Satellite Internet - Social Impacts of Broadband Internet

With the proposed Broadband Stimulus plan, set forth by the Federal Government to enable rural areas of the country to have access to high-speed Internet services. An old fear has arisen, the erosion of community interactions in small town America. The theory was always that community involvement and participation would be lost forever as end users sought out their own virtual communities of shared interest over the Internet.

After a decade of research, however, just the opposite appears to be true. Studies have shown that Internet use increased civic engagement and community participation. In fact the concern now is that those with dial up services are being left out of community activities as it is a greater challenge for them to access information, through slow unreliable dial-up connections.

Satellite Internet seems to be the logical platform to enable rural customers to receive high-speed Internet access, because of the way it is delivered. Cable and DSL providers would most assuredly have already supplied services in many rural areas, had they deemed it financial advantageous. The fact is, they don't and Satellite Internet offers the opportunity for all rural homes to have reliable high-speed service. **End Summary** Topics: Satellite Internet Broadband Internet Broadband Stimulus
About the Author:
Satellite TV and Satellite Internet are my passions.

Rural Broadband Internet's Effect On Small Town Economies

The Government's commitment to providing high-speed Internet connections to rural America through the Federal Broadband Stimulus program, may have a positive economic effect for customers accessing newly born services. However, the effect on rural businesses may not be so positive.

It is not an unfamiliar fact that customers of rural businesses usually pay more for the same products and services that mainstream Americans do. The reasons are numerous, and in many cases justified. Smaller customer bases and higher costs to receive goods or deliver services are a big contributor to higher costs for rural consumers.

Imagine for a moment that instead of dial up Internet access, rural citizens had access to a high-speed Broadband Satellite Internet connection. Faster and easier access to information, would assuredly empower customers to seek lower costs through on-line shopping. The need for many farmers, ranchers or just ordinary rural dwellers, to trudge off to the local emporium for food, feed, tools, etc., would be greatly diminished and small rural business may eventually suffer irreversible consequences.

You won't find many arguments against technological advancement here and the prospect of rural high-speed Internet access is both exciting and necessary for that long ignored customer base. **End Summary** Topics: Rural Broadband Internet high-speed Internet Federal Broadband Stimulus
About the Author:
Satellite TV and Satellite Internet are my passions.

Satellite Internet - Service Sector Oppotunities In The Internet Economy

Over the last several decades the service sector has experienced the most employment growth in the United States. This sector is especially conducive for Broadband applications. Services makes up roughly 50% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and is ripe with opportunities for rural Americans that have access to Broadband Internet connections.

The growth of this sector has increased businesses productivity and in many cases globalized its marketplace. Information technology and the service sector are the primary drivers of economic growth. The result of this has led to increasing private service sector exports and imports. Unfortunately U.S. businesses export more services than they import. That has created a problem for both businesses and American workers seeking opportunities. When polled most businesses in the states admitted that most of their service jobs go overseas for two reasons; one being the ability to find an abundance low-wage workers, for jobs such as call center reps and the lack of Broadband access for rural workers, who are primarily the people seeking the work. The lack of Broadband access is also putting high-wage jobs, like software development, at risk of going overseas as well. **End Summary** Topics: Satellite Internet Internet Broadband Federal Broadband Stimulus
About the Author:
Satellite TV and Satellite Internet are my passions.

WildBlue Satellite Internet - The Broadband Satellite Leader

On June 11, 2009 WildBlue revealed the future of Broadband Satellite Internet with a hands-on demonstration of its "next generation" satellite capabilities in the Washington D.C..

The demonstration showcased download speeds of 18 Mbps, nearly 12-times faster than satellite internet providers current capabilities. Members of Congress got to compare than enhanced Wild Blue speeds with their current service. Why was Congress involved, you might ask. Because WildBlue provides high-speed Satellite Internet access to nearly 400,000 Americans in rural parts of the United States, that currently have no other options, other than dialup service available to them.

Congress believes that access to high-speed Internet provides Americans with; increased access to information and technology, which will lead to more Internet commerce, education, news, and social interaction. What is a good thing for its citizens, will most assuredly to be for the government.

The United States Departments of Commerce and Agriculture will provide $7.2 billion in federal stimulus funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, in a inititaive to provide universal broadband access to all customers, regardless of how rural.

So, why Satellite Internet and not cable or DSL. **End Summary** Topics: WildBlue Satellite Internet Broadband Satellite high-speed Internet
About the Author:
Frank helps people understand if Dish Network 's Offers are right for them.
Satellite Internet - A Review of Satellite Internet Service

Satellite Internet is one of the fastest growing Broadband Internet solutions in the United States. There are two main Satellite Internet Service Providers for residential customers, HughesNet and WildBlue. When compared side by side, Wild Blue, with its lower upfront and monthly costs and aggressive promotions, is hands down the elite choice for Satellite Internet Access.

Satellite Internet Connections offer the same quality of Internet as DSL and cable companies, but are available to customers in rural areas, where cable and DSL do not venture and dialup ISP's are the only option. With Satellite Internet Companies competing for customers that cable and DSL don't want, the promotions have been getting more and more aggressive, which is good news for consumers.

For rural Internet users who have been forced to endure slow dialup ISP's and as a result have been deprived of all the Internet can offer, such as, fast access to information, quick downloads and instant email deliveries, Satellite Internet could be just the thing to get you back in the game. **End Summary** Topics: satellite internet satellite internet service satellite internet providers satellite internet access satellite internet service providers
About the Author:
Satellite TV and Satellite Internet are my passions.

Satellite TV Fact And Fiction

Satellite TV, just the mentioning it, elicits many responses. Some are fearful that Satellite TV will not operate as well as cable, some folks get excited because of the cutting edge technology behind it and others remain neutral. With all of the claims against, by cable and for, by the satellite providers, sorting out fact from fiction can be a tricky business, but let"s give it a try.

Cable is available to about 89% of all households in the United States. There are areas in every state in the country where cable will not provide infrastructure, because not enough people populate those given areas, therefore, not a moneymaker for them. Satellite TV is available everywhere. The only requirement is a clear view to the southern sky and you are in business.

All cable companies offer local television programming through affiliate feeds from ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox and PBS. Currently Dish Network offer local channels to all but 29-local markets, roughly 94% of the country, while DIRECTV offer locals to all but 58-local markets, approximately 89% of U.S. households.

The notion that satellite television is notoriously unreliable is also false. **End Summary** Topics: Satellite TV cable United States ABC NBC CBS Fox PBS Dish Network
About the Author:
Satellite TV and Satellite Internet are my passions.

Understanding Satellite Internet Access

Satellite Internet services are used in every location in the United States were DSL and Cable Internet is not available and customers need an always on, fast Internet service that dial-up ISP"s can"t provide.

Although there are some technical issues for end users to be aware of, such as latency, this only affects customers seeking to play real-time interactive games online. Signal loss due to precipitation is extremely minimal and the service is up to 30-times faster than dialup Internet providers and considerably more reliable.

Latency is caused when the request for data is transmitted from your satellite modem to the satellite orbiting the earth and then returned. The delay is approximately half a second, not noticeable if you are browsing the Internet, reading email or even downloading. It can however cause significant headaches to customers trying to use applications like VOIP, VPN and video conferencing.

Another way satellite Internet differs from cable, DSL or dialup is the use of a Fair Access Policy, a device put in place to guarantee that every end user can download a pre-determined amount of files, using an allotment of bandwidth, without affecting other users. **End Summary** Topics: Satellite Internet Access DSL VOIP VPN satellite Internet cable
About the Author:
Satellite TV and Satellite Internet are my passions.

WildBlue Satellite Internet

If you are living in rural America, you"ve probably seen the ads, received the mailings and considered looking into it "" especially if you have been struggling to accomplish things online with a dialup Internet provider. Hopefully the information to follow can save you some trouble and help you decide if satellite Internet and WildBlue is right for you.

WildBlue began testing satellite Internet service for residences in June 2005. Since then the Colorado based company has grown to more than 400,000 subscribers. During the summer of 2005 WildBlue signed agreements with two national companies, RS&I and DSI Systems, to recruit, manage and train a nationwide for of dealers. The target demographic for the service is rural America throughout the 48-contigous states. Seeking customers who have no access to either cable or DSL providers.

WildBlue has gained increasingly more customers and popularity through superior performance in terms upload, download, reliability and price. WildBlue"s technological advantage over its competitors is due to the use of Ka band satellite technology rather than the more established Ku band used everyone else. This technology allows WildBlue to cover service areas with spot beams rather than a single large beam. **End Summary** Topics: WildBlue Satellite Internet DSL ViaSat Vonage Satellite TV Google
About the Author:
Satellite TV and Satellite Internet are my passions.

Satellite Internet - An Investment in Education

You wouldn't paint a house with a toothbrush, or cut a tree down with a steak knife, so why would you ever attempt to educate yourself online with a dialup Internet service. In all three instances, way too slow and, more importantly, not the right tool for the job.

Anyone who has, or is attempting to earn a degree or certification will tell you, education is an investment toward a brighter future. The costs of housing, books, tuition, student loans and supplies have driven more and more students to the Internet. School is hard enough without the constant fight to get connected, stay connected, only to endure the painfully long waits to access information on the Internet though a dialup connection. Satellite Internet can provide students with an always on, reliable and more importantly fast Internet service. With Satellite Internet you can access the information you need and even download up to 30-times faster than dialup connections, for a cost that rivals most DSL services. Better yet, Satellite Internet doesn't use a phone line, so you won't be cut off from the world while you learn. **End Summary** Topics: Satellite Internet high speed Internet connection eLearning Distance Learning
About the Author:
Satellite TV and Satellite Internet are my passions.

Satellite Internet - A Fast Growing Solution to Dial-Up

Are you in a rural area in the United States, where cable or DSL Internet services are not available? Have you had to suffer through long waits to connect to your dial-up service only to have your connection drop? Have you had to add another phone line to your home because you have a dial-up Internet provider - or - do you just let your phone line go unavailable while you are using the Internet? If you have answered yes to any of these questions - satellite Internet may be the solution for you.

Satellite Internet is growing by leaps and bounds over the past several years. Rural Internet customers are quickly realizing that they are not cornered by the "trailing edge" technology the dial-up ISP's offer. There is a better way to access the Internet and satellite is it.

Satellite Internet provides customers with an always on, lightning fast connection without dial-up delays, disconnections or the use of your phone line. Surf the Internet up to 30-times faster, download with ease, read emails, send pictures, or just browse to your hearts content.

Satellite Internet is available within the 48 continental United States. **End Summary** Topics: Satellite Internet Wild Blue Internet
About the Author:
Satellite TV and Satellite Internet are my passions.

We would all like to take the family to a game, but lets face it, the cost of taking a family of four to a live professional sports event can cripple most family's budgets. Then there is the matter of actually attending the game, dealing with the traffic, missing significant parts of the game to deal with concessions and bathroom needs - and - of course there is always the drunk three rows back who can be heard throughout the stadium, his lesson in vocabulary, probably not the one you want your kids to pay attention to.

For me, there can be no better option than watching the game from the comfort of my own living room. First of all I can actually fit into every seat in the house and they're all comfortable. Caution, when watching alone you may have a tendency to fall asleep, I will address this later. There are no known traffic conditions I am aware of in my home, except for the odd toy on the floor, (my kids are young). Concessions are just a few short strides to the kitchen and as far as bathroom facilities - I have two to choose from. **End Summary** Topics: HDTV Satellite TV DVR Dish Network Sports NFL Network NBA TV NHL Network
About the Author:
Satellite TV and Satellite Internet are my passions.

History on TV - Sometimes Fact is More Entertaining Than Fiction

In March of 2007 an American made action film "300" was released by Warner Brothers. The movie was a fictionalized, dramatization of the historic Battle of Thermopylae fought in 480BC. Although successful, "300" was the 24th largest box office opener in history, the movie was awash in controversy from its production style to its historical accuracy. Critics were split worldwide with some loving it and others hating it - there was seemingly no middle ground with this movie.

"300" opened to the public in Greece to standing ovations and condemnation in Iran. Iranian President Ahmadinejad denounced the film, outraged over the portrayal of the historical identity of Iran. Adding fuel to the controversy, "300" director Zack Snyder, in an MTV interview called the film 90% historically accurate.

In the film the Persians are depicted as a monstrous, semi-human horde of demonic, magical and weak willed beings. The movie even goes so far as to suggest that Persians were prone to pedophilia and portrays their leader Xerxes, played by Rodrigo Santoro, as an androgynous "God King."

As for "300" being historically accurate - an examination of history reveals the movie to be grossly lacking. **End Summary** Topics: History TV
About the Author:
Satellite TV and Satellite Internet are my passions.

Expand Your DVR's Recording and Storage Capabilities

Dish Network DVR's have the most recording and storage space available in the industry. Still, with all of the great programming available these days, the need for more storage space may at some point become an issue. Consider a DVR External Hard Disk Drive as a solution. Dish Network's ViP-Series DVR's are compatible with USB 2.0 hard disk drives. These drives can increase your DVR's storage capacity by more than 400 hours of standard digital recording and nearly 100 hours of high-definition recording.

An external hard disk drive (HDD) makes it possible to save all of your favorites and not be forced to delete a program to make room for more. Dish Network has announced that any future DVR's manufactured will be compatible with this technology, but for now Dish has three models that will work; the ViP612 DVR, ViP622 DVR and the ViP722 DVR.

To get started simply connect a compatible USB 2.0 hard disk drive to a compatible Dish Network receiver. You will be able to view content from the HDD, or transfer content back to the DVR. All major brand name external HDD's sold in stores are compatible. **End Summary** Topics: Dish Network DVR HDD DVR receiver
About the Author:
Satellite TV and Satellite Internet are my passions.

When it Comes to Sports - I'm Blacked Out

Can someone explain to me why it seems almost every professional sports team has either changed their colors, added to their colors or adopted the dreaded alternate uniform, in BLACK!

It is a trend that quite frankly has irritated me for quite some time now. I know I shouldn't be that concerned with such trivial matters as the color scheme of a few pro sports teams, especially in light of all the financial and political chaos in this country, but I am. Sports are about tradition and tradition has always been about building something meaningful and being proud of what you are and where you come from.

I did not reach my level of concern without first trying to understand and adapt to the current trend in pro sports apparel. I considered that black may be slimming and, that alone would be a legitimate reason to adopt the color. However this method of reasoning soon left my mind when I gazed upon Warren Sapp looking just as fat in Raider silver and black as he did in Buccaneer red and pewter. We'll discuss pewter later! **End Summary** Topics: NFL NBA NHL MLB Dish Network
About the Author:
Satellite TV and Satellite Internet are my passions.
