Golf Grip Advice For Longer, Straighter And More Consistent Golf Shots

How you grip the club has a huge affect on the golf shots you hit. But don't let anyone tell you that there is one golf grip that everyone should use, because that is simply not true. You've just got to look at professional golfers to see this. For example, Ben Hogan used a weak grip to help combat a hook problem. Nick Faldo uses a neutral grip. Then John Daly uses a strong golf grip.

Now you've probably heard that the weakness/strength of your golf grip is related to where the V's of your hands are pointing. But I've got a much better way to check your grip and find out what works best for you.

First of all, get a semi permanent felt tip pin and draw circles about 1 cm above your top hand's knuckles. So for a right handed golfer you would do this on your left hand. For a left handed golfer you would do this on your right hand.

Now simply practice taking your grip and see what your grip feels like when you can see 1 knuckle, then 2 knuckles, then 3 knuckles on your top hand. **End Summary** Topics: golf grip golf
About the Author:
Nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
How To Feel The Golf Clubhead As You're Swinging

For a lot of amateur golfers, feeling the clubhead when swinging simply doesn't happen and sadly never will. But for golf professionals they have an intimate feeling of where the golf club is at all times during the golf swing.

Could that be a golf swing secret?

Well, I don't want to say for certain but if you have trouble feeling the clubhead as you're swinging here's a simple golf drill that will help give you the feeling of the clubhead as you're swinging. This can only help you to hit the golf ball better.

To do this golf drill simply setup to a golf ball and grip the golf club as you normally would. BUT move your grip up the club so that you have the last two fingers of your top hand off the end of the golf grip. Once you have done this then I want you to swing with this "new" golf grip.

By doing this it will force you to place a lot less emphasis on your hands and arms as your big muscles will be forced to control the golf swing. **End Summary** Topics: golf drill clubhead golf swing
About the Author:
Nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
Align Yourself Accurately For Every Golf Shot By Doing This…

The way you align yourself for every golf shot has a huge affect on whether each shot is going to be a success or not.

Now there is a sure-fire way of improving your alignment and consequently this improves your chances of success for each golf shot. To do this here is what you need to do.

Before each and every golf shot you play I suggest you pick an intermediate target and the importance of doing this should never, ever be underestimated. A while back I read an interesting story about the late, Payne Stewart and what happened just before he won the 1999 U.S. Open. This story relates to alignment so please read it carefully.

“During our Tuesday practice round, Dr. Richard Coop, a sports psychologist who has worked with Payne for a number of years, walked with us. As he watched Payne play the course, he noticed something vital. "When are you picking your spots?" he asked.

They had been working on a way to improve Payne's set-up and alignment. Payne would pick a spot in front of the ball and align the club and his body to that spot. **End Summary** Topics: golf swing golf shot alignment
About the Author:
Nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
The Golf Grip - How Hard Should You Hold It?

Keeping a solid and firm golf grip while swinging is critical to your golfing consistency and success. Now there are many different "ideas" on how hard you should grip the golf club, e.g. hold the grip as though you’re holding a baby bird OR hold the grip as tight as you would a loaf of bread etc., etc. But the bottom line really is not so much how hard you hold the grip but it’s how hard you don’t hold it.

What do I mean?

Well in an ideal world you should hold the golf grip just hard enough so it doesn’t slip or move around when you swing. Now how hard that is for you or me varies greatly on the strength of our hands.

If you have very strong hands then you may not need to hold the golf grip as hard as, say, I would. So the defining line on how hard to golf grip a club is by how much it moves and here’s a great way to determine your golf grip movement. **End Summary** Topics: golf grip
About the Author:
Nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping YOU from ball striking consistency and success.
How To Handle Windy Conditions When Playing Golf

First of all…how does the average amateur handle windy conditions? Most swing harder and faster, but unfortunately that is the last thing you should be doing. Harder and faster swings lead to more mistakes, which are then compounded by the windy conditions. What you think would work, is often the opposite of what actually does work!

The very first thing you should do when playing in the wind is to throw up grass to see which way the wind is blowing where you are. Next, have a look at the trees around where your ball is going to be going to see what way the wind is blowing there. If there are no trees in that area, look at the flag. Lastly use your ears to hear the wind and this will help you to tell how strong it is. Once youâ€'ve assessed the situation you should then follow the pointers below.

Into the Wind:

When playing into the wind you should take one, two or even three clubs more than usual and swing normally. Also grip down on the grip so your swing will be automatically shorter. Because the shorter your swing the lower the ball will go (generally). **End Summary** Topics: golf wind
About the Author:
Nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping YOU from ball striking consistency and success.
Improve Your Golf Game By Looking At Your Golf Divots

A lof of golfers take their divots for granted. But you shouldn't because you can use them to help improve your golf game. How? Well, your divots indicate the path the clubhead is traveling on when it comes into the ball. For example, if your divots are consistently pointing to the right of your target then that means you've approach the ball from the inside. This is for a right hand...if you're a left hander it would mean that you've cut across the ball.

If your divots are pointing to left it means that you've approached the ball from the outside (if you're a left hander and your divots pointing to the left it means you've come from the inside). Obviously if your divots are straight at the target then that means you've come into the golf ball on a perfect path.

Now the only other variable that determines where the ball goes is the clubface position at impact. I'm going to give you the combinations of clubface and path so you can tell what has happened after the shot.

Divot Pointing Right

==> If your clubface is square to the divot you'll produce a straight push. **End Summary** Topics: golf divots improve
About the Author:
Professional golfer Nick Bayley has found just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.

Here are some simple golf flexibility tests you can do to see if your current flexibility is hurting your golf game or not. And the first golf flexibility test is the sit-and-reach test. This test is basically an assessment of the flexibility of your lower back and hamstrings, but it can also be a good gauge of your general flexibility. To complete this test you need a box and a ruler. And it's a good idea to have someone help you with this test.

First of all warm up thoroughly and then sit with your feet placed fully extended out in front of you onto the box. Keep your legs straight and reach as far forward as possible with your fingers stretched forward. Do not bounce for this test, just stretch as far as you can and then get someone to measure your distance either past or before the box. The measurements past the box should be recorded as PLUS distances, whereas in front of the box should be recorded as MINUS distances. **End Summary** Topics: golf flexibility golf
About the Author:
Nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping YOU from ball striking consistency and success.
Golf Stretches For Use After A Game Of Golf

Following are stretches which can be used after a game of golf to help prevent getting sore and to also improve flexibility. Remember to hold each stretch for at least 30 seconds if you want to see a fast improvement in your flexibility. And if it hurts "Stop!"

Note: Read all instructions carefully before attempting any of these exercises & breath through your nose for all of the stretches.

1. KERB STRETCH

An effective way to stretch your calf muscles is to use a piece of wood or a step. Stand with the balls of your feet on the edge of the step and let your heels drop towards the floor, feeling the stretch in the calf and breathing easily through your nose. I find it best to perform this exercise with both feet at the same time, but you can do it with one leg at a time if you prefer.

2. STANDING QUADRICEPS STRETCH

Stand behind a chair. Hold on to the back of a chair with your left hand for support and raise your lower right leg. Now reach behind yourself with your right arm and get hold of your raised right leg. **End Summary** Topics: golf exercise golf flexibility
About the Author:
Nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.

Running is a great way to strengthen your legs for golf. But walking is better on your body. Personally I used to hate running and thought it was bad for the joints. So I avoided it. Then their came a time in my life when I wanted to go for a job that required a fitness element. So I had to start running.

At first I found it very hard because after every run I would feel sore and tired. But then I discovered a safe, enjoyable way to run. I found out that I was working far too hard for my body. There is an Optimum training heart rate for everyone, and it is about 50 % of your maximum. When I started training at 50% of my maximum I felt great after my runs and my fitness improved dramatically along with my golf game.

As a consequence I now love going for a run. Here is how I made the turn around from being a reluctant runner to someone who want's to go for a run. This information is equally important if you decide to do walking instead of running. **End Summary** Topics: golf exercise golf
About the Author:
Nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping YOU from ball striking consistency and success.
Discover The Quickest & Easiest Way To Improve Your Golf Game

If someone was holding a gun to my head and asked me..."what is the quickest and easiest way to improve a golfers score"....I'd have to say, "improve your putting." Because if you shot over 90 in your last game of golf and you had 6 three puts then you don't have to be a genius to work out that if you 2 putted instead of 3 putting then you'd score 6 shots better.

Ok, we've worked out that you need to practice your putting, but how?

Well it's been proven that the better the putter is the better they are at long putts, so that's where you should spend most of your time practicing. And you shouldn't just practice you putting line but instead you should practice hitting putts the correct weight. Because it doesn't matter if your ball is on the correct line if it's 10 feet short or long. And think about how often your putts are 10 feet wide of the hole. It's not often is it?

So you need to practice long putting. **End Summary** Topics: putting putt golf
About the Author:
Nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
90+ Shooters -- This Golf Article Is For You!

The advice I'm about to give you in this article goes for any golfer who wants to score better but it is very much aimed at golfers that score consistently over 90 for 18 holes of golf.

What you need to work on to score better is the following and this list is from the highest priority to the lowest…

1. Putting

2. Chipping

3. Pitching

4. Bunker Shots

5. Driving

6. Irons

7. Fairway woods

You should work on improving your putting first because if you normally have 38 putts per round and you improve by 5 putts per round you've just knocked 5 shots off your score. This same philosophy applies to chipping and pitching. The more you can improve those two aspects of your game the better you'll score. And finally, you must get really good at bunker shots.

Now when you're practicing putting you should mainly work on distance control. So practice longer putts first and then leave the shorter putts till last. And don't practice your putting for too long. Just get some good feel for distance and then go and practice your chipping and pitching. **End Summary** Topics: golf
About the Author:
Nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping YOU from ball striking consistency and success.

If you have an hour to put towards improving your golf game here's what I suggest you do to get the most out of this time.

When you arrive at the practice area the very first thing you should do is a few stretches to warm up and you should do this for anything up to 5 minutes or until you're warm.

Once you're loosened up the next thing you should do is to start off hitting a couple of wedge shots and then slowly go through each club in your bag, hitting a few shots with each one until you reach your driver. This should take about 20 minutes. When hitting these shots you should treat each one as though it's a real shot on the golf course. In other words, choose a precise target for each shot and then go through your normal pre-shot routine.

Once you've finished the 20 minutes of hitting full shots you should now practice pitching for 15 minutes and you should do this by hitting shots to all different distances. **End Summary** Topics: golf practice golf
About the Author:
The professional golfer Nick Bayley has discovered from extensive analysis just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
Simple Golf Drill For Longer, More Powerful Golf Shots

The posture you assume when you setup to a golf ball has a huge affect on your golf swing. For example, your posture determines whether or not you can shift your weight and turn fully and without restriction away from the golf ball.

This obviously has a HUGE effect on your potential distance output.

Also, your posture position at setup will largely determine how well you maintain your balance as you're swinging and how forcefully you can swing down and through the ball, thus determining how far you can hit the ball.

Yes, the posture you set at address really is that important!

But don't believe me, instead listen to what this pretty famous golfer has to say about it…

"You need to be in an athletically ready position so you can respond to movement quickly, smoothly and without losing your balance."

Tiger Woods

But luckily, having a good athletic posture position is really, really easy to achieve. Unfortunately most golfers either don't place enough importance on posture or they think their posture is OK. **End Summary** Topics: golf drill golf swing
About the Author:
The professional golfer Nick Bayley has discovered from extensive analysis just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
How To Keep Your Golf Grip In Hot Or Wet Conditions

Is there anything worse than swinging a golf club and feeling the club slipping in your hands? Because if that happens you're pretty much guaranteed a terrible golf shot. And unless you're Tiger Woods it is very hard to stop the swing when you're in the downswing of a golf swing.

I have no idea how Tiger does that!

Anyway, if the weather is very hot and humid the chances of your grip slipping as you're swinging goes way up. Also, if you're playing in the rain then naturally the chances of your grip slipping as you make your golf swing go up as well.

But there are simple solutions to this problem which don't have to cost you anything. And the first solution is a dry towel.

When you play golf you should carry at least 1 extra golf towel. Ideally you should carry two extra golf towels however. And if you're getting hot and sweaty or it's raining then before and after every golf shot you should be wiping your golf grips and hands with one of your dry towels. **End Summary** Topics: golf grip golf
About the Author:
The professional golfer Nick Bayley has discovered from extensive analysis just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
Golf Schools versus Golf Lessons

There are hundreds of golf schools, and they all claim they'll improve your golf game. Also, there are thousands of golf professional all who claim they can improve your golf game. So what should you choose, a Golf School or Personal Golf Lessons?

Well to help you decide here's a quick comparison of going to a school compared with getting personal lessons from a golf professional.

Personal Golf Lessons:

*You decide what you want to work on and when.

* The average price for an hour long personal lesson with a pro is $75.

* You are the star with the professional's attention only on you.

* Generally your lesson is in the same place where you can hit balls before you play.

* If something is going wrong you simply arrange another lesson to help fix it.

* Top instructors are very busy and it's tough to get into their schedules so you may have to settle for a teacher that is not as good.

Golf Schools:

* You can practice everything but you're generally told what you must practice and when.

* Average price for a Top 25 School in the US is $1,108. **End Summary** Topics: golf schools golf lessons golf
About the Author:
Professional golfer Nick Bayley has found just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
Golf Swing Balance Problems Solved With One Exercise!

If you often lose your balance in your golf swing here's what you can do about it.

First of all, you need to understand that the way you setup to the golf ball dictates to a large degree the balance that you'll have during your golf swing. And so here is how to achieve a balanced posture position from which to start your golf swing.

1st. - Stand up straight with your feet about shoulder width apart, then

2nd. - Take the straightness out of your knees, then...

3rd. - Place a club along your spine, and then

4th. - Bend forward making sure that your spine remains straight. It's very important when doing this golf drill that your backside moves back as this helps to create a balanced golf posture position. You want your weight to be on the balls of your feet when you're setup and it won't be unless you follow the steps I've suggested.

And finally…..

5th. - Once you've bent over (by moving your backside back and keeping your back straight) the next step is to move your left hip (right hip for lefties) slightly towards your target. **End Summary** Topics: golf swing golf golf swing balance
About the Author:
Nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
Golf Alignment -- Two Great Tips

How you align yourself when setting up to hit a golf ball has a critical affect on how good your golf shots are going to turn out. But don't believe me. Read what a golf legend has to say on this alignment issue…

"It goes without saying that it is no good having a perfect setup, perfect grip and perfect golf swing if the whole thing is misaligned. It sounds obvious but many players simply do not spend enough time getting themselves on target."

Nick Faldo - Winner of 6 Major Championships

So hopefully you now understand the importance of golf alignment. And if you do, here's a simple exercise that you can quickly and easily do to check your feet alignment.

To do this golf alignment exercise I want you to setup to a golf shot as normal and get comfortable. Then just before you're ready to hit your shot, get two golf balls and without moving your feet place them directly behind your heels so they're touching your feet. Now take your feet away and go back behind your ball down the line of your target and see how good your alignment was. **End Summary** Topics: golf golf alignment
About the Author:
Nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
Critical Ball Position Instruction Revealed

When you swing a golf club well you do so without any conscious thoughts. Or in other words you swing the club automatically using your subconscious mind. The better and more consistent your setup the more you'll be able to swing automatically. And to back me up on this read this quote from Tiger Woods:

"Poor ball position is a silent killer. If you don't place the ball precisely in relation to your stance, the ball will be playing you instead of you playing the ball. You'll have to conjure up some type of weird swing movement just to get the club on the ball, and because of that you'll never be consistent."

Tiger Woods

So one huge determining factor as to whether or not you become a consistent ball striker will be where you position the ball in your stance and how consistently you get the ball positioned where it needs to be for each club. If your ball is positioned poorly then you'll need to make a lot of compensations as you swing and this will mean you'll greatly lack consistency. **End Summary** Topics: Tiger Woods golf swing ball position golf
About the Author:
Nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
4 Golf Driver Tips

Regularly golfers approach me with this question…

"I can hit my irons well but I greatly lack consistency with my driver. Can you give me some advice on what I need to do to hit my driver like my irons?"

If you resonate with that question then you'll want to read this entire article now. Because in it I'm going to give you some simple tips to improve your driving off the tee. And the first thing we're going to look at is your equipment. Specifically, the shaft in your driver.

You see, the shaft of any club is the most important aspect of the club that will affect performance. If the shaft that is in your golf driver is not suited to you and your golf swing then you'll always struggle to hit that golf club consistently well.

So when a golfer comes to me complaining about great inconsistency with their driver over their irons I routinely ask this question…

"Does your driver have a different shaft than your irons? **End Summary** Topics: golf driver golf
About the Author:
The professional golfer Nick Bayley has discovered from extensive analysis just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
Check Your Golf Backswing With This Simple Golf Drill

Often on the driving range I see golfers swinging and then stopping at the top of their backswing to see if the club is in the correct position or not. But this is a very hard and not very accurate way of telling if your top of the backswing position is correct or not.

So if you've struggled to tell whether your golf backswing is correct then today I'm going to give you a great exercise that will allow you to quickly tell if your golf backswing is too upright, too flat or just right.

To do this golf drill you simply have to swing back to the top of your backswing and stop and hold your backswing position for a couple of seconds.

Then from this position simply slowly loosen your grip and let the shaft fall down. If the golf club hits you on the tip of your right shoulder then that strongly indicates that the top of your backswing position is good. But if the club misses your body altogether that indicates that your backswing is too flat. And conversely if your club hits your head or neck that indicates that your swing is too upright. **End Summary** Topics: golf swing golf golf backswing
About the Author:
The professional golfer Nick Bayley has discovered from extensive analysis just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
Golf Swing Sequencing - THE Secret For Effortless Power

The sequencing of your golf swing has a large effect on the potential distance you can hit the golf ball. And if you get it wrong you'll be costing yourself a lot of distance. So if you're like almost every golfer that has ever lived, you want to hit the golf ball as long as possible. But to do this you need to understand golf swing sequencing.

To get started let's look at what should happen in the sequencing of the backswing.

To start the backswing you must do so with your big muscles¦namely your back and shoulders. You do NOT want to start your backswing with your hands.

Now as you're starting the backswing by turning your shoulders and back you also need to shift your weight to your right foot. And you should continue to move your weight to your right foot (for a right hander) all throughout the turning of your backswing so that when you reach the top of the backswing position you have about 90% of your weight on your right foot.

So you can sum up the backswing as a shift and turn. **End Summary** Topics: golf swing distance backswing downswing transition
About the Author:
Nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
Fix Your Golf Slice With This Proven Formula

If you've been looking for a permanent cure for your golf slice problem it's your lucky day. Why? Because I'm going to give you THE formula I've used to cure literally thousands of golfer's slice problems from all around the world. And so with that being said, here are the 4 things you absolutely must do to fix your golf slice for good....

1. Setup for a draw

2. Swing from the inside so the ball starts to the right (for a right handed golfer) of your final target

3. Contact the ball with a slightly closed clubface

4. Have equipment that encourages you to draw the ball

Now that list of 4 things is generally the opposite of what every golfer does to hit a slice. As an example, when a golfer who is right handed and has a slice problem attempts to fix it....they do it by aiming to the left to allow for it. And as we all know, that just makes a slice worse, doesn't it?

Now the absolute quickest possible way to fix your slice is to do the exact opposite of what you're currently doing. **End Summary** Topics: golf slice golf swing golf cure golf slice fix golf slice
About the Author:
Professional golfer Nick Bayley has found just one golf swing fault that could be stopping you from ball striking consistency and success.
