7 Horrible Email Marketing Mistakes That Will Murder Your Profits

Email marketing is one of the most effective online business strategies for generating income. The theory is simple. You build a list of customers that subscribe to your newsletters and updates and you use an autoresponder service to promote your own or other people products.

While the concept is simple it is nevertheless easy to get your email marketing strategy wrong. Make mistakes here and your business may die a slow and painful death.

The 7 mistakes outlines below are mostly common sense but understanding these will be critical to your success as an email marketer.

1) Do not 'stalk' your friends
If you email too much you will soon become a nuisance. If you treat your subscribers like a friend and do not abuse your welcome you are more likely to be rewarded. Imagine you make a new friend. Would you contact them every day, week after week. How long would it take before your friend got fed up of you? You'd become a pest and they would be looking for ways to avoid you very soon, no matter what you are offering. **End Summary** Topics: article marketing email marketing email promotion
About the Author:
Peter Downs is a blogger, internet marketer and addicted scribbler.
How To Start Building Backlinks For Your Blog

There's no doubt that possibly the best way to get traffic to your blog is through backlinks. Getting other sites to link back to your blog is one of the main things that people like Google look for in terms of ranking. But what if you don't have that many readers and your blog is relatively new, how do you start?

One place to start your blog training is simply to start talking to other bloggers in your niche. Sounds simple! But pick bloggers who are in a similar position to you in terms of their size and readership. Establish a relationship with the blog owner and its visitors. In time you'll discover new blog owners and visitors. Take a look at those and start building new relationships with similar blogs.

Soon you'll have a circle of like minded blog owners who are willing to insert links to and from all the 'circle'. This 'compounding' effect can be extremely powerful when it comes to building links and should be essential in your overall blog education. Make sure that you contribute and offer good advice, opinion and service when contributing to other peoples blogs. **End Summary** Topics: blog training blog education linkbuilding backlinks blogging
About the Author:
Peter Downs is a blogger, internet marketer and addicted scribbler.
Blog Training Essentials - The First Steps

Blogging is one of the most effective ways to start an online business. But while many people dream and attempt to build their blogging business, relatively few succeed. Why?

Few people invest in blog training. Most just jump in head first with little thought about their basic goals and objectives for starting in the first place.

Blog training sounds a bit boring and, to some extent, unnecessary. But, in a business sense, blog training should be regarded as the first stage of creating a successful online business.

So what is blog training?

Step 1
Define why you would set up a blog in the first place. What is your purpose and what are your goals? Write these down first. You do need to have a plan otherwise you could drift from one internet marketing product to the next without clear direction for your online business.

Step 2
What features in your blog will help you achieve your goals? DO you need to collect subscribers for a newsletter? Do you want to use affiliate products to earn an income, or Adsense or Amazon/eBay stores? All these decisions are critical before you even contemplate putting your blog together. **End Summary** Topics: blog training blog setup blog education online business
About the Author:
Peter Downs is a blogger, internet marketer and addicted scribbler.
Page Rank - Your Blog Setup Best Friends

If you are in the process of doing your blog setup you need to consider your best friends! Who is going to make you popular for headmaster Mr Google! And don't think that because you have many friends that you will be the most popular. It's who your friends are that counts.

Getting a top page rank with the likes of Google is often seen as make or break for many website owners. If you get on the first page of Google for any particular keyword or phrase then the traffic will come. But what really determines page rank?

The main thing that helps determine how high you come in search engines is the quality of your best friends from other websites. When you receive a link back to your site from another site that is called an 'inbound' link. Google don't care too much about 'outbound' links and neither should you, apart from those going back to your good friends that is!

When I refer to 'quality' of your best friends I mean those inbound links from sites that have high page rank themselves. This is critical in your blog setup planning. **End Summary** Topics: page rank blog setup SEO search engine ranking blogging
About the Author:
Peter Downs is a blogger, internet marketer and addicted scribbler.
Most people know a good website when they see it, and anyone interested in starting to blog in an official online capacity will likely want a sharp looking well designed blog page in which to present their writings. That does not mean that your first blog page will be an embarrassment either.

There are some important things that you can do in the initial blog setup process to create a blog page that will look good. With a free blogging site, which is very popular these days, once you have completed the sign up phase of creating a password and user name as well as picking a name for your blog, you will then need to choose what your page will look like. While not everybody is going to make large sums of cash by speaking their minds in written form, it can be the start of something much more significant. However, money is money, and if you want to try your hand at trying to earn a buck or two by blogging, there are some important steps you need to take when you are doing your initial blog set up.

However, regardless of you want to become the next big writer on the scene or you just have something to say that people would identify with and enjoy, blogging is a great option.

In the past, when it came to writing for the public, a person was relegated to writing in a newspaper or a magazine or a book. If you did not have a job in one of these media outlets, then you were flat out of luck. That was then and this is now, and now there are blogs.

Blogging has become a very popular thing to do. Everyone from the serious writer to the ones that just do it in a weekend warrior capacity can write a blog and post it on the Internet. When blogging first came on the scene, you would likely need a dedicated website to display your blogging skills. A website could often run you a pretty penny both then and now. However, with the advent of blogging sites, a person with something to say will not have to break the bank to get the opportunity to present it to the masses.

Email Marketing Disaster - Don't Let This Happen To You!

Internet marketing promotion through email marketing is a constantly evolving art form. If you have been in the internet marketing world for any length of time you will be familiar with this sort of email (extract from actual email):

"My friend Dave needs your help...

In this video Dave pulls back the curtains on some super secret, ninja tactics, never before taught on finding [subject] deals...

This is truly earth shattering stuff..."

The email is also littered with the word 'FREE' and has a couple of 'call to actions' through an affiliate link.

Now, I am sure I am not alone in my reaction to this kind of email promotion - straight to Trash. Why? In the saturated market that is internet marketing these old style hype promotions are increasingly getting less and less credibility. They are instantly recognizable as straight internet marketing promotions that, inherently, carry no credibility with the experienced reader. But what about the inexperienced reader? Are there clues to help detect the uninformed internet marketing promotion?

Let's examine this real email (I've changed names to protect the guilty!).

First, anything that starts with "My friend... **End Summary** Topics: blog education email marketing
About the Author:
Peter Downs is a blogger, internet marketer and addicted scribbler.
How To Use Article Marketing For Successful Internet Marketing Promotion

There's no doubt about it that article marketing is one of the best, yet often overlooked, methods of internet marketing promotion. It is partly overlooked because of the fear that many people have - putting pen to paper and writing quality articles for publication.

Effective internet marketing promotion is critical for any small business. Despite peoples fears writing articles is not hard if you stick to some basic principles. The four basic 'rules' below will help you get started. Where to start? Well, rule number one:

1) Put pen to paper!
While this may seem too simplistic, if you are fearful or procrastinate about starting your article, just start writing about your business. Do not worry about worry about your title, your ending, even your exact topic. Simply start writing the words that come into your head and would like to tell people about. What is your business about? What service or product do you offer? How do you market your product? Imagine you are talking to your best friend and trying to explain to him/her what you do. The detail of your article and what your internet marketing promotion will look like is not important at this stage. **End Summary** Topics: article marketing internet marketing promotion blogging
About the Author:
Peter Downs is a blogger, internet marketer and addicted scribbler.
