There are more people entering college now, than there ever has been in the past since colleges were first formed in America. With tuition and book charges rising drastically over the past 2 years however, fewer people are willing to take the plunge into debt. If more people looked at the college and career outlooks for their proposed career, they may be more apt to enroll. For lawyers, the school requirements are about 7 years of full time college. This includes 4 total years of undergraduate school and then 3 years of law school. All law school applicants generally have to have a bachelor’s degree to even apply. There are many colleges that have mentoring programs for all students and alumni. These mentoring programs range from help with courses to personal problems, and some colleges even offer these programs as a way of connecting with others for job experience or networking. Mentoring programs are generally offered through the coordinator or student information offices, as well as at online colleges through the library. There are opportunities for current students and teachers to become a mentor. Some online colleges allow for their current students who have completed more than 1 course to become a mentor. This position is always unpaid and done on a volunteer basis. College Placement Tests

In order to be admitted to many colleges private and public, more than 1 million high school aged students must take a college placement test. Many four year institutions rely on the standardized tests ACT and SAT. Many schools will accept either test, and some schools accept both tests. For schools on the west and east coast, the SAT I is generally accepted, while in the Midwest and central US, the ACT is accepted more. The ACT test is a general college placement test that covers English, math, reading, science and reasoning skills as well as an optional writing test. The test fee is $32 with an additional $15 for the writing test and takes up to 3 hours and 25 minutes with the writing test. The SAT I is $45 and takes up to 3 hours and 45 minutes, and covers reading and math reasoning as well as writing skills. The SAT II is generally used for a specific area of study and tests on one subject alone. All colleges have means of recruiting new students to their schools. Some use radio spots while others use mailers and even internet ads. There are numerous ways for college recruiting to take place in the digital age we currently live in. College recruiting requires a recruiter for each school. These recruiters are responsible for luring possible students to their schools using a variety of strategies. Some are allowed to use discounted application fees for persons who have served in the military, while others play on the possibility of scholarships and tuition being paid to get new students to join their establishments. There are some college recruiting specialists that look specifically for those students that are inclined to play on their sports team such as baseball, soccer, football and basketball. Now more than ever there are more adults attending college. Some are experiencing a tumultuous time in their careers and are training for another career, while others are simply getting the education they need to begin a career. Whatever the cause, there are a shortage of jobs for those that are currently in college. College jobs are hard to come by, whether it be due to the schedule for classes or the lack of experience. When attending school, college jobs can be found. The financial aid office at the school you attend can give you information on federal work study programs that you qualify for based on financial need. These jobs would help to pay part of your tuition, but you would also get a paycheck. If you need more than part time hours from a college job, it is best to seek employment outside the school. For those who have prior work experience, finding a college job is less strenuous than for those with no experience in the workforce at all. For those persons who have no experience, you have to get experience somewhere.
