Hypnotherapy Manchester What is Hypnosis

Hypnotherapy Manchester

Hypnosis is not a state of deep sleep. It does involve the induction of a trance-like condition, but while in this state of deep relaxation, the patient is actually in an enhanced state of awareness, concentrating completely on the hypnotist's voice. In this state, the premeditated mind is suppressed and the subconscious mind is revealed.
The therapist is able to suggest ideas, concepts and lifestyle adaptations to the patient, the seeds of which become firmly planted.

Exaggerated news stories, stage hypnotists and general gossip have given the illusion that you lose control in hypnosis. Really, once hypnotized, you are relaxed and also focused - furthermore able to choose to get up & walk away at any time. You choose to give your attention to the hypnotherapist, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Actually recent understanding of hypnotherapy and hypnosis completely contradicts these misconceptions on several issues. Subjects in a hypnotic trance have absolute free will. And also they're not really in a semi-sleep state as they are experience a deep inner focus and relaxation.
Hypnosis is a totally natural state of mind. **End Summary** Topics: Hypnotherapy Manchester manchester hypnotherapy hypnotherapy in Manchester hypnosis manchester
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp <a href="http://www.happyandwell.com/Hypnotherapy_Manchester.html">

The Chinese Snow Disaster

Wherever you are in the world there is likely to be snow above you. Even in summer, or over the tropics, ice crystals are found in the highest cirrus clouds as temperatures are far below freezing. It is a fact that most of the precipitation on Earth starts life as ice crystals in higher parts of the atmosphere and whether they fall as rain or snow depends on the temperature of the air that these crystals fall through before reaching the ground.

One of nature’s finest sites is a landscape covered in thick, fresh snow. Snow is common in winter over Northern Europe and North America and is permanent on some mountain tops (as well as at the poles). Mount Kilimanjaro is located just 3 degrees south of the equator but is still high enough to maintain a permanent snow cap.

Snowflakes form when ice crystals stick to one another. The largest snowflakes develop between 0 degrees C and -5 degrees C, rather than much colder conditions. At these warmer temperatures the snow can contain more moisture and hence have bigger flakes. **End Summary** Topics: snow blizzard avalanche china extreme weather snow formation
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"href="http://www.agloriousfuture.com">World Weather</A> .
Exploding Challenger and The Polar Surge

The polar front is an area on the earth located at approximately 60 degrees north and south where warm air circulating from the tropics meets cold air plunging from the poles. The difference in temperature of these masses of air causes the warm air to rise and most of this moves back towards the equator and sinks at around 30 degrees north and south, adding to the high pressure systems at these latitudes.

The rest of the air that rises at the polar front continues to move towards the poles and as it cools it sinks and returns back towards 60 degrees north and south. However these flows of air do not move in a direct north-south route. They are altered by the rotation of the earth. This rotation will cause any freely moving object to appear to move to the right of the direction of motion in the northern hemisphere and to the left in the southern. This is known as the Coriolis Effect and explains why winds travel clockwise around high pressure systems in the northern hemisphere and anti-clockwise in the southern, with low pressure winds travelling in the opposite direction. **End Summary** Topics: polar front polar surge challenger arctic jet stream extreme weather world weather
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"href="http://www.agloriousfuture.com">World Weather</A> .
Crystal Healing

Crystals will create harmony wherever they are. For instance, if you have a child that can’t sleep at night or wakes from nightmares then try placing a crystal under their bed. Children are very receptive to crystals and their power, and often pick one up and rub it over their stomach or head if hurting - they even instinctively use a clockwise movement…if there is a crystal handy!

If someone is sick maybe place a crystal in the room with them.
Try placing crystals around your garden plants or in potted plants & see how much more beautiful and bright they bloom and grow. To specifically energise a garden try placing a crystal in each corner and another in the centre. This creates a type of energy similar to pyramid energy.

After you’ve recharged your crystal in water pour the water over your houseplants or even give it to your pets to drink. As an experiment put a bowl of uncharged water out for your dog and one that is charged - after time the dog will ‘choose’ to drink the charged water.
To meditate with a crystal hold it in your left hand. **End Summary** Topics: crystal therapy crystal meaning crystal properties crystals crystal healing
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"href="http://www.happyandwell.com">Hypnosis</A> .
Cirrocumulus Clouds The Best Sunsets

Cirrocumulus clouds are found worldwide at high altitudes, typically above 16,500 feet. Just like cirrostratus, cirrocumulus occurs when a large area of moist air at these high altitudes reaches saturation and freezes. Because of this cirrocumulus clouds consist entirely of ice crystals.

Rarely does cirrocumulus dominate the sky, but when it does it can produce spectacular sunsets as the sunlight reflects off the clouds from low on the horizon. For this reason cirrocumulus is often considered the most attractive of cloud types, often forming spectacular patterns stretching for hundreds of miles across the sky.
A particularly dramatic form is cirrocumulus undulates, appearing as fine ripples stretching across the sky. These ripples are generated by high level atmospheric waves, caused by wind sheer.

Cirrocumulus clouds appear as white patches or spherical masses, known as elements. These elements can occur in undulating rows and patterns, like small ripples, often resembling the small ripples found on a sandy beach.

The main difference between cirrocumulus and altocumulus is the small size of the individual clouds, and the great height at which they form. **End Summary** Topics: Cirrocumulus Clouds Cirrocumulus Cirrocumulus Cloud types of clouds cloud types
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on the climate.
Stratocumulus clouds Low Lumpy and Dull

Stratocumulus clouds are one of the most common worldwide clouds and are an excellent indicator of moisture content in the lower atmosphere. Stratocumulus is a low cloud, with its base usually below 7000 ft. It forms patches, sheets or extensive layers of grey and white cloud and has a ragged appearance along its upper surface but may have a flat, well-defined base. Stratocumulus clouds tend to form in fairly shallow layers which can be several hundred miles wide.

Stratocumulus clouds from when rising air (lifted by a frontal system or a land mass) meets a layer of warm air and is flattened against its underside. As it is lifted the moisture in the air condenses and produces the Stratocumulus clouds.
In winter stratocumulus clouds produce a cloudy, overcast sky that can last for many days, but in summer the clouds tend to burn off with the heat of the day. As with stratus clouds, stratocumulus can produce light drizzle or snow grains in cold temperatures, but generally precipitation is very limited.

Stratocumulus will often give a sheet of almost complete cloud cover. **End Summary** Topics: Stratocumulus clouds Stratocumulus cloud Stratocumulus clouds types of clouds cloud types
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"

Altostratus Clouds

Altostratus Clouds are located worldwide, but are more common in mid latitudes. These clouds are found in the mid levels of the atmosphere and can be just a thin veil ranging to a layer 2,000-3,000m thick. Generally Altostratus will contain ice crystals near the top and water crystals lower down. They are always a sign of a significant amount of moisture being held in those layers and cover a very large area, sometimes over thousands of square miles. Generally it is too thick, but when it is thin the Sun and Moon may be visible through Altostratus.

Altostratus Clouds form at warm fronts and is the result of condensation when warm moist is lifted above cooler air. When it is sufficiently thick Altostratus can produce rain or snow over a very large area.

When stratus cloud covers the entire sky it can be difficult to determine whether it is low level or mid level cloud. **End Summary** Topics: altostratus clouds altostratus types of cloud clouds stratus stratus clouds
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on the climate.
Black Ops Hypnosis Why the fuss

The technique employs both verbal and non-verbal means of communication to alter and influence behaviour. Non verbal techniques can include body language, gestures and subliminal silent cues. Verbal techniques include mind altering words, language patterns and tone of voice. These techniques are commonly known as pacing and leading in the hypnotherapy world. Pacing and leading is a means to bypass the critical factor (the conscious analytical part of your mind). In bypassing the critical factor the subconscious mind more readily accepts external data to be the truth.

Typically, the hypnotist firstly establishes a rapport with the subject in order to enable them to be open to any hypnotic suggestions that might follow. Rapport is a feeling of connection and trust. One means of establishing rapport would be to match the speech, gestures, tone and breathing patterns of the other person. This would have the effect of putting their unconscious mind at ease.

When rapport has been created the hypnotist can begin to induce a trance which would bypass the subject's conscious mind and critical faculties. He could then begin to introduce suggestions to the subject. **End Summary** Topics: black ops hypnosis blackops hypnosis conversational hypnosis covert hypnosis
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"

7 Day Weather Forecast Is It Worth The Paper Its Written On

Weather forecasting is becoming more accurate. I don’t think there is much doubt about that. With the introduction of ever more sophisticated technology, both computerised and satellite, any weather professional can be more confident than ever about his ability to forecast…but only to a point.

Thanks to the chaotic nature of our climate and atmosphere a long range forecast is still not something you would bet your house on. Most weather forecasts are accurate to within two or three days, but then the percentages drop away sharply.

As the weather is global in nature it makes sense that global cooperation is required to help the forecasters. Most countries now have some form of national weather service with a remit to produce accurate forecasts for a couple of days ahead. However the measurements and forecasts observed in every county give an important contribution to the worldwide network and allow more data to be fed into the computer models.

There are three national superpowers that are particularly involved in global forecasting. **End Summary** Topics: 7 day weather world weather weather forecasting 7 day weather forecast forecast weather
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"

World Weather Feel the Weight on Your Shoulders

The weight of air resting on a given area of the Earth's surface is known as air pressure. Air pressure (or atmospheric pressure) is always greatest at sea level, where the air is at its most dense. Therefore at the top of a mountain the air is less dense and therefore the pressure is lower.
The air is composed of billions of tiny particles that are constantly moving in all directions, bouncing off whatever they encounter. These collisions constitute what is known as air pressure. The more collisions occurring within a certain area then the greater the air pressure will be.
We are completely unaware of this, but the air is constantly exerting pressure on us, on average this is 14 ¾ pounds per square inch. (1 kg per sq cm ) . Air molecules are naturally drawn towards the earth by gravity, and as a consequence the density of the air is greater near the surface of the earth. Therefore the number of molecules in a given area, the air pressure, decreases with altitude. These molecules are in constant motion and this prevents them from settling at ground level. **End Summary** Topics: Air pressure atmospheric pressure barometer climate weather
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"

Tornado Facts

Tornado Fact 1. The deadliest ever tornado was the 'Tri-State' tornado that passed through Missouri, Illinois and Indiana on March 18th 1925. During its 3½ hour life this tornado killed 695 people along its 219 mile path.

Tornado Fact 2. Tornadoes are measured and rated using the Fujita scale.

Tornado Fact 3. Tornadoes tend to occur in mid-latitudes, and as they are restricted to land masses this means mainly in the northern hemisphere.

Tornado Fact 4. Those over the US tend to be the most violent as the North American continent has a combination of warm, moist Gulf air from the south colliding with cold air travelling down from the north west, producing ideal tornado forming conditions.

Tornado Fact 5. On some days up to 20 tornadoes may be spotted in Tornado Alley- the flat country of the mid-west stretching from Texas through to Oklahoma and Kansas.

Tornado Fact 6. A wind speed of 280mph was ascribed to a tornado that hit Texas in April 1958

Tornado Fact 7. The average life-span of a tornado is approximately 15 minutes. **End Summary** Topics: tornado tornado facts tornado fact tornadoes severe weather extreme weather weather storms t
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"

The Wild Weather Race That So Nearly Became A Tragedy

This weekend in the Lake District 1,700 fell runners, out of a total of 2,500 became stranded in atrocious weather conditions. Fortunately, eventually, every single one of them was either rescued or returned safely of their own accord, but the recriminations are flying around the organisersâ€' ears as the police had advised them to call off the event. Weather forecasters were predicting winds of up to 100mph and torrential rain, and they were right on both counts. In some parts of the Lake District up to 12 inches of rain fell in just a few days from last Thursday.

Fell runners are a hardy bunch mind you, and they were well equipped and experienced, and this in itself helped to prevent a certain tragedy. The race is a 2 day event. On day one you run the equivalent of a marathon distance over the mountains, and on day two you do exactly the same! Overnight you camp out, and this was the key to the runners being so well equipped. At least they werenâ€'t trapped in the open and exposed to the elements. **End Summary** Topics: fell running world weather severe weather lake district extreme weather weather british weathe
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on the weather.
Does Covert Hypnosis Exist

The term 'hypnosis' is misleading. Hypnosis is derived from a Greek root word meaning sleep and is as much related to sleep as I am to George Bush. When in the hypnotic state you are not asleep, far from it, often your senses become sharpened and you have a deeper concentration and inward focus. The hypnotic state is more frequently referred to as a 'trance' and is a state we all enter into many times a day.

When reading a book or watching a film you suspend belief and really live the experience. At the same time you may be so involved, and so focussed on the film that someone could be having a conversation with you and you don't even notice (or if you are hen-pecked you pretend not to notice.)

Trance is normal, relaxing, wonderful and very useful. With a Hypnotherapist you are guided into the trance in order to resolve your physical or mental issue, and you have given the Hypnotherapist your full cooperation to proceed. The trance you slip in and out of many times daily is a very personal state. **End Summary** Topics: conversational hypnosis covert hypnosis hypnosis hypnotherapy hypnotism covert hypnotism
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"

It's A Bit Early For A Freeze, Isn't it?

The passage of a Canadian cold front will introduce a touch of Autumn to the northeastern US. Cool and breezy weather conditions will prevail as the heat and humidity is replaced by this polar air.

An advancing cold front from the north is combining with a polar high pressure system and will bring on the first frost and freeze of the season for a large part of the Northeast. A freeze advisory is already in effect from northern Pennsylvania to Upstate New York and Northern New England. Some records are likely to be broken as some locations will be getting unseasonably cold.

The combination of the cold air, calm winds and clear skies will allow temperatures to plunge to freezing point and below. After 3 weeks of intense tropical activity the weather has settled down over large parts of the US and northern Europe. Even Britain, which has had a succession of depressions crossing for a large part of the summer, is now enjoying the calming influence of a giant Scandinavian high. **End Summary** Topics: la nina frost world weather weather freeze el nino pacific climate climate change
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"

Weather And Business - A Great Day For Selling

Okay, so it's hot and you want an ice-cream. That seems obvious, but what is less obvious is the breakdown of different ice-cream types sold in differing weather. For instance in moderate warmth a soft ice-cream in a cone is sold more. However if it starts to get really hot people tend to look for something more thirst quenching such as an ice lolly, which is effectively a drink on a stick.

Lager has a threshold of 73 degrees Fahrenheit, when the temperatures reach this level sales of Lager start to go through the roof. Sausages also sell well in hot weather due to the abundance these days of the back garden barbecue. Cold weather tends to increase the sale of meat and potatoes, along with soups and hot chocolate.

The Indian monsoon brings a huge rise in the sale of Umbrellas, and T-shirts and shorts are purchased en masse in Mediterranean resorts. As temperatures drop sharply on a cold January evening millions of householders click the thermostat and get the heating on, adding to the toll on the gas and electricity stations scattered around the country. **End Summary** Topics: weather farming weather extreme weather world weather climate jet stream
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"

Global Warming - Survive And Thrive

A region's climate may alter over time becoming hotter, cooler, drier or wetter. Natural selection will determine the organisms with characteristics appropriate to the new climate. Over hundreds and thousands of generations constant minute changes will eventually lead to a new species that can survive and thrive in the altered climate.

The success or failure of an organism is reliant upon its ability to reproduce young that mature to produce more young. Only the young with the greatest survival traits for any given habitat will endure. These surviving young will transfer their adaptive characteristics to the subsequent generations. This process is known as natural selection.

If climatic or environmental changes occur too abruptly some species may not be able to adapt quickly enough and can become extinct. This has become a large problem in recent times with human altered environments changing so rapidly that there has been an ominous rise in the extinction rate.

Birds and mammals are warm-blooded (endothermic). This means they can keep their body at a fairly constant, warm temperature by processing body fat and carbohydrates. **End Summary** Topics: extinction global warming climate change natural selection weather little ice age greenland vikings
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"

Hurricane Ike – Give the Caribbean a Break

The northern coast of Cuba has now been hit by Ike and once again a mass evacuation has been implemented. Wind speeds in excess of 120 mph are battering the area with storm surge and torrential rain causing widespread flooding. Nearly 50 people are reported dead on Haiti and Hurricane Ike has destroyed 80% of all homes on the main Turks and Caicos Islands (as quoted by the Turks and Caicos Prime Minister).

Hurricanes are formed when a strong cluster of thunderstorms drift into warm ocean water. They are known as Hurricanes in the Atlantic and eastern Pacific, and Typhoons in the western Pacific. In the Bay of Bengal and Indian oceans they are known as Cyclones. (Whatever their name, they are all hugely destructive and damaging). As the cluster of storms drift over the warm ocean they combine to provide a powerful updraft of warm air, creating low pressure at the surface.

The storm now starts to spin as trade winds blow from opposing directions and the continuing rising warm air decreases pressure at higher altitudes. **End Summary** Topics: hurricane ike ike hurricanes storm severe weather how a hurricane forms cuba
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on the weather.
Lightning - 5 Times Hotter Than The Surface of The Sun

Ever since Benjamin Franklin flew his kite and nearly blew himself up with the resultant lightning strike, we have been attempting to discover exactly how lightning works. A discharge of lightning is probably one of the most impressive displays in the atmosphere, yet surprisingly, despite years of study, the exact process is still shrouded in some mystery.

Lightning results from the build up of opposite electrical charges within a cloud. Ice crystals which form in the upper reaches of a cloud are generally positively charged, and water droplets which sink to the lower part of the cloud, are usually negatively charged. It appears that the ice crystals are positively charged as a result of collisions, within the maelstrom of a thunderstorm, with warmer water droplets. When the warmer droplet collides with an ice crystal it passes on its positive charge, and consequently the water droplet is now negatively charged.

Okay, so, as the storm now tracks across the land it is positively charged in its upper reaches and negatively charged in its lower portions. Because opposites charges attract a positive charge now builds up on the surface of the land directly below the storm. **End Summary** Topics: lightning thunder severe weather thunderstorm extreme weather storms world weather
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on the weather.
The Explosion of Hurricane Gustav

Hurricane Gustav formed on the 25th August and has raced across the Atlantic and exploded from a tropical storm to a category 4 hurricane in just 12 hours.

Saffir-Simpson Hurricane categories:

Cat 1: Winds 74-95mph, storm surge 4-5ft
Cat 2: Winds 96-110mph, storm surge 6-8ft
Cat 3: Winds 111-130mph, storm surge 9-12ft
Cat 4: Winds 131-155mph, storm surge 13-18ft
Cat 5: Winds over 155mph, storm surge over 18ft

Gustav claimed 80 lives even before it had reached Cuba, having tracked across Haiti, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. The storm struck Cuba’s mainland at Pinar Del Rio with wind speeds of almost 150mph. Although Gustav naturally weakened over the Cuban mainland it is expected to intensify over the Gulf of Mexico as it moves towards the US mainland. Hurricanes feed off the warm ocean and that is why so many storms intensify as they pass over the warm waters of the Gulf.

Currently Gustav’s projected path is across the oil rich Gulf and making landfall somewhere along the Louisiana coast on Monday, sparking a mass evacuation as the memories of Katrina in 2005 are still very fresh. **End Summary** Topics: hurricane gustav gustav hurricanes storms weather severe weather
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on the weather.
Weather Gods And Ancient Meteorology

The first meteorologists were the priests and shamans of early civilisations. They were tasked with appeasing the gods who, it was believed, controlled the climate and all natural phenomena. This was no mean feat as you can imagine, and sometimes their very lives depended upon favourable weather.

By 3500 BC Egyptian communities were well established along the Nile where the weather was warm and sunny, and water was abundant. However as this early cradle of civilisation was totally dependent on the Nile for its prosperity the Egyptians tried to use the movement of the stars as a guide to the annual rise and fall of the Nile and to the extent of its flooding.

This dependence on the Nile led to the belief in two powerful gods. Osiris and Ra (or Re). Osiris was considered the ruler of the dead and the source of fertility to the living, controlling the sprouting of vegetation and the flooding of the river Nile. Ra was the sun god who controlled the movement of heavenly bodies, travelling across the sky each day in his solar boat.

Other early civilisations emerging at that time also depended on the weather. **End Summary** Topics: Weather gods thor zeus hades Poseidon history of weather early meteorology meteorology sun god weather god
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on the weather.
Wireless Weather Stations - The New Age of Weather Forecasting

Mankind has always had a fascination with the climate and its many vagaries and this fascination has now been brought into our homes. with the popularity of the wireless weather station.
These nifty little gadgets keep track of temperature, air pressure, humidity, wind speed and direction, rainfall and even rainfall rate! And they also come with an inbuilt severe weather alarm to warn you of forthcoming storms. These alarms work on the principle that a sudden storm is preceded by a rapid drop in air pressure. Simple but clever. My alarm is normally triggered maybe once or twice a year, but if you live in an area renown for extreme weather a wireless weather station may prove to be very handy indeed.

More and more these stations are being designed to be aesthetically pleasing. The clinical electronic modern look can be replaced by a more retro design for the sentimental amongst us, but without losing any of the modern technology and functionality of course.

Wireless weather stations are ideal for use in the the office, looking far classier (in my opinion) than the desktop executive toys of the 80's and 90's. Professional weather stations have PC connections and related software. **End Summary** Topics: wireless weather stations wireless weather measure the weather weather instruments wireless weather instruments
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on the weather.
Hurricane Vince - The Worlds Most Unusual Storm

Vince was the 12th named hurricane of a very busy season that spawned hurricanes Rita and Katrina. Vince formed over part of the Atlantic ocean that was cooler than 24 °C (75 °F), compared to the temperature of 26.5 °C (80 °F) usually required for the development of a tropical storm.

It became a storm near the coast of Madeira on October 9th and was named 'Vince' soon after. The storm's eye quickly formed into the typical eye of a hurricane and measured 15 miles in diameter. Vince then made slow progress towards the Iberian peninsular on a gentle north eastwards track. As it ventured into ever cooler waters this system began to lose its strength before making landfall at Huelva in Spain on October 11th.

Once over land the storm dropped no more than 86 millimetres of rain and had wind speeds of around 35-40 mph. For those of you used to the huge hurricanes that crash through the Gulf of Mexico every year you must be wondering what all the fuss is about. **End Summary** Topics: hurricanes hurricane vince tropical storm tropical cyclone severe weather world weather extreme weather
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"

Wireless Thermometers – Mourning Two Pins And A Magnet

I love all things wireless. Cables and wires have always found a way to get wrapped up between my feet. I broke my first thermometer sometime around the beginning of the 90’s, in Crossgates, Leeds. It was winter and the weather forecast was predicting a particularly cold night. Being the weather buff/geek that I am I decided to trail the outdoor thermometer cable as far out of the window as I could, to record the overnight minimum. A simple enough exercise except I had to leave the window open so as to not trap the cable. Unfortunately I woke up freezing in the small hours and, in a sleep induced haze, pulled the window tight shut, severing the wire sufficiently for the outdoor function to never work again.

This started a pattern of tripping, kicking and general weather station abuse until the wireless phenomenon came to my rescue. Suddenly the black cables reaching from the mantelpiece across the cream wall and into the back garden were a thing of the past. Wireless thermometers or weather stations allowed me to close all windows on a cold night if I so wished and still get an accurate overnight temperature. **End Summary** Topics: wireless thermometer thermometer indoor outdoor thermometer wireless indoor outdoor thermometer weather world weather
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on the <A target="_new"

Another Striking Sign of Global Warming

Giant sheets of ice measuring almost seven square miles, which is 20 square kilometres , have come adrift of the largest ice shelf in the Canadian Arctic. This is consistent with climatic warming models and as a consequence scientists warn that more could follow later this year as the summer wears on.

The ice broke away from the ice shelf on Ward Hunt Island in one of the more remote parts of northern Canada. The dislodged ice sheets have formed two floating ice islands measuring roughly 1.9 and 5.4 square miles each.

In recent decades the Arctic temperatures have risen at a greater rate than the global average which has exacerbated the problems arising in these polar regions as a result of climate change. This was the largest break of ice since the Ayles ice shelf broke away in 2005, resulting in a 25 square mile floating ice island.

The Ward Hunt shelf, measuring around 155 square miles, is one of five lying along Ellesmere island in the northern Arctic. **End Summary** Topics: global warming ward hunt ice sheet ice shelf arctic arctic ice world weather canadian arctic climate change
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"

Let It Rain, But Not On The Olympics

We have been trying to alter the weather for years! American Indians tried to produce rain in times of need, and for many centuries it was believed that the people of Finland were able to control the weather. The Vikings refused to take Finnish sailors on their raids for fear that they would whip up an ocean storm. And Finns were often refused passage on ships into the 20th Century for these same superstitious reasons.

Probably the earliest and most widely used method of weather control is the lightning conductor (or lightning rod for my American friends). These conductors are usually made of copper or aluminium and are placed strategically on the high points of trees, buildings and other structures in a network to channel possible lightning strikes safely to the earth. And very successful they have been too.

In the 1950's Wilhelm Reich attempted to influence streams of cosmic rays with a device known as a 'Cloudbuster' which, he felt, would cause rain and thus dissipate the clouds. And any fans of Kate Bush out there will know that this inspired her hit 'Cloudbusting'

A common technique for inducing rain is 'Cloud Seeding'. **End Summary** Topics: weather control cloud seeding cloudbusting olympic weather world weather weather control the weather stormfury cloudbuster silver iodide
About the Author:
Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on <A target="_new"
