The Compelling And Beautiful Sunflower

Of all the flowers in my summer garden, none elicits more of my admiration and respect than the ever-present, unabashedly gaudy sunflower. Sunflowers are certainly one of nature's most grandiose displays of color and design, and for many centuries have enamored both gardeners and artists alike.

Their spectacular display of golden artistry on such elegant green slender stalks follows the slow transit of the sun through the sky all day long, as if the flowers were faces bent on tracking the source of the photons that are the essential and ultimate source of life for them and all other green things on the planet.

Easy to grow and requiring little attention other than regular watering, sunflowers provide dazzling color to any landscape, and thrifty flowers they are too, for they will re-seed themselves if left to go so seed, and pop up again and again, reliably.

If you love birds as I do, you will know sunflowers are one of the greatest attractions for all avian critters, whatever their particular persnickety tastes might otherwise be (i.e., thistles, millet, barley and whatnot). **End Summary** Topics: garden DIY landscaping
About the Author:
Al Haneson gives great information about Organic Lawn Care and how he uses corn gluten fertilizer on his lawn and garden.

Why Your Should Purchase Landscape Plants From Indie Growers

Having been on both sides of the fence, both as a gardener/plant-buyer and as a nursery owner, I have a unique, if prejudiced set of opinions on the best places to find great plants at great prices. It was not always so.
Years ago, when I was young, but still full of gardening ferver, I was seduced and be-dazzled by the lush displays of every conceivable (or so I thought) plant at chain stores, big box stores and franchises.

They were so beautiful to my way of thinking, so perfect in every way, they seemed unearthly. So I would spend a blue zillion dollars on them and spinning with delight carry my treasures home. I always planted them with tender loving care, followed to the letter any attached care instructions, and for a few weeks was practically in a coma over how wonderful my yard looked with them in it. But subtly and gradually this picture of perfection would change.

Plants would wilt, would lose color, and many committed the ultimate offense and just gave up the ghost and died. **End Summary** Topics: landscaping gardening
About the Author:
Al Haneson gives great information about Natural Lawn Tips at his site about gardening in the USA.

The Joy Of Annual Flowers In Spring

Some erstwhile, haphazard gardeners who want to satisfy themselves they're getting the "most" for their money refuse to put in annuals in the spring. I have to say I find their penny-pinching excuse amusing and just another worn out rationale in their large repertoire of excuses for not getting serious about gardening. The argument goes that since annuals don't re-seed themselves and poop out after late fall, they are somehow inferior to perennials. Hysterical stuff!

You need to have both kinds of flowers in your garden if you want to have something to look at all through the growing season. It's as simple as that.
For early garden color and healthy blooms well into the fall, nothing substitutes for the beauty and variety of annuals. If the "Iffy" gardeners just mentioned want to do without, that's their business and none of mine. But it's bad manners for them to poison the air and conversations among other good spirited, die-hard gardeners with their nonsense. **End Summary** Topics: gardening landscaping home improvement
About the Author:
Al Haneson gives great information about Organic Lawn Care at his site about gardening in the USA.

The Wonderful Lives Of The Live Oak Tree

My little farm is strewn with massive hundred year-old live oak trees dripping with masses of Spanish moss. The girth of some of these trees is 30 to 40 feet and their branches reach almost 100 feet into the sky.

They are the dominant presence on the landscape and their dark green "crowns" of thickly leaved branches often brush the ground. Standing beneath one of the live oaks, you get the impression you are in a large dimly lit room. The effect is cavernous and spectral. The rain can be coming down in sheets from the sky, and yet barely a sprinkle will penetrate the dense canopy of one of my live oaks.

The are the haven and sustenance of a myriad of life forms. Nations of squirrels live in them and make their living off of them. Birds galore roost in them and make their nests among their branches. Woodpeckers probably spend their whole lives on or in one of these mammoths, pecking and circling up and down their trunks and branches for insects and larvae. Raccoons use them too for lodging and as a means of escape from my dogs. **End Summary** Topics: garden landscaping
About the Author:
Al Haneson gives more information about Natural Lawn Care at his site about Natural Lawn Fertilizer .

Dream Jobs Start With A Proper, Professional Resume

Resume is a French word, which literally means "summary." Another word for it is Curriculum Vitae.

Thus, in essence, a resume lays down a summary of all of your educational and professional background for a particular job. It is such a crucial document for your job search because this is the first impression that a prospective employer gets about you.

Remember the old saying, "The first impression is the last impression." Well, this is exactly what a resume is prepared for. A solid resume will tell and convince the employer that you are indeed the perfect man for the job. A poorly prepared resume will be quickly forgotten. The employer will put it aside along with hundreds of other irrelevant resumes for the required job. In order to avoid such a dreadful result, a little extra effort on your part in preparing a good resume will open up countless avenues of opportunities.

1. Always Keep the Purpose of your Resume in Mind

Think of your resume as a chance for you to advertise about yourself. The more you spice it up with creativity and substance, the better chances you have getting that dream job you have always desired. **End Summary** Topics: employment resume tips job search
About the Author:
Al Haneson gives more information about easy cash jobs at his site about side job employment .

The Not So Clear History Of India Pale Ale Beers

India Pale Ale did not get its origins in India nor did any Indian for that matter have anything directly to do with the brewing of this beer style.

Back in the 1800s, British beer drinkers stationed in India found their beer stale or skunked whenever it reached their location. Imagine the distance that a bottle of beer would need to travel from Britain going around Africa across the vast Indian Ocean before reaching the pubs in Bombay and Calcutta. Not to mention the extreme temperature it has to endure while traveling and the kind of storage condition the tradesmen used.

That and all, would only mean beer gone bad. No matter how beer-deprived those British soldiers and citizens were, they could not take the taste and so George Hodgson of Bow Brewery thought of brewing the pale ale into something stronger that its taste could survive the extremely long voyage and so he mixed an abundant amount of dry hops with increased level of alcohol.

The taste indeed survived the distance traveled and the British community was ecstatic to receive the beer and enjoy drinking each bottle. **End Summary** Topics: beer spirits brewing
About the Author:
Al Haneson video blogs about beer reviews at his site Big Beer Blog .

Learning The Finer Points Of Wheat Beers

You probably have tried a wheat beer before but were not aware of it as one. Most beer drinkers are so attuned to brands that they forgot to inquire what beer style it was or could not care less. Blame it to the power of marketing and advertising.

Most wheat beers are brewed with an abundant amount of wheat and some with quite a large amount of malted barley. However, the variety of beer styles that falls under the wheat beer category are plenty like the ever popular stout beers.

Let us take a list of the well-known wheat beer and see if you have been able to drink a bottle or two.

The most popular original of this beer style would be the Hefeweizen. It was the exception to the German's purity law or the Reinheitsgebot which does not allow German brewers to use wheat as an ingredient in making beer. The noble wants it and so the government made the exemption. It is pale, heavy and cloudy.

American brewers has their own version of a wheat beer. It originated from the Hefeweizen recipe but without the yeasts making it more cleaner and subtler. **End Summary** Topics: beer brewing
About the Author:
Al Haneson shoots videos and reviews beer on his beer blogs .

The Finer Points Of American Beers

It is a known fact that the United States is a beer-drinking country. Beer has become a most favored alcoholic drink to Americans. Manufacturers of beer in the United States have reached around 1400 breweries. They range varies from giant beverage companies to small brew pubs. A lot of people have made beer brewing a hobby which they do at home. The United States is ranked the 1st worldwide to beer brewing. It is ranked the 8th in terms being beer drinkers in the world. They consume around 85 liters of beer annually.

History showed that beer brewing in the United States was a huge thing before this activity was prohibited. Breweries were shot down and production was stopped. But after a wile, the smaller producers dominated the market. With laws changing that became beneficial during the late70's, craft-beer revolution started.

Europe has also made a big influence on the production of beer in the United States. There are different styles of American beers produced in the market. Pale lager is one which is the most familiar among Americans. America also brewed English styles like pale ale, India pale ale, porter and stout. **End Summary** Topics: beer brewing
About the Author:
Al Haneson gives video beer reviews at his beer blog .

How To Discover Craft Beers Without Getting Bitter

I meet people every week who like to drink beer; over 21 of course. But too many of these folks are only enjoying light beers at the end of the watery scale. Now, don't get me wrong, there is nothing bad about drinking lighter beers in general, but what are you missing?

What you are missing are the wonderful, full flavored craft brews that are being made all around the United States and the world these days. But you can't just go jumping from a light, refreshing Mexican beer with a lime, to a thick, malty Porter Stout. You have to progress.

Here are some tips for enjoying beers in a progressive and fun manner.

First off, decide on what beers you like currently and use them as a baseline. Look at the alcohol content and the smoothness of the taste. Some people call this "drinkability." If you decide that the lighter Mexican beers are you starting point, then work up from there. Some of you, however, may start out with heavier ales or lagers, and that's fine too. The idea is to work up from where you start. **End Summary** Topics: craft beer alcoholic beverages brewing
About the Author:
Al Haneson gives great video beer reviews at his beer blog .

All There Is To Know About Composting

Composting is an easy process that is environment-friendly. Special knowledge of the process is not needed. It takes little effort to start collecting wastes and piling them up.

Organic wastes produced through the combination physical and chemical process happens when agents like fungi worms, insects and bacteria are combined in materials which are transformed further by oxidation, hydrolysis and reduction.
Having the appropriate amount of air and water keeps the chemical and biological and processes functioning well. This is the initial step to composting.

The right temperature also is a factor to achieving good composting. Warm weather is a good temperature for composting while during cooler temperature, the process of composting slows down. In a compost pile, the temperature within the pile is important. The high temperature of heat within it "cooks" it, thereby causing decomposition to hit its high peak.

The correct carbon to nitrogen proportion is also a factor to good composting. The C:N ratio are catalyst to its decomposition. Examples of materials high in nitrogen are plant trimmings, grass clippings and kitchen scraps. Examples of materials high in carbon are sawdust, straw and wood chips. The ratio of nitrogen to carbon 1:30. **End Summary** Topics: gardening landscaping recycling
About the Author:
Al Haneson gives more information about lawn and garden at his site about landscaping in Chicago .

Now Is The Time To Prepare Your Christmas Lights

Nothing makes a home look more festive during the holiday season than tastefully arranged outdoor Christmas lights. After all, what says "Merry Christmas" better than a brightly decorated home glowing in the night?

Homeowners, though, do have to be careful when decorating their residences with holiday bulb strings lights. Yes, you do want your home to be bright; you do want it to be cheery; and you do want it to stand out. But you don't want it to be overly garish. A home that boasts too many bright strands of bulbs and lights will disturb the neighbors and reflect badly upon homeowners.

Be careful, too, with musical or noisy outdoor Christmas decorations. Remember, they may seem festive to you. Your neighbors, though, may not want to hear "We Wish you a Merry Christmas" blaring from that six foot Santa Claus every night for a month.

The best way to decorate your home with outside holiday lights is to create a plan. Decide from the beginning what kind of decorating you want: Do you want your home to be decorated simply with classic and endearing white icicle lights? **End Summary** Topics: christmas holidays family
About the Author:
Al Haneson gives more information about outdoor Christmas lights at his site about LED holiday lights .

Remember when gas prices rose past $3 a gallon in many cities across the United States? Drivers clamored for alternative fuels so that the country wouldn't be so reliant on foreign sources of oil. As gas prices have gone back down, the shouts for alternative fuels have quieted.

But that hardly means that the United States doesn't need to invest its resources into developing green gas alternatives that can not only power our cars and trucks, but the machinery in our factories, too.

Fortunately, there are plenty of researchers and scientists today developing alternative fuels. There's hope that that one day the United States will no longer have to rely on unstable outside governments to provide as much of the gasoline that the country needs.

What are exactly talking about here then? Basically, sustainable, burnable, combustible substances are any materials that can be used as gas that aren't derived or pulled from conventional sources. Conventional fuel sources include fossil fuels, such as oil, coal and propane.

Today's extracurricular fuel sources include such unconventional forms of power as vegetable oil, hydrogen, bio-diesel and chemically stored electricity in batteries and fuel cells. **End Summary** Topics: bio fuels green energy oil
About the Author:
Al Haneson gives more information about Stream Energy Fraud at his site about Ignite Scams .
