Does Height Matter?

I work among people of varying heights and sizes. Some are shorter than I am, but so many are so much taller. Interestingly enough, many of the taller ones have parents who are considerably shorter than I am. You have to wonder how and why so much changes in one generation. So many theories abound about diet and additives in food and their affect on size. But if we use that as a reason, wouldn't everybody be affected? Wouldn't everyone be taller? You know height can play a huge role in shaping our confidence. What I noticed over the years as a teacher, was that the taller students generally speaking, were so much confident, so much more outspoken, and sadly, often much less tolerant of some of the shorter students. I am not suggesting for a moment that the name-calling, and asides about height, or lack of it, were deliberately malicious, but I do know that they often hurt, and, they impacted on a child's social performance. Laws of Attraction - Can They work For You?

There are a lot of ideas being peddled these days about the Law of Attraction, much of it instigated through 'The Secret'. Don't know about you, but for me there was an amazing sense of belief in watching the movie, belief that we can all make our dreams come true. I've just finished reading the most interesting article written by a Canadian physician, Dr. Mel Borins, concerning health and holidays. Though written quite a number of years ago, it has a clear message and is relevant for many of us, today. Are you bucking the stockpiling trend? Do you factor in annual holidays with your friends and family? Congratulations! For many years I recall so many people talk about wanting to travel, but not having the money, or the time, or being too busy. Some,I know, have looked back regretfully about not having done something they really wanted to do. Sadly, all of them failed to factor in the passage of time and so, regrets set in. Today I cut some roses from my garden and brought them inside to put in vases. As I was trimming the leaves from the stems, I noticed a little spider in the sink. Clearly I had disturbed whatever it had been doing in the garden. Now I am not particularly concerned about spiders if I know they are not harmful. I think we should learn to be a little more accomodating of the few bugs that find their way into our homes. Often they disappear as quicky as they came. In dealing with adversity, it is important to try to be proactive and not waste energies on what went wrong. The above quote reminds us that life is not a bed of roses. Travel and Earn at the Same Time

When I was little and my friends talked to me about their holiday plans, I would be consumed with envy. I always wondered why it could not be me who was making plans. Why coudn't my family be going away? Being part of a large family was the reason of course! Feeding and clothing us sinply left nothing over to holiday on. How I envied those same friends when they returned from holidays full of talk about what they'd seen and done! I don't look back on this experience, or lack of experience, depending on how you look at it, as having been so bad. After all, a day or so after arriving home, the holiday talk with my peers always died down and life would go on as usual. The reality is that I have made up for that deprivation many times over since. I have been fortunate enough to travel extensively throughout the world. I now live in Australia and I have seen and experienced much of that. All of it I have found exciting and stimulating. Interestingly, my parents eventually travelled too. Now well into her eighties, she can be seen in the central district of Canberra, every Friday night, giving free soup and blankets, not only to the homeless, but to anyone in need. She sees Canberra's student population as a somewhat disadvantaged group, and so they too share in her offerings. To understand more about Stasia, one must first look back many years to when she was much younger. She fled Poland during the occupation in World War Two, losing everything, and arriving in Australia with her husband and two young sons. When her marriage failed, she was left to care for and rear, her two sons. There is a belief out there, held by many of us, that people who are wealthy have become so by deceitful means. It's embedded in our psyche. Whether we like it or not, it's true to say that we don't tend to credit these people with hard work, tenacity, determination, acute business acumen, or just plain good luck. Do you recall as a child when you asked your parents for something, they'd sarcastically say things like: Do you think we have a money tree in our garden? Or: So when exactly did we come into money? I don't know about you, but these responses certainly left me thinking that I should never expect to be wealthy, and that I should be grateful for whatever I have. Sad, isn't it!
