Solving the Problems with Rich Media

Search engines are currently incapable of reading images. Don't think they're not working on this; they are, but for the moment its something many people fall victim to. They use images instead of text for their websites, and as such give Google and other engines less chance to know what their sites are about.

So whats the point of all this? Well, my point is that just because a person can read, listen, or see something that is on your website, that doesn't mean a search engine can do the exact same thing. I've come across many websites where people use images from their print collateral in place of text web pages, and you know? Google and other engines don't have the first clue what that page is about. I've seen embedded copies of interviews from the radio and other types of audio content that don't have anything more than the title of the audio program from the time it was aired. And the search engines have absolutely no clue what that audio program talks about.

So, how do we go about helping the search engines to know what all of our audio, video, and pictures are about? **End Summary** Topics: search engines rich media seo images image seo seo
About the Author:
Noah Dyer is the COO and Director of Internet Marketing for WealthNet Partners.
The Meanings of rel=nofollow.

In this article I may describe things in a little more of a technical fashion than I ordinarily do, but there are several different reasons for this. First, is will show you an example of some of the more technical things you should be keeping up on when trying to give yourself or your clients top search engine placement. Second, it will show you how many people often miss out, or miss the boat, as it were. Lastly, it has a few more practical implications as to how you need to be building your own site and how you should be searching out links from other websites.

Now, not too long ago, Matt Cutts, the head Webspam engineer for Google, posted about the nofollow attribute tag. He posts about it occasionally, as it is an often debated topic. Basically, when you add this nofollow tag (rel="nofollow") to a link it will essentially tell the search engines that while you are providing that link, you are not vouching or endorsing the page it is linking to. What does this mean to you? Well, every page that gets indexed in teh search engines receives a different amount of "voting power". **End Summary** Topics: nofollow seo onpage optimization search engine optimization
About the Author:
Noah Dyer is the COO and Director of Internet Marketing for WealthNet Partners.
