Trakker Bivvies - What to Look For in a Bivvy

Carp fisherman that fish overnight sessions by the lakeside will no doubt treasure a good quality fishing bivvy tent to keep out the downpour and wind that the UK and Europe inevitably dishes out whilst we are fishing. If an angler becomes wet, freezing and uncomfortable whilst fishing they will shortly give up and go back home.

Bivvy design has considerably improved in modern years and the manufacture quality gets better and better with many new advancements in fabric quality, frame and feature innovation and weight decrease so now the fisherman doesn´t necessarily need to spend a big amount of cash on a shelter or fish through the night under a flimsy brolly whilst fishing.

Fisherman who still fond of an umbrella based shelter which can very useful if you intend fishing in a tight swim will be pleased that they have now become wider and more oval in shape and many include sides which halt a lot of the wind and rain coming in from the sides. The centre pole can now be removed leaving area for a bedchair, holdalls and other kit. **End Summary** Topics: trakker fishing bivvy bivvies tent shelter umbrella brolly
About the Author:
If you are looking to compare the Trakker bivvy range then a good resource is: Trakker Bivvy

Head Torches: Almost 100 Years of Innovation

From mining to medicine, head torches are one of the most common sense inventions in the history of modern technology. Ever since man acquired the ability to control illumination, the development of the head torch was only a matter of time.

In the 1900s, these head torches gradually became popular for other uses besides providing light for miners. The ability to angle light where it was required by simply pointing one's head made these hands-free head torches invaluable in surgery and dentistry. Auto mechanics, plumbers, cave explorers, campers and rescue workers also benefited from this practical device, which increased efficiency and reduced accidents and injuries.

For many years, these head torches required a separate battery pack that was heavy and had to be carried on one's back. In 1973, climbing and caving enthusiast Fernand Petzl developed an innovative head torch design that was lighter and more compact than other models that existed at that time. Instead of being a separate device that had to be attached to a hat or helmet, the illuminating component was permanently attached to an elastic strap to be worn around one's head. **End Summary** Topics: head torch head lamp head light petzl fishing camping outdoors caving climbing
About the Author:
An excellent resuorce for finding out more about head torches visit ==> Head Torch

Paintball: Load, Focus, Eliminate!

In 1976, Hayes Noel, Bob Gurnsey and Charles Gaines were walking home talking about Gaines' buffalo hunting experience in Africa. They wanted to recreate the adrenaline rush of hunting so they came up with the idea of stalking and hunting each other. They used a gun called the "Nel-spot 007", a gun used by farmers to mark trees and livestock ' the gun fired paint. This was the start of the paintball revolution.

As the game became more widely known around the country, Bob Gurnsey formed a contract with the Nelson Paint Company. They became their distributor of paintball equipment; it then became licensed to sell guns, paint and goggles. Only six months down the line, they had already made a net profit.

The early games weren't anywhere near as advanced as the games today; they often threw paintballs at each other as the only gun was the Nel-spot and it only held ten rounds and had to be re-cocked after every shot. They only had goggles that left their faces exposed as face masks had not yet been created. **End Summary** Topics: paintball paintballs paint ball paintballing paintballers
About the Author:
Find out more about paintball at ==>

Photovoltaics - How Does Solar PV Work?

Solar photovoltaic systems are a fantastic way of generating clean electricity for your home, all year round, but how do they work?

How does a solar PV cell generate electricity? At the heart of a solar PV system are photovoltaic cells: devices which are capable of converting light into an electric current. These photovoltaic cells do the 'clever bit' of transforming the sun's energy into electricity, but they are quite delicate. Please read the links for more detailed information on this. Because of this, they are combined by a manufacturer into PV modules (or panels), which protect the cells from moisture and mechanical damage.

How does the electricity spread through the home? The electricity produced by solar panels is a particular type of electricity known as DC - 'direct current'. However, we use a different type in our homes, known as AC - 'alternating current'. To convert the electricity into the required form, we use an additional device, called an inverter. The inverter constantly monitors the electricity coming in from the national grid, and then modifies the DC produced by the solar panels to match it perfectly. **End Summary** Topics: photovoltaics solar solar panels green environment pv heating systems
About the Author:
If you would like to find out more about Photovoltaics and solar PV technology visit ==> photovoltaics

5 Questions Most People Ask When Considering a Solar Photovoltaic System

Photovoltaics are becoming more an more popular with householders wishing to reduce their carbon footprint and save on energy bills. We ask 5 questions most people have when considering a solar photovoltaic system.

Where on my home will the PV panels be installed? As we are in the Northern Hemisphere, a south facing roof will receive the most sunlight - the perfect home for solar has a roof orientated somewhere between South West and South East, with a 30 degree slope and no shading. For homes that do not have a south facing roof, east-west splits are quite common, and will produce roughly 85% of the energy a south facing roof will. EvoEnergy's engineers will assess your home, help choose the panels and design a bespoke panel layout, so you can be assured you will use your roof space to its full potential.

Is my home in a suitable location for solar PV? Solar PV is appropriate for homes in most urban and rural locations in the UK. The amount of energy received from the sun does vary across the UK - but it not by a large amount. **End Summary** Topics: photovoltaics pv solar energy green issues heating thermal
About the Author:
If you would like to find out more about photovoltaics visit: ==> photovoltaics

Head Torches: Revolutionizing Efficiency

The head torch is one of the most practical and helpful inventions of our time. It has permanently transformed many hobbies and industries, maximizing efficiency and lowering the incidence of error and injury.

The very first battery operated, head mounted portable light was specifically designed for miners, who routinely risked life and limb during the course of their work. The combustible and noxious gases that could unexpectedly surface in mine shafts posed a deadly hazard when exposed to the open lamps that were the only source of light to miners at that time. The battery powered head mounted lamp greatly reduced the threat of explosions because there was no open flame. Productivity increased as well, because the miners did not have to periodically stop working in order to move lamps down the passages.

Another industry that truly benefits from utilizing head torches in the course of duty is the health care industry. In surgery, the ability to clearly and easily see every minute detail substantially reduces the margin for error, thus increasing the rate of successful procedures. **End Summary** Topics: head torch head lamp head light petzl outdoors fishing climbing caving cycling
About the Author:
If you want a good resource for finding out more about head torches you may wish to visit ==> Head torches

Carp Fishing Rod Pods - Advice on Making the Right Choice

Most carp anglers today use multiple rod set ups when fishing for any length of time, this enables the angler to try many different areas, baits and rigs at the same time. To get round the problem of carrying many separate banksticks around fishing tackle designers developed the rod pod which is capable of holding up to four rods depending on the bars being used and will also hold the required bite alarms, indicators and butt grips for each rod.

Most modern rod pods have adjustable buzzer bars and legs so the angler can direct the rods to the desired angle whether it be rod tips pointing level or downwards if using back leads or slack lines or beach caster style with tips pointing skywards to avoid weed, snags or underwater features.

A rod pod is also useful if it is necessary to fish from wooden staging because of reedy or shallow margins or if your fishery has hard gravelly banks like many of the gravel pits in the south of England. Another advantage of using a rod pod is the time it saves when setting up and packing away your tackle. **End Summary** Topics: rod pod rod pods fishing tackle carp
About the Author:
If you want to find out more about rod pods, models, manufacturers and prices visit ==> rod pods

Dunkerque is the northernmost French ferry port, only six miles from the border of Belgium. The third largest harbour in France, Dunkerque is popular with surfers, windsurfers and kayakers. Less touristy than some of the other French ports, Dunkerque is mostly industrial, producing a substantial portion of France's oil and steel products.

South of Dunkerque is the port of Calais. Calais is one of the oldest and most popular ports for ferries to France via the English Channel. Only one hour and fifteen minutes from the port of Dover, Calais is also the closest port to the U.K. Like most of the towns on France's west coast, partially demolished and restored medieval buildings and permanent reminders of World War II abound. Calais is also a gateway to many small and fascinating French towns.

Another popular and well-established ferry port in France is Boulogne. Also reputed to be the largest fishing seaport in France, Boulogne has a great selection of seafood restaurants to choose from. Preserved and renovated, Boulogne's old walled medieval town contains churches, museums, palaces and restaurants just waiting to be explored. **End Summary** Topics: ferry ferries france dover channel tunnel cruise eurostar
About the Author:
If you need to find out more about deals on ferries, routes and destinations in france, visit ==> ferry to france

Fishing Bivvies - Why Not Have Some Comfort On The Bank?

Carp anglers that spend overnight sessions on the by the lakeside will no doubt appreciate a good quality fishing bivvy tent to keep out the rain and wind that the UK and Europe inevitably dishes out whilst we are fishing. If an angler becomes wet, cold and uncomfortable whilst fishing they will soon give up and go home.

Bivvies have considerably improved in design and build quality in recent years with many new improvements in frame design, fabric quality and weight issues so now the angler does not need to spend a fortune on a shelter or spend a night under a flimsy umbrella whilst fishing as many of our predecessors.

For anglers who still prefer an umbrella type bivvy which can very useful for squeezing into compact swims the new designs have now become a wider, more oval shape and can include storm sides which stop some wind and rain coming in from the sides. The centre pole can now be removed leaving room for a bedchair, holdalls and other kit. **End Summary** Topics: bivvy bivvies fishing tent shelter umbrella brolly brollies
About the Author:
If you want to find out more about fishing bivvies, manufacturers, models and prices visit ==> bivvies

Take a Ferry to France in Style and Comfort

Up until the early 1800s, clippers, schooners and other kinds large boats were the only means of transportation across the English Channel. Unfortunately, these vessels tended to be uncomfortable and dangerous as the sailing ships of that time were designed for cargo and war. Torn sails, broken masts and shipwrecks were a regular occurrence due to the strong winds and waters of the Channel. The strength of the wind, or lack thereof, also played a major influence in the length and comfort of the journey. Seasickness was very common too.

Furthermore, early sailing ships had to drop their anchors out in the harbors or in deeper waters offshore. Passengers had to transfer to smaller boats in order to reach the ports. The ever changing ocean tides also posed a challenge, as ships could only enter harbors at high tide to avoid damage to their hulls. Accurate schedules were impossible to maintain because of this. Travel by sailing ship was also quite costly. Because of this, channel crossings were mainly limited to wealthy people, missionaries, soldiers and sailors.

In 1820, a French company purchased two paddle steamer ships to carry mail and cargo between Calais, France and Dover, England. **End Summary** Topics: ferry ferries france dover calais boulogne english channel eurotunnel
About the Author:
For more information on booking your trip across the channel, visit: ==> ferries to france

Gym memberships can be expensive, and you often get stuck in lengthy contracts that are nearly impossible to break.
It can also get tiresome remembering to go. Walking, jogging and running can be great, if you don't mind the unpredictability of seasonal temperatures and the weather.

Because swimming is an aerobic exercise, it is also excellent for improving and maintaining cardiovascular health. Swimming is also a great treatment for stress and anxiety.

However, not everyone is lucky enough to have access to a Unfortunately, not everyone has access to a body of water or a swimming pool. Public swimming pools have limited hours and are not always very sanitary. It can be costly to maintain and build private swimming pools. They also require an expanse of land, building permits and major excavation. Large amounts of unpleasant chemicals, such as chlorine, are necessary to keep them free of dangerous bacteria. Moreover, traditional swimming pools cannot be used during colder months unless they are heated, which can be expensive.

Through modern technology and extremely creative minds, you can overcome these obstacles and still manage to swim in the privacy and comfort of your home. **End Summary** Topics: endless pools endless swimming pools endless pool endless swimming pool
About the Author:
Interested in getting an endless swimming pool?, visit ==> endless swimming pools

Grab a Ferry to St Malo, a Popular French Destination

Located in the Brittany region of northwestern France, St. Malo is an ancient walled port city that was once home to pirates, privateers and corsairs in the 17th and 18th centuries. Since then it has become the most popular tourist destination in Brittany, almost doubling in population during the summer months.

The most pleasant and stress free way to travel is via the Portsmouth to St. Malo ferry. It is less expensive and more convenient than flying and you can bring your own car. The ferries operate throughout the day and night. During the day, the Portsmouth to St. Malo ferry takes approximately nine hours. The overnight St. Malo ferry trip takes a little longer, crossing the English Channel in about eleven hours.

Regardless of the time of day or night you choose to travel to St. Malo, there are many things to do aboard the trip from Portsmouth. Ferries vary widely in size and weight, but because of the duration of this particular voyage, the larger ferries are more commonly used. These larger ferries are equipped with a number of comfortable cabins in various sizes and price ranges.

For dining, most ferries offer several choices. **End Summary** Topics: portsmouth st malo ferry ferries English channel channel tunnel
About the Author:
If you are planning a trip across the English Channel to St. Malo in the near future a good resource for comparing routes and ferry operators, visit ==>

Boulogne, France, also known as Boulogne-sur-Mer, is a fascinating place to visit on holiday and is easy to get to with a Dover to Boulogne ferry. A small port city in the region of Nord-Pas de Calais in northern France, Boulogne has a population of approximately 45,000 and has existed for about two thousand years. Boulogne is also the birthplace of the inventor of the propeller (Frédéric Sauvage) and the largest port for seafood in France.

Whether you prefer to stay in a hotel, a bed and breakfast, a guest house, a youth hostel or go camping, Boulogne's accommodations are for the most part decent and reasonably priced. Although seafood restaurants are numerous in Boulogne, there are also cafes, pizzerias and patisseries.

The largest fromagerie in France is also located in Boulogne (Philippe Olivier's) and offers an amazing selection of cheeses including Vieux Boulogne, reputed to be the smelliest cheese in the world. This cheese is very difficult to find anywhere else and there is only one place in the entire U.K. that sells it. **End Summary** Topics: dover boulogne ferry ferries English channel channel tunnel eurotunnel eurostar
About the Author:
Need a good resource for comparing routes, ferries and train operators across the English Channel, visit ==>

Photovoltaics - The Future of Electricity

Photovoltaics are the wonderful science of generating electricity directly from sunlight. The stronger the light the more electricity is produced with the peak output in full clear sunshine, however PV arrays still produce useful quantities of electricity in cloudy weather. Light is composed of particles called photons and in 1839 Edmund Becquere l discovered that when photons of light strike two thin layers of silicon, which is a natural semiconductor, electrons are released and flow from one layer to the other, thus producing electricity.

With the advent of space travel in the 1950's millions of dollars was spent in research into the commercial production of PV cells for powering satellites and space stations. This research has lowered the price of cells down to a reasonable level, which makes them cost effective for electricity generation to power domestic homes.

PV cells 150mm square are built up into panels usually around 1300mm x 1000mm and these panels are built up into arrays to generate the required power. The average PV array for a domestic property will be 10 panels giving a peak power of 1.8 kW covering an area of 13. **End Summary** Topics: photovoltaics photovoltaic pv solar panel solar panels solar energy solar power
About the Author:
If you'd like to find out more about PV solar panels visit pbrowne.co.uk via the link below ==> Photovoltaics

Photovoltaic Solar Energy: A Wise Investment for the Future

Solar energy and photovoltaic technology are common household words and have been for quite some time now. Everyone wants to go solar, and they want to do it now. Just the thought of having a continually renewing source of totally free energy that causes absolutely no pollution has given many home and business owners dreams and ambitions of having photovoltaic systems of their very own. Photovoltaic solar energy systems have a number of advantages over traditional energy sources such as oil, gas, coal and electricity.

Photovoltaic PV systems are a great investment and will more than pay for themselves over time and with all the money saved by not using traditional fossil fuels and electricity. Although there is some initial expense in establishing a photovoltaic solar energy system, it is generally a one-time cost. After the main system is set up, only occasional maintenance and replacement of parts is required. High monthly electric and fuel bills will be a part of the past.

The price of nonrenewable fossil fuels and traditional electricity supply will continue to rise as they become more and more scarce. Also, the prices of photovoltaic solar energy system components are falling. **End Summary** Topics: photovoltaics photovoltaic solar panels energy pv renewable energy
About the Author:
If you'd like to find out more about Photovoltaics and PV solar panels visit pbrowne.co.uk via the link below ==> Photovoltaics

Top Tips When Buying a Rod Pod

It is normal these days for anglers to use multiple rod set ups when fishing for carp, this enables the angler to try many different spots, rigs or baits at the same time. To solve the problem of carrying lots of separate bank sticks around fishing manufacturers developed the rod pod which is capable of holding up to four rods and the required bite alarms, indicators and butt grips.

Most rod pods have adjustable legs and buzzer bars so the angler can point the rods in the desired direction be it beach caster style with tips pointing upwards to avoid weed, snags etc. or rod tips pointing level or towards the water if using back leads or slack lines.

A Rod pod is also useful if your fishery utilizes wooden platforms because of shallow or reedy margins or if the fishery has rock hard banks like many of the gravel pits in the south of England. Another advantage of using a rod pod is the reduced time it takes to set up and pack away. **End Summary** Topics: rod pod rod pods rodpod fox solar globetrotter quattro jrc nash
About the Author:
If you need a good resource for finding out more about fishing rod pods visit comparerodpods.co.uk via the link below ==>

A Ferry to France - The Most Cost Effective Way Across the Channel

When weighing up the costs and benefits of the different modes of transport across the english channel available from the U.K., ferries to France are clearly the most sensible way to travel. We consider trip length, comfort, convenience and flexibility.

Air travel can be costly, unless you shop around and book ahead. And even if you do find a good deal on a flight, there are additional expenses associated with transportation to and from the airport. The number of airports available you can travel from is limited as well. Security and check-in can be time-consuming and annoying, as can arrival procedures and procuring one's luggage. The number of personal items brought must be limited, due to baggage restrictions. Comfort can be an issue too, as one must remain seated in sometimes cramped and narrow seats for the length of the journey.

Traveling to France by train allows for more flexibility in that you can bring along your car or travel as a foot passenger only. There is also a good selection of departure and arrival locations. Physical movement on trains tends to be less restrictive than on airplanes, as is the number of belongings one can bring. **End Summary** Topics: ferry ferries france dover calais folkstone english channel
About the Author:
If you are planning a trip to france in the near future via ferry or eurotunnel a good resource for comparing prices, fares, and times across the english channel, visit ==> Ferry to France

The Delkim range of bite alarms are now icons amongst today's carp anglers, we follow the conception and development of Delkim from the early Optonic and Heron conversions from the 1970's to the modern vibration based digital bite alarms of today.

The Delkim company was created by two well known carp anglers and bait developers from Kent called Del Romang and Kim Donaldson, after converting friend's Heron and Optonic bite alarms they decided to form a business and brought together their names to form the name, Delkim. The first conversions were created by adding GPO speakers and flashing LEDs to the original Heron antennae type bite indicators, these were soon seen on Kent circuit carp waters like the famous Darenth complex and soon many anglers were asking Del and Kim to convert their bite alarms too.

Things to Consider When Buying a Fishing Bivvy

When purchasing a fishing bivvy they are many factors to consider to suit the individual angler's needs. We give you some top tips to look out for.

Fishing bivvies have considerably improved over the last decade with new improvements in frame design and fabric quality so the angler does not need to spend the night under an old 45" umbrella with their feet sticking out the bottom covered in a bin liner as in days gone by.

For those who still like an umbrella type shelter which are very useful for fitting into small swims they have now become a wider, oval shape and can incorporate storm sides. The centre pole which took up lots of room can now be removed completely leaving plenty of room for a bed chair and other tackle. Most manufacturers now also offer an overwrap option to their umbrellas so you can quickly turn it into a bivvy with a roll up door if required. **End Summary** Topics: bivvy bivvies fishing tents shelters trakker chub fox jrc nash
About the Author:

The History of the Electronic Bite Alarm

The modern day bite alarm is a 'must have' tackle item in the modern day carp angler's kit, in this article we give you a brief run down on its history since the 1950s and how it has shaped the way today's carp anglers fish.

The most famous bite alarm is probably the Optonic manufactured by Efgeeco in the early 1980's, these indicators were the first to use a roller system and revolutionized the way carp anglers fished, they could fish all night without the need to reset the bite alarm and the Optonic also indicated drop back bites too when used in conjunction with a monkey climber or hanger on the line. The only problem anglers at the time had with the Optonics were that they were far too quiet so some innovative anglers began to convert them with telephone GPO speakers to make them louder, two anglers called Del Romang and Kim Donaldson were such innovators in this field and started converting Optonics for friends then commercially and the now famous bite alarm company called Delkim was formed, their converted Optonics became the standard on most carp waters up and down England. **End Summary** Topics: bite alarm bite alarms bite indicator sounder box delkim fox micron eos steve neville atts
About the Author:
If you want to find out more about bite alarms, manufacturers, models, functions and prices visit comparebitealarms.com via the link below ==>

When first released in July of 2009, the Rubik's 360 puzzle game was practically sold out in the very first week. Now with Christmas approaching, the Rubik's 360 is anticipated to be a top selling Christmas toy.

The original Rubik's Cube was a 3 x 3 x 3 cube with six colours (one for each of the six faces) and the aim is to make each of the sides all the same colour. Frustrating yet addicting, the Cube became an international success and prompted the creation of Rubik's Cube clubs and competitions throughout the world. There have also been many Cube competitions requiring the participants to solve the puzzle while while blindfolded, looking into a mirror, and even while totally intoxicated.

Throughout the years, different variations and copies of the popular and fun Rubik's Cube puzzle game were introduced, including the Junior (2 x 2), Revolution,Sudoku Puzzle, USB stick, Brain Racket, Touch, 4 x 4 Cube Hex and 5 x 5 Cube Hex. There are even computer adaptations of the original Cube puzzle game.

In July of 2009 a totally new and different puzzle game was released, called the Rubik's 360. **End Summary** Topics: rubik's 360 rubicks 360 rubiks 360 rubix 360 rubik 360 rubick 360
About the Author:
If your thinking of purchasing the Rubix 360 and need a good resource, visit ==> Rubix 360

Prone To Air or Sea Sickness? Take The Eurotunnel to France

In the old days, the only way to travel from the U.K. to France was by airplane or boat. Those with fragile constitutions were doomed, especially given the typically rough waters of the English Channel. The construction of the Channel Tunnel, with the convenient options of Eurotunnel or Eurostar, spared many this disagreeable experience.

The first go at turning this idea into a reality was finally started in the mid-1800's, only to be stopped by political turmoil. In the 1970's economic troubles brought the second attempt to a standstill. The third attempt, started in 1988, was successful. Despite the financial, political and technical challenges, the Channel Tunnel was finally completed in 1994.

Though completely funded by private investors, the Channel Tunnel was considered a financial disaster by many, because the cost and debt associated with it ended up being much higher than originally anticipated. On the positive side, the completion of the Channel Tunnel provided competition with the other available modes of transportation, causing travel prices to lower and thus be more affordable for travelers. **End Summary** Topics: eurotunnel eurostar channel tunnel chunnel dover folkstone calais france english channel
About the Author:
Need a good resource for comparing Eurotunnel prices?, visit ==> Eurotunnel

There are many good bird insurers in the market and the internet is a good place to find one that offers the cover you need, just search for 'bird insurance'.
