Assam State information Guide - India

Assam's history goes back to the ancient times. The base of this history can be found in Vedic literature, Tantric literature, Assamese folklore and Buddhist literature.

However, first reference of Assam is found in the epics and the religious legends. The Aryans belonging to the priestly (brahmin) and warrior classes found their way into Assam in very early times. Numerous places referred in the epics, like Mahabharata etc. are now identified with sites in this state.

Known as 'Kamarupa' or 'Pragjyotish' in the period of the Epics, Assam is inhabited by human civilisation since about 2000 BC. The people of Assam consists of the migrants from Burma and China. They settled in Assam after the mongoloid migration. Mongoloids came from Punjab through Bihar and North Bengal. Henceforth, Assam presents a blend of Mongol-Aryan culture. It is believed that, the early history of Assam belonged to be of the Varman dynasty. The reign of this dynasty extended from 400 AD to 13th century. Huien Tsang is said to have visited Assam during the rule of Kumar Bhaskar Varman in the 7th century BC.

Andhra Pradesh is not just another place, it is another time. The state comprises the erstwhile Hyderabad state and bits of former Madras Presidency. However the spirit of its last ruler Nizam Osman Ali Pasha still lingers on there. The state is so much a part of his diverse and mystifying personality which was an enigma to his subjects as well as to the outsiders. Andhra Pradesh, the fifth largest state of India is drained by thirty-four rivers - the largest of them are Krishna and Godavari. Its recorded history goes back to Mauryan period. Successive dynasties of the Ikshvakus, Pallavas, Chalukyas, Vijaynagar Kings, Qutab Shahis, Mughals and Asaf Jahis have added to state's rich history and culture with monuments, temples, mosques and heritage in arts, crafts and dance.
Rivaling this vividness is the beauty of the landscapes, stalagmite and stalactite caves, river plunging headlong in breath taking gorges, large lakes impounded between verdant hills, dense forests teeming with wild life and gigantic boulders of queer formation poised on hairline contact with bedrock. **End Summary** Topics: andhra pradesh Bidri Kamalkari Kondapalli Durgi Allagadda Ti
About the Author:
Travel expert from India offering holiday ideas

VARANASI - It is believed that those who die in Varanasi will be released from the cycle of rebirth.
Museums in India

The major cities and historical sites – those which visitors are most likely to want to see have been selected, and the important museums in these places are described. The four cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta and Chennai are dealt with first, as these are usual entry points in India for the foreign visitor. Then, in alphabetical order, other Indian cities with important or interesting museums are introduced.
Most museums in India have an incredibly large collection of objects, ranging from paintings, sculptures, manuscripts and textiles to metal ware, glass, armory and jewelery. Apart from the variety in forms, the objects are each representative of a distinct phase or historical period, from among an accumulation of more than 5,000 years of Indian history. For this reason, one or two aspects or galleries of a particular museum have been singled out for description in greater detail. For instance, for the Indian Museum at Calcutta, a fuller account has been given of early Buddhist sculpture, with only brief mention being made of the treasures of medieval Hindu sculpture that one can also see in this museum. **End Summary** Topics: Museums In India india museums tour india museums india muse
About the Author:
Travel writer from India.
