Jeevansathi.com matrimony matrimonial matrimonials matrimony services online matrimonials Indian marriage match making matchmaking matchmaker
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India"'s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online Indian matrimonial classified services.
All about knowing your life partner

One of the most beautiful secrets of a successful matrimony is knowing and understanding your life partner completely. Once you decide the one you are going to marry, it is important to know more about that person. The more you know about your spouse, the more you can understand and love him / her. In fact, these days, both the prospective bride and groom are most excited and curious about knowing each other. That’s why, the trend of meting and talking quite often after getting engaged has become quite prevalent nowadays.

Indeed, this time gives the opportunity to ask questions about each other, know more about the family background and the match. However, the quest to know each other should not end after courtship. After the matrimonial as well, you should continue the process of knowing each other as it will keep the spice live in your marriage. Sometimes, married couples do not care about asking those silly 'whys' and 'what if' questions often brought out during courtship. **End Summary** Topics: Jeevansathi.com matrimony matrimonial matrimonials matri
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India"'s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online Indian matrimonial services .

A marriage signifies not just a union of two individuals but also the bonding of understanding, commitment, mutual love and spiritual growth. Marriage in Hindu tradition is about celebration and fun. It demands sacrifice, companionship, dedication, and surrender on the part of both the bride and groom. Each and every ritual and custom associated with a Hindu matrimonial reflects the real essence of wedding. Mangalsutra is one such symbol. It has a huge significance in Hindu weddings as well as in the lives of Hindu married women. This symbol of marriage is worn by the bride until her husband's death. Manglasutra in a way is comparable to a Western wedding ring, and is worn by an Indian married woman until her husband's death.

The groom ties the Manglasutra around the neck of the bride during the wedding.

In all Hindu weddings, one of the most sacred rituals is of tying Mangalsutra. One can decipher mangalsutra as a sacred thread or cord as 'mangal' means auspicious and 'sutra' means thread or cord. It is a black and gold beaded necklace with a gold or diamond pendant. It has different names in different states of India. **End Summary** Topics: Jeevansathi.com matrimony matrimonial matrimonials matri
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India"'s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online Indian matrimonial classified services.
What is Bridal Shower?

A bridal shower is a gift giving party organized by a bride’s friends and relatives before her wedding. This custom has originated from the United States, although the initial stories about these events have been known to originate in Brussels, Belgium around 1860.

The custom of the bridal shower is said to have emerged from earlier dowry practices when a poor woman's family might not have the money to provide a dowry for. In such a situation, friends of the would-be-bride used to come together and bring gifts that would compensate the dowry and allow her to marry the man of her choice.

A similar custom practiced in medieval England was the Bride Ale. This was a feast held before the matrimony day, at which the bride prepared beer herself and sold it to the guests at a high price.

In the United States, bridal showers originated first in urban areas in the 1890s, mainly among the upper middle classes. Around 1930s, bridal showers had begun to spread in rural America.

Etiquettes of Bridal Shower

Many different kinds of customs related to bridal shower have developed in different regions and social groups. **End Summary** Topics: Jeevansathi.com matrimony matrimonial matrimonials matri
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India"'s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online Indian matrimonial classified services.

These days in India, the concept of love-cum-arranged marriage is, rapidly, gaining popularity. And why not! This concept is a beautiful feeling. The Indian society still does not have such advanced values that they will start preferring love after marriage instead of love before marriage. There are different stages of love in a married life. In fact, love is most ubiquitous in the beginning of the marriage. Slowly and gradually, love is overtaken by various responsibilities and children, which the couple has to acknowledge.

The influence of the western culture has brought about this change in the urban cities and towns of our country. These days, young girls and boys move out for a date with the person they love. This is a hottest trend now witnessed in cities. But people living in the interiors of India are still not so familiar with this kind of concept. In villages, people still prefer arranged marriages. Even in cities, some families with orthodox mindset prefer arranged marriages over love marriages. **End Summary** Topics: Jeevansathi.com matrimony matrimonial matrimonials matri
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India"'s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online Indian matrimonial classified services.
Concept of Arranged Marriages in India

Since the time unknown, the concept of arranged marriages has been prevalent in India. Even these days, there is an overwhelming majority of Indians who have their marriages planned and executed by their parents and other respected family-members, without the assent of the bride and groom. Arranged matches or arranged marriages are made after taking into account various factors such as age, height, personal values and tastes, the backgrounds of their families (wealth, social standing) and their castes and the astrological compatibility of the prospective couples' horoscopes.
In India, the institution of marriage is considered a very significant one. Generally in arranged marriages, both the parents and the young people feel that since they were older and wiser than their progeny, they would be able to find an appropriate match for their children with more forethought than the latter. Although in India, mostly marriages are arranged, some couples are opting for love marriage in urban towns and cities. Amongst the Indians who are residing in overseas, many marriages are still arranged with the support of the parents. Even the so-called love marriages in India usually happen with the consent of parents, although their blessing may sometimes be a little reluctant. **End Summary** Topics: Jeevansathi.com matrimony matrimonial matrimonials matri
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India"'s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online Indian matrimonial classified services.
Customs of a Jain Wedding

In Jainism, the peaceful co-existence and communication of two different living beings in mutual beneficence or mutual reliance is preached. When a Jain matrimonial happens, a public announcement is made of the purpose of the soon-to-be bride and groom to live together in harmony for their entire life.

Among Jains, marriage is regarded as more or less a sophisticated affair.

Matrimony in Jains
Jin Jain community, it is strictly maintained that the boy and the girl marry within the community only and it is felt that the children thus born would also become Jains only. It is mainly the responsibility of parents to choose an eligible bride and groom for their respective children.

Jain brides are supposed to wear only sarees and just like any other Hindu wedding it is preferred that they wear the color red or any other bright color during the wedding. Jain grooms adorn the traditional Kurta Pyajama or the Dhoti Kurta.

Christian Weddings In South India

The word ‘wedding’ itself raises spirits in the minds of people. In fact, the very sound of the word ‘wedding’ gives us a joyous bump. Ever wondered what it is about weddings that enthralls and fascinates everyone. Nothing in this world is so gaily celebrated as this union of man and woman in a ceremony called wedding. Everywhere in the world, different kinds of weddings have different ceremonies, as each culture has its own bunch of traditions and customs, based on their ethic origin.
Similarly, the Christian weddings in South India is a blend of Indian and Western customs since the time Christians in India are Indians who have been converted to Christianity by the British Christian missionaries, when Britain ruled India. Therefore, the Indian Christians, while still sticking to their Indian culture have also incorporated some western customs in their weddings. This jovial mingle of Indo-Western customs reflects on the Indian Christian wedding ceremonies as well! But then, one should not mix the concept of Indian Christianity with Indian Christians with Anglo-Indians whose parentages are a mixture of both Indians and British and they just follow only the western culture and traditions. **End Summary** Topics: Jeevansathi.com matrimony matrimonial matrimonials matri
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India"'s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online Indian matrimonial classified services.

Of late, we have been hearing news of various markets being adversely affected by the slowdown. Now, the NRI groom market has been caught in the web too.

The market that was blooming till sometime back has witnessed a 20% fall in demand. But with the economic slump hitting the private sector badly, people are once again looking for ’stable’ government employees for their daughters.

During 1990s to early 2000, NRIs were considered as a prized catch and there demand was at its peak. However, the market, saw a boom around 2006-2007 for all Indians who were working outside. The main reason for this was that NRIs during that time made a lot of money and girls married them to get settled abroad, therefore making them the most prospective in the Indian marriage market. Another reason for this boom in demand was that these grooms meet the parents’ fundamental demands like religion, caste, house, job and plans after marriage etc. Their demand for NRIs became very strong in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and also people living in the metros. **End Summary** Topics: Jeevansathi.com matrimony matrimonial matrimonials matri
About the Author:
Sukhpreet Kaur writes on behalf of Jeevansathi.com , which is India"'s fastest growing matrimonial website, provides online Indian matrimonial classified services.
