The State Flowers of the United States

I first heard of the Dogwood in a Michael Douglas movie as he inquired what the state flower was. Apparently it was only an allusion the Dogwood is the state flower of North Carolina. It’s grows thickly across the state but still fought against the Goldenrod, the flame azalea and can you believe, the Venus Flytrap?

As previously mentioned, there are apparently many types of Roses. North Dakota chose another wild variety, Rosa blanda or Rosa arkansana otherwise known as Wild Prairie Rose, as the State’s choice way back in 1907.

Ohio’s story is quite special. Home to former US President William McKinley, he began to wear the Scarlett Carnation in his lapel during his election to the house of Representatives which eventually led him all the way to the White House. By 1904, this was enacted in Memoriam to the man.

Oklahoma boasts of another special instance as it is actually represented by three flowers: a floral emblem, state wild flower and the state flower. These are the Mistletoe, Indian Blanket and lastly, the Hybrid Tea Rose - also called the Oklahoma Rose. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flowers Philippines Delivery</a> .
His and Hers, Choosing a Wedding Ring

Karat vs. Carat. Based on www.essortment.com , the Karat is a measurement unit of the amount of gold used in an item while the Carat measures the weight of a gemstone. Both words are drawn from “carob” which is actually a Mediterranean type of tree that produces seeds or beans that always have the same size and weight. Upon noticing the reliability of this trait, the ancients started using the seeds to measure precious metals and stones and eventually to balance their scales for any other items.

Gold is a precious metal, but is very soft in its pure form. To strengthen it when used in jewelry it then has to be mixed with other metals to form an alloy. http://gilletts.com.au lists the standard metals in jewelry making as titanium, silver, platinum, stainless steel, rhodium and palladium.

Silver, is also a popular option according to http://www.metalsmiths.com/wedding.html but is also soft in its pure form, but just like gold you have to watch out for proportions of metals used in a ring as it will not only determine the durability of a ring, but its color and luster as well. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flower Shop Philippines</a> .
Learning about the State Flowers of America

Kansas was very direct with its choice. The Native Sunflower made Kansas known to the world as the Sunflower State. It is described in legislature that it is a rich historical symbol of its frontier past and its golden days ahead.

The Goldenrod is mentioned many times in this article because it is one of the most common American wildflowers. Kentucky alone has 30 varieties and is not particular to which variety it defines of its official choice. Pat title holders were the Blue Grass and the Trumpet Vine (Unofficially).

Louisiana enjoys the lush blossom of the Magnolia state-wide and was made official flower over a hundred years ago in 1900. For a time, Iris lovers debated for the top spot, only prevailing in having it declared as the State Wildflower in 1990.

Referring back to the 1983 World Exposition, a Women’s Congress parlayed the idea of creating a garland of flowers using all the state flowers – which led to the inspiration of many great states – including Maine. This put its natives into action and through a massive campaign led to the concurrence that made the Pine Cone and Tassel its representative for the “National Garland of Flowers. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flower Shop Philippines</a> .
Online Safety Basics

Before you jump into that big blue ocean of the World Wide Web there are a few signs you should take notice of to steer away from sharks and other creatures that co-inhabit the Internet. This is not a scare tactic, you simply have to accept the practical truth these “sharks” do lurk out there and that anybody can be a victim.

These lurkers are actually very intelligent people. They can gather insurmountable amounts of personal data, which are strewn all over the web and then compile and refocus it to be a marketing campaign tool = junk mail or much worse. Face it, there is more than a 90% chance that if you are a surfing online denizen, that you have already posted your name, address, perhaps even phone number on a social networking site. With the help of a good designer, programmer and copywriter, these sharks can lure a good number of people just like you; and with great aplomb “bait” you to give up even more personal matters that can lead to social or financial disaster.

A good example would be flower delivery services. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Florist Philippines</a> .
The Importance of the Engagement Rings

The use of rings as adornment is first credited to the Egyptians. Ancient art and oral history depicts the first use rings in Egyptian weddings. To this day these are worn on the second to the last finger of the left hand as it is believed that this has the Vena Amoris or the “Vein of love”. http://ezinearticles.com/?The-History-of-Engagement-Rings-and-Wedding-Bands&id=24579 sites this is the romantic and legendary vein that is connected straight to and from the heart. So, as two people wear these rings in matrimony, they it is believed they are bonded at the heart.

The ancient Greek and Romans were agreeable to placing these rings at that particular finger, but with them these rings were not always made with precious metals or jewels specially when it came to engagement rings. They were not very formal about this and its use was not a promise for a marriage but more of a lasting friendship. To even further diffuse the romantic side of things, the Romans used to carve key symbols on these rings. Signifying that these were the keys that gave the woman the right to half the man’s wealth. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flower Delivery Philippines</a> .
National/State Flowers of America (Part 2)

Delaware was also known as the “Peach State” since it was the biggest Peach supplier in the 1870’s. A strong movement nominated the common Goldenrod, (also Alabama’s first choice) as its representative. But how could this flower represent the Peach State? With reason winning over the day, due recognition was given the Peach tree and soon made the Peach Blossom the Floral Emblem and eventually the State Flower by 1953.

Early Spanish settlers in Florida referred to the state of the “Land of Flowers.” There seemingly was a large pool of blooming choices. But it might be reasoned out that just like Delaware, which honored its prevalent industry, perhaps the Floridians also thought it best to have the Orange Blossom as its final choice.

Georgia’s Floral Emblem is the Cherokee Rose. Apparently there are many kinds and varieties of roses. This was referred to as indigenous to its soil even though its origin was traced back to China.

Sun-kissed Hawaii is well known for the imagery of the Native Yellow Hibiscus to represent the state. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Philippine Flower Delivery</a> .

More than fourscore and seven years ago as the American founding fathers bound together their great states, visual ideas and symbolisms had to be agreed upon to properly represent the country as a whole. Bit by bit lawmakers beefed up their pride scale and pass these embellishments into law.

Presently, the national flower of America is the genus Rosa or more commonly known as the Rose.

As most nations developed more cultural icons containing national, state or regional pride came into meaning. Logically, most of these icons are the items that a place or locality is best known for. According to http://www.50states.com/oregon.htm, the state flag of Oregon uses a beaver on its reverse side; Iowa uses a bald eagle and California uses a Grizzly Bear.

Montana uses the pick, shovel and plow, while a Shield is used by New Jersey. Massachusetts uses an American Indian while Alaska uses the color blue to symbolize nature along with their wildflowers. But enough about flags.

What this article discusses are the state flowers or floral emblems that represents the majority of the US states and the official national flower.

The majority of the research material for this article was taken from www.netstate. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Florists Roses Gifts
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flowers Philippines Delivery</a> .
Basics of Arranging a Bouquet

The first step to approach bouquet arrangement is, in believing that this can be done by either man or woman. This task is definitely not gender specific. There are many kinds of flowers, fillers, colors, and covering materials to choose from in building a bouquet, so just like any other skill, all it requires is some practice.

Floristry or floral arrangements is a large topic, so our focus will only be in the basics of creation of acceptable floral bouquets. The topic itself of bouquets is mostly associated with weddings. It is the primary icon that is top of mind in western society. Being the best showcase for most styles of bouquets, it would be best to mention the commonly used types of bouquets according to http://weddings.weddingchannel.com/wedding-planning-ideas/wedding-flowers/qa/what-are-the-different-bouquet-styles.aspx, which are the following:

Arm or Presentation Bouquet: Also commonly used in pageants, awards and competitions usually using long stemmed flowers such as roses and calla lilies, and is arranged to be “cradled” by the arm. Imagine it running through an arm’s length, leaning perpendicularly chest high on the individual while still allowing a free hand for a congratulatory shake. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Florists Roses Gifts
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flower Shop Philippines</a> .
Mother’s Day: How it all Began

Her-story begins in Greek myth and lore during its golden days. This was the time as the story tells the great titan Cronus and his wife Rhea ruled the universe. Their union birthed into the inhabitants of Mt. Olympus and therefore she is referred to as the mother of all Olympians. The Greeks honored her in lavish ancient festivals every year in spring, which is also the time when bloom of all harvests on the earth begins anew.

In 250 BC, the Romans also fêted their mother goddess and this 3 day celebration was called Hilaria or the Ides of March.

As Christianity spread throughout the European lands, this again blended to celebrate the Mother Church. Alluding to the influence as the spiritual power as the giver of life and protector from harm. Some historians theorized that this actually was an adapted from the ancient traditions so instead of having a festival a Church visit became a norm on this day.

In the 1600’s, the early Christians established this day to give honor and praise to the venerable Mother Mary, the mother of Christ. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Florists Roses Gifts
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flowers Philippines</a> .
The Greeting Card: An Essential part of a Gift

A picture may paint a thousand words, but when combined with the right message makes the medium more potent. Research evidence shows that the ancient Egyptians on papyrus scrolls first sent glad tidings. The Chinese also were historically credited with such devices for exchanging greetings during New Year celebrations. By the 1400’s the German also started this habit but with the use of woodcuts while the rest of Europe used handmade paper.

As Christianization spread all throughout Europe, this practice soon became common for Christmas as well. By 1843, Sir Henry Cole hired an artist to design a holiday card to gift to his friends and relatives. At this point Greeting Cards were still hand painted and quite expensive to produce.

Popularity of these cards snowballed in the US states and established itself as a global gifting habit with the advancements in printing and the introduction of postage stamps all before 1850. Mass production began with the Valentine’s Greeting Card as popularized by the great women’s rights organizer Esther Howland in deference to the passing of her mother. She eventually sold off the rights to this technique of production and then concentrated on the age-old practice of elaborate, handmade cards. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Florists Roses Gifts
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flower Delivery Philippines</a> .

Hundreds of colors and thousands of choices. Flowers may be simply be made up of carpels and stamens but last thing in the mind of a woman in preparing for her wedding day is simple. When the budget is available, an esteemed florist is attached to the decorating army not only for the chapel and the reception area but becomes key in adorning the bridal entourage, from the flower girl and ring bearer up to the bride and groom themselves.

In nine out of ten weddings floral arrangements are table centerpieces and more often than not that these are complimentary to the bridal bouquet itself. Choosing the right flower is not always easy as its availability differs from country to country and is almost always season dependent.

During the time of the ancient Greeks and Romans, the bride and groom wore garland on their necks to symbolize new life, hope and fertility. Women on the other hand, also carried bouquets but both of these were actually made not of flowers but of aromatic bunches of herbs and spices to ward off evil spirits. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Send Gifts to the Philippines</a> .
The Role of the Best Man in Weddings

In the beginning, the ancient peoples lived in small tribes and nomadic in nature. Choosing a bride from within the confines of your own tribe often became a challenging feat so borders had to be crossed. Besides the often-short supply, maybe the familiarity also bred contempt.

Choosing a bride soon meant picking from greener pastures, which oftentimes would mean selecting one from another tribe. Capturing a bride would have to be done with the threat or actual use of force and violence and rarely would this be done alone.

So the groom’s party would be filled with any number of men and the evolution of the Best man came along since all men were not created equal. The intelligent captain for such an expedition would call to action for the best fighter (or hunter) that the tribe could offer.

After her capture, the bride is also hidden from sight until the day of the wedding and the best man would also be the man charge of her safety and prevention from rescue or escape. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Philippine Flower Delivery</a> .
The Parts of a Traditional Wedding

I. Counseling

For both spiritual and practical reasons it is advised the first part of the tradition is that you contact your parish priest for counseling six to nine months before your chosen wedding date. It is now a modern tradition these couples are required to enter a retreat, called differently from parish to parish but ultimately is designed to help the engaged couple grow spiritually as they take on their new roles and establish a strong base. This is scheduled with other couples and led by Church “teachers” and other laypersons that have been assigned by the diocese for this purpose. After a successful retreat all other items pertaining to schedules, venues, flowers and the composition of the weddings participants may be pursued.

Another recent requirement for Catholic parishioners is the “Wedding Banns” which are the posting in the church foyer/bulletin board or actual announcement of the names of all engaged couples after the mass. Its purpose is to discover any impediments to the proposed marriage.

Tip: Auspicious as it may be, a big factor for agreeing on a wedding date is the actual availability of the preferred Church for the ceremony or venue for the reception. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flower Delivery Philippines</a> .
The Role of the Godparents in Weddings

The origins of the role of godparents in weddings are directly related to the practice of baptism and confirmation. By the second century AD baptisms were accepted as spiritual and social purification of infants and secondary parents or “sponsors” would enact to speak the child’s part in the acceptance of God in life. This also was the case in Confirmation as the rites of Christian passage into adulthood and so for weddings as the couple’s union binds them together as one. As religion binds families and communities together, Godparenting became a lifetime commitment with a promise to care the religious upbringing of all the children of God. The common thread among all these is that in every rite of a new beginning a hierarchy of spiritual maturity is expected and in case that the parents of the child cannot fulfill this obligation then the people who stood side by side during the parents should be able to carry the duty. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Florist Philippines</a> .

Being an online article, the first suggestion is to leverage the technology as suggested by improving-relationships.suite101. Emailing, chatting, online calls are the easiest of things to take advantage of nowadays. Just be very aware of the time differences, set a schedule and you’re good to go.

Eddie Corbano is a self proclaimed breakup recovery coach plying his trade with lovesagame. His first piece of advice for maintaining LDR’s (Long Distance Relationships) is to have a relationship plan for your future.

Love for love’s sake is romantic but if you want to make it last in special circumstances such as being oceans and continents apart, then goal setting is to be kept in mind. Take it upon yourself to give a time frame and a feasible goal when you can finally be together. A couple of years may be good enough to get financially or legally settled if things go well with your employment or business at hand. If your partner cannot give one, then at least offer yours. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, it will keep your ties going and growing if you know are headed in a direction. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flowers Philippines Delivery</a> .
Why Do We Celebrate Valentine’s Day?

The roots of Valentine’s Day can be traced back down to ancient Roman mythology for festivals honoring Gods and Goddesses for Women, Marriage and Fertility. On the top tier, we have Juno, said to be the Queen and mother of all Gods and Goddesses on Mt. Olympus. Her day was held on February 14. In continuity of the celebration for women, marriage and fertility, a festival called Lupercalia was held on the next day.

But this festival was held in the honor of two other related Gods, who were Lupercus who lorded over the pastures and forests and Faunus for agriculture. They were described as very similar to the Greek version that is the half-man half-goat God called Pan. This festival began with sacrifice of a dog (for purification) and a goat (for fertility) and their skins when worn and also cut into strips or thongs and dipped into blood to be slapped on the hands of women who wish for purification and fertility in the coming year.

These strips were called Februa and this many believe is the real origin of name February. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flower Shop Philippines</a> .
The Role of the Flower Girl in Traditional Weddings

Unlike many other roles and rituals which are still surrounded with debate, the roots of the role of the flower girl are made clear. In the era of the ancient Greeks and Romans flower girls were called upon in attendance during nuptials to symbolize the passage of the child into a blossoming and “blooming” woman, wife and mother.

Strewing petals on the altar pathways first began with scattering selected herbs and spices to signify fertility during the event. She is the classical symbol of innocence, which was carried on, even in the medieval age by offering of sheaths of wheat in the bridal procession.

Centuries rolled on and in the Elizabethan age, a number of flower girls were still involved in the bridal train and were followed by a troop of merry musicians. A special flower girl would also carry a silver cup meant for the bride and was decorated with bright ribbons alongside another carrying gold adorned rosemary branches. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flowers Philippines</a> .
Difference between the Value and Price of a Gift

On the Internet, the main definition of Value is an assigned quality that renders something desirable as to which Price is pure monetary value. Although further definition and options of how its use may render these two wonders interchangeable this article limits itself to it general meanings.

Wikipedia further describes a Gift as a transfer of something without need for compensation. It is a voluntary act, which is done without expectation of reciprocity and therefore meant to be free.

Gaspar/Casper (Jasper), Balthasar/Baltazar, and Melchior also referred to as the Magi, followed a star and came bearing gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh to the infant child Jesus. They play an integral part in the central theme of Christmas story and their act launched it THE gift-giving season for all of time.

Biblical scholars studied these gifts and came to conclude that although they were common gifts meant for a King; but the actual currency value of their gifts as described in the scrolls was miniscule. Myrrh was anointing/embalming oil, Frankincense was perfume and Gold was given as a valuable. The general consensus was that these gifts were actually more prophetic emblems in nature. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flower Delivery Philippines</a> .
Finding a Friend in a Spouse

It has been said before, that one of the hardest things to find in this world is a friend; the easiest is an enemy. Friends are bound by common ties, a kinship, a shared experience, interest or time. A friend is another person you have high regard for and trust.

A spouse on the other hand in generally described by wiki as a partner in a marriage. In jest, a spouse can be referred to as the “bitter half”. Web research shows in predominantly Christian countries that the divorce rate 17% for Spain is, in Italy it is 12% and the US a staggering 43%. The Philippines on the other hand does not allow divorce. But www.attyatwork.com and www.inquirer.net says that by 2007 the number of applicants for annulment of marriage reached 7,753.

As some discussion forums theorize if divorce was allowed in the Philippines that we would go by the way of the US statistics since we live very highly exposed to their particular culture. In any case, the point being made is that the rate of failure is alarming. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flower Shop Philippines</a> . Families and friends travel from all parts of the country and the globe to be witnesses in your union. Besides the great meal and the flowing drinks, guests are always entitled to some form of entertainment while the events flow.

The automatic reaction is to list down the affordable singers, bands or musicians in your network. Everyone has a special aunt or uncle and far off relative that are talented in some way or form. But there is always something you can cook up to start the ball rolling.

On the occasion that you set up cocktails prior to while preparing the banquet area, you can opt to leave a framed canvas or poster for guests to sign. You can leave colorful pens for all the gleeful messages.

Having Polaroid cameras at the area too give the guests something to do and nowadays this idea has risen to actual photo booths which are really quite fun to do.
Putting Music in your Wedding: Classic Wedding Songs

According to www2.stetson.edu a song becomes a classic when it is instantly recognized by a large number of people. Secondly, it should evoke a universal idea, a distinct mood or an event. Lastly, it must exemplify and belong to a sub-genre and retain these characteristics beyond its initial popularity.

For purposes of clarity, the first definition above is correct but still seems vague, so forums.kickassclassical.com approaches the definition with fresh insight.

Their definition does include European and Western art music originally penned during what is called the genre of the “common practice period” which was from the 1600’s to the 1900’s. This includes all music created after this period still following its style and tradition, which was created for the sake of the music style itself. Wikipedia further describes this period as neither modal which was the previous style, nor atonal which preceded it. In simple terms this genre obeyed a particular style in the use of scales and chords.

But of course there will some be some exceptions, as there will and are cases wherein the music transcends above the genre and can still be classified termed as classic. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Flowers Philippines</a> .
Top Five Wedding Color Themes

In themed weddings, colors are the first priority since it carries on from the bridal gown, invitations, clothes for the entourage down to napkins and tablecloths. On a website by Kate Smith, www.sensationalcolor.com she a answers the question “Is the color of love green or red?” An opinionated reader wrote that green seems to be more attractive on women. But Kate points out that although green is associated with nature, health and balance which might be confused with love, it still does not represent love on the passionate level between two people. The color red still claims this.

Bridal gowns are predominantly white nowadays since it is seen as a sign of purity and piety. But the truth of the matter is that even in biblical terms the color symbol for this is actually light blue, which was used more often in ancient times.

A writer named Kelsey McIntyre notes that the preference for white fashionably influenced by its choice for the bridal dress during Queen Victoria to her betrothal to her cousin Albert of Saxe-Coburg in 1840. It was a historic event and the esteemed designers of the day made constant use of it. **End Summary** Topics: Flowers Philippines Flower Philippines Florist Rose Fl
About the Author:
This article is written for Island Rose - <a href="http://www.islandrose.net">Florist Philippines</a> .
