Becoming a Family of Savers

Whenever a family is short on money, it can be quite stressful. I think that parents can truly benefit their children by making them active participants in the family's financial planning process.

With the current economy, paychecks are shrinking and the cost of living is rising. Make sure to pass this information down to the younger generation of your household. Don't be afraid to talk about financial issues with your children. This will teach your kids that life isn't always easy, and sometimes they just can't get everything that they want.

Think about giving your child an allowance to help him or her learn how to deal with money. While most kids do learn about earning money through an allowance, many do not learn how to properly budget. And by not learning this, they just think that they can keep coming back to their parents for more money when they run out.

While it isn't ideal, families can become closer in times of financial difficulties. Cut unnecessary costs in the budget, including expensive forms of entertainment and vacations. **End Summary** Topics: Christian debt reduction Christian credit relief Christian
About the Author:
Joe Larson is on of the many non-profit credit counselors working for Family Life Credit Services, a Christian credit relief center.
Budgeting with Children

Budgets and kids are two words rarely found in the same sentence. It seemed that no matter where my children were, if I had money on me, they would be by my side instantly with an idea or a way for me to spend it. Maybe this does not happen literally, but people with children, teenagers in particular, can relate.

On a serious note, it's absolutely crucial that our children learn proper budgeting. We as parents set the example for our children. They learn behavior from our habits whether good or bad. I would love to be able to give my children everything they want, and I have a very hard time telling them no. In all actuality, I needed to teach them that patience, budgeting, and money management are all very important.

We have become people who want instant gratification. Whatever we want we buy with our credit cards and worry about paying for it tomorrow. While we are raising our kids, if we buy them things the minute they come out, we are teaching them that this is the way things should be. **End Summary** Topics: Christian credit counseling Christian debt counseling Non-profit debt relief Christian debt reduction Christian credit relief
About the Author:
Family is very important to Joe Larson, one of the Christian credit counselors at Family Life Credit Services.
Collection Accounts – Have a Plan to Pay

Your first action is to obtain your credit report and have it in your own hands. To do so, visit http://www.annualcreditreport.com, where your free credit report is available through all three credit bureaus and will be provided to you once every year. By viewing your credit report, you will know exactly how much you owe each and every creditor. Their contact information will also be included. Sometimes information needs to be corrected, and it is vital that you review and dispute any such items.

After reviewing your credit report, you will have the information necessary to create a monthly budget. Your remaining income can go toward your collection accounts. By seeing exactly how and where you spend your money, you will be able to see how and where you can save your money. Your goal now is to stay on course and stick with the budget.

Talk with the creditors. The total sum of debt can be overwhelming, so focus only on one creditor at a time. See if you can get them to agree to accept a lower amount. **End Summary** Topics: Christian credit counseling Non-profit debt relief Christian debt reduction Christian debt relief Christian financial counseling
About the Author:
Joe Larson is a certified financial counseling expert working for Family Life Credit Services, a Christian credit counselors center.
