New Relief For Cedar Fever

The season of mountain cedar pollen is upon us once again in South Texas. For anyone who has cedar allergies, this comes as bad news. Cedar allergy symptoms, or "Cedar Fever" as the syndrome is often called usually consist of congestion, sneezing, coughing, and itchy, red eyes. As the name suggests, many people will also run a low-grade fever.

From December through February, mountain cedar season is most likely the hardest time of year for those with allergies living in the Austin, San Antonio, and Texas Hill Country area. With numerous cedar trees in the region each producing massive quanities of pollen, the majority of allergy treatments are rendered essentially useless - they simply are no match for the pollen.

Local news shows love to demonstrate the high cedar pollen release by sending a crew out to show someone shaking a mountain cedar branch to release the inevitable cloud of pollen. The fine, dust-like pollen is easily blown off the trees and carried all over the area by the high winds that are typical of this time of year. **End Summary** Topics: cedar fever symptoms cedar allergies mountain cedar fever natural allergy relief allergies holistic medicine health health medicine
About the Author:
Dr. George Best is a holistic healthcare provider in San Antonio, Texas and has been providing natural allergy relief for the past eight years.
Some Natural Weight Loss Aids Can Actually Make You Gain Weight

Natural weight loss products fill the market, but just because a weight loss aid is "natural", it does not mean that it is completely safe, nor is it a sure thing that it will help your weight loss efforts in the long run. The truth is, some very popular natural weight loss products pose some health risks, and even though they might stimulate quick weight loss at the beginning, in the long run they can actually cause you to gain weight.

The biggest problems are with the natural weight loss aids that contain stimulants. Natural weight loss aids that contain stimulants work very much like stimulant drugs, and they have the same risks.

Caffeine, ma huang (also known as ephedra), guarana, kola nut, and yerba mate' are the most popular of the natural products that act as stimulants. All of these have very strong stimulant effect when taken in the doses typically recommended for weight loss. The effects of these products are very much like the effects of amphetamine drugs. Although most people know that amphetamine use can be risky, some will assume incorrectly that a natural product will be safe. **End Summary** Topics: natural weight loss products stimulants weight gain ephedra ma huang kola nut guarana yerba mate caffeine weight loss health health fitness
About the Author:
Dr. George Best has been assisting people with weight loss since 1992.
The Relationship Between Stress And Weight Gain

Stress can cause a number of different reactions, including weight gain or loss, depending on the circumstances. Weight loss due to stress is most often primarily due to decreased eating, and is therefore largely within our conscious control.

Weight gain due to stress may be under conscious control when it is the result of increased eating. But in many cases stress-related weight gain is due to the effect of stress hormones and is not under conscious control.

In many cases, high stress levels, particularly over an extended period of time will lead to an increased level of the adrenal hormone, cortisol, in the blood. Cortisol has several effects, but in relation to weight issues, the primary effect is to promote the storage of fat in the lower abdomen. It is believed that this effect has a survival purpose in that if one were subjected to harsh conditions for a long period of time, the body would need to conserve energy and save it in the form of stored fat.

As just stated, cortisol causes the body to store additional fat in the abdomen. **End Summary** Topics: stress-related weight gain natural weight loss diet exercise weight loss stress health fitness
About the Author:
Dr. George Best is a holistic healthcare practitioner in San Antonio, Texas.
Planning Ahead For Weight Loss Success

When one fails to plan his or her meals, it can be a challenge to stick to a weight loss plan. Even relatively good meals that can be picked up quickly at a drive-through are often detrimental to weight loss.

Because of busy schedules, it is common for people to just grab quick meals. Often this means stopping at a fast food establishment and trying to find some option that won't wreck your diet too badly. Unfortunately, even the healthier options at fast food places may not be ideal for those trying to lose weight.

The fall-back choice of salad may seem pretty diet-friendly, but not all salads support you in your weight loss goals. People often think they are doing a good thing by getting a salad with "lite" or fat-free dressing, but the salad itself maybe loaded with fat from things like bacon bits, fried chicken, and/or cheese. Besides the fat, for people who are particularly sensitive to carbohydrates, most dressings, especially the low-fat varieties, are loaded with sugar which may be enough to cause a high release of insulin, which can block fat-burning for one to two days at a time. **End Summary** Topics: diet eating weight loss plan weight loss health fitness meal planning
About the Author:
To obtain additional weight loss information,, please visit Dr. Best's site on diet motivation .
Follow-Through Is Key To Natural Weight Loss Success

There are many good, healthy, weight loss plans available that provide good, sensible diets with effective exercise programs, and perhaps safe natural weight loss aids. Each of these programs have their dramatic success stories. But if there is no real shortage of effective weight loss programs, why do so many people have such trouble losing weight? What is the difference between the people who choose a program and lose 20, 50, even 100 pounds or more and those who do the exact same program and never lose an ounce?

The key difference is follow-through. No matter how good a weight loss program is, it won\'t work for someone if they don\'t stick to it consistently long-term. Most people start a weight loss program with good intentions and they may even be highly motivated at first, but the majority get off track quickly - usually within a week or two - and never really get any momentum on their natural weight loss plan.

The question is, what causes someone who has finally made the commitment to lose weight to lose his or her motivation so quickly as to never make any real progress?

Actually, a lot of things can happen. **End Summary** Topics: natural weight loss diet and exercise motivation weight loss diet and exercise motivation health and fitness self-improvement
About the Author:
Dr. George Best is a holistic healthcare provider in San Antonio, Texas.
Why Eating Carbohydrates Sabotages Weight Loss

Most people who are trying to lose weight are probably aware of the common advice to avoid carbohydrates, but many are unaware of why this reommendation is so critical and to what extent carbs need to be avoided. Although some experts will proclaim that calories are calories and weight loss is simply a matter otaking in fewer calories than you burn off with exercise and daily activities, not all calories are burned the same way. With some investigation, it quickly becomes clear that calories from carbohydrates are much more difficult to burn than calories from other sources carbohydrates have a strong tendency to promote fat deposition.

The primary problem with a high intake of carbohydrate is the stimulation of insulin production. The purpose of insulin is to promote the uptake of blood sugar (which after a meal is in usually in greater supply than what is needed at that particular moment in time) and store any excess for future use.

This extra blood sugar is first stored as a compound called glycogen in the muscles and liver. Glycogen can be quickly converted back to blood sugar when needed for energy to fuel sudden bursts of activity. **End Summary** Topics: natural weight loss low carbohydrate diet insulin response fat burning weight loss health fitness health nutrition
About the Author:
Dr. George Best writes extensively on the subject of natural weight loss.
Natural Weight Loss Requires More Than Just A Magic Pill

While it would be nice if there were a "magic pill" that could bring about natural weight loss, the fact of the matter is that effective weight loss simply must include a combination of approaches that includes diet and exercise. Combining good eating habits with appropriate exercise and safe weight loss aids provides the greatest chance for weight loss success.

Many natural weight loss aids are available, and there appears to be no end of new ones coming on the market. Everyone of them is promoted as a breakthrough and many who are desperate to lose weight will eagerly purchase the latest and greatest weight loss product hoping it will solve their problem. People really want to think that there is some easy way to lose weight and hope for a way to avoid difficult diet and exercise programs. Although at some level, most realize that the current weight loss wonder being promoted probably won't work any better than the the ones that have come before, many will purchase the new hope and wind up frustrated once again with the lack of results. **End Summary** Topics: natural weight loss diet aids weight loss products diet exercise weight loss fitness health lifestyle wellness
About the Author:
For more information, including a free diet and exercise plan and reviews of popular natural weight loss products, or to access Dr. Best's E-Book mentioned in this article, please visit natural weight loss .
Could Your Exercise Program Be Keeping You Fat?

Although exercise is a necessary part of any effecte natural weight loss plan, too much exercise or the wrong kind of exercise can interfere with the abilty of some people to effectively burn fat. Individuals who carry most of their excess weight as lower abdominal fat often suffer from fatigue of the adrenal glands. Adrenal fatigue typically occurs as an effect of chronic stress and excessive exercise will make the problem worse and actually promote fat deposition in the lower belly.

The adrenal glands are positioned on top of each kidney. They are small but extremely important glands that produce many hormones for many functions in the body. The most well-known of the adrenal hormones is adrenaline, which is produced in stressful or exciting situations and causes effects such as increased heart rate and respiration, increased blood pressure, and increased circulation to the muscles to make the body ready for bursts of activity. Adrenaline also burns fat to use for energy, and promotes weight loss when it is present in the blood stream.

In addition to adrenaline, the adrenal glands produce another hormone that is involved in weight control, called cortisol. **End Summary** Topics: natural weight loss exercise diet weight loss health fitness lifestyle wellness
About the Author:
To get additional information, please visit Dr. Best's website dedicated to natural weight loss Dr. George Best has been in private practice as a holistic healthcare provider in San Antonio, Texas since 1992.
