My father continues the story:

The walls of the house were of mud plaster with the ceilings spanned by date palm poles laid flat and woven together by the fronds of the palms. No windows and no doors except the large entrance one which was bolted and barred at sunset and opened again at sunrise. There was no furniture of any kind in the guest rooms except some lovely Persian carpets on the mud floors, and everyone sat on the floor round a brazier put down in the middle of the room. An added bit of discomfort being the smoke from this brazier, which completely filled the room as there was no chimney or outlet of any kind.

Till one got used to this smoke it was almost unbearable, and at first both of us used to spend our time jumping up and going outside to clear our lungs and smarting eyes. Hardly had we been in the house an hour when the most awful storm sprang up. First rain, which did not matter so much, and then wind, and eventually a perfect hurricane. **End Summary** Topics: kleeneze work at home home business work from home work from home jobs legitimate work from home part time work from home work from home opportunities
About the Author:
Michael is a Distributor with Kleeneze, a UK Multi-Level Marketing Company, promoting household products via a catalogue.
My father continues the story:

Later on we discovered that his name was Abdul Hassain, one of the most notorious and most feared bandits of the countryside. A few years ago when the Shah had issued an order for the disarming of some of the more powerful of the peasant heads-men, our friend Abdul had preferred to exile himself rather than give up his guns, and had taken himself and a few faithful followers off to live in the mountains, outlawed for life, and feared by all his neighbours. To us he was one of the most charming characters that we met -also quite the most picturesque, a man of about 40 - 45, tall, and with the good looks of an Arab he made an imposing figure in his flowing robes, belt full of daggers and bright blue and white spotted handkerchief tied round his head. The outlaw-pirate, of one's childhood's imagination, come to life!

We also heard afterwards that the villagers never ceased to wonder at our success with the outlaw, they having quite decided that he would kill us or kidnap us at the very least, and that after this we rose considerably in their estimation.
My father continues the story

They started getting very abusive and tried to force us to put the machine back as before which of course was impossible, and we had our work cut out to prevent them trying to turn it back again themselves. Our own tempers by now were not too good, but we felt they must be kept at all costs, as after all, the odds of three men, two of them with guns, and all with knives, against us two with nothing but a spanner between us were a bit too much of a good thing, and we had no reason to doubt that they would shoot if given the chance.

To get away from their ceaseless grumblings we decided to get into the machine, my father in the front cockpit and Lady Blanche in the back. This however, only made them worse as they wanted to get in themselves, and Haidar after much shouting and gesticulating actually caught hold of the collar of Lady Blanche's coat and tried to pull her out.
My father continued the story:

During Saturday afternoon and while we were sittig in the cockpit trying to get a little sleep, an argument arose which eventually we were drawn into as apparently we were the bone of contention. It seemed that a headsman and his relations from another village had arrived and announced that as the ground that we had landed on was his, it so followed that we too were his property, and that in future he and his village would do the guarding of us.

This of course didn't at all suit our three ruffians whose visions of future wealth from us were fading before their eyes. As it didn't matter to us much who we belonged to we left them to it to fight it out. After at least an hours arguing and shouting, our three were beaten and wandered off across the desert much to our joy, really, as anything was bound to be better than those three blackguards; anyhow it couldn't be any worse.

Our new "owner" then cleared off all our audience, his object being, as we soon realised, to have a nice private talk to us about money.
My Father continued the story:

At first we thought he was merely asking for money, but by degrees, mostly by signs, we gathered that there were bandits, bad men or robbers in the hills around who would come down during the night and cut off our ears and hands (most graphic and realistic signs for all this) if they didn't stay and guard us all night with their guns, and of course we would pay them at the same time.

Our dilemma was to decide how much of this was truth or fiction (we had heard stories of bandits in Persia certainly), and also which was the greater danger to us, these three more or less known ruffians, or the unknown, and perhaps mythical bandits. Being unarmed ourselves we suggested a possible solution that they hired us their two guns and left us to defend ourselves, but that did not at all meet with their approval, and we eventually agreed that they should stay after much arguing, and as far as we could see very little chance of getting rid of them in any case.
My father continued the story: Towards evening several of the ruffians offered themselves as our guards for the night, but we didn't like the look of any of them much - the only one we fancied at all was a small man who had fetched us the milk and water. He seemed cleaner than the rest and not so aggressive in manner and speech, though he like the rest could never stop spitting which got on my nerves more than anything.

However, we chose him and he took our £2 and we spent the most peaceful night we'd had up to now. At about 6.30 a.m. on Monday morning and just before it was light we suddenly heard the drone of an approaching aeroplane. We jumped up, the excitement being intense as we were quite certain it was rescuers coming to look for us. Nearer it came, not very high up, but straight for us. We lit a small fire of handkerchiefs and rags soaked in petrol hoping to attract its attention in the half 1ight and make it easier for it to find us, but on it sailed, a large K.L.M.
This is the third part of my father's flight to India with Lady Blanche...... My father continued the story as follows:

However, the crowd allowed us no peace and we were for ever jumping up and shooing them away from the machine which seemed to have an irresistible attraction to their hands, their continual touching, pinching and picking at it being our worst trouble with them all the nine days we were forced to stay there.

However, to get back to this, our first day in the desert, we made out that Hassain would take at least two and a half days to get to Bushire, to deliver our note, and two and a half days more to lead the rescue party back to us with the oil we wanted. As it was then Friday afternoon, we decided that the following Wednesday afternoon was our probable date of rescue - unless, of course, they sent out an aeroplane to look for us, as we had said in our note that where we were was a perfect landing ground.
This was Lady Blanche's first real forced landing and told my father, who she called Oggie, that she had such confidence in his ability to bring them safely down in emergency, that she never had a moment's anxiety.

Directly they had landed, my father said they set about looking for the cause of the trouble and putting it right. Having found it was a small pipe connecting the oil to the pressure gauge, he mended it, and it was not till this was done that they looked round and realised that by then they were surrounded by about a hundred local people, a good many of whom were armed to the teeth with rifles and knives in their belts -a roughish lot, most of them pock-marked, all of them dirty and scantily clothed in a collection of cotton rags tied round their waists with rope - but not on the whole, unfriendly.

My father continued his story

On this Tuesday afternoon our audience became rather excited and started to gaze at a group of newcomers approaching some miles away over the plain. All the people in these parts carried small telescopes in little leather cases slung over their shoulders.

These were trained on the newcomers, and getting more and more excited and with many signs and gesticulations we were given to understand that it was a bad-man bandit who was arriving. Our audience immediately started to melt away, and very soon we two were left alone to receive our visitors, except for the "milkman' and two small boys who stuck to us all the time.

When the party finally arrived we found it consisted of about eight armed men, six of them forming an escort for the chief and his special attendant who walked in the middle. This attendant was carrying a hooded hawk on his wrist, and another carried some dead game, showing that they were returning from some hunting expedition.
In 1934, my father's commission in the RAF ended, and he joined the Bristol & Wessex Flying Club at Whitchurch as an instructor having been a flying instructor in the RAF. His first pupil was Lady Blanche Douglas, the sister of the Duke of Beaufort and the widow of the late George Scott-Douglas. She wanted to learn to fly so she could fly to India in a new Miles Hawk Major she was in the process of buying and wanted my father, Micky, to be her co-pilot.

She thought flying would be cheaper than hunting. She was the guardian of the son of the Maharajah of Cooch-Behar who was attending public school in UK and wanted to take up an invitation to visit his father.

The intention was to follow the route of the 1934 Australia race as far as Calcutta as fuel had been provided by Shell.

By now, Lady Blanche had taken delivery of a Miles M.2F Hawk Major as new, registration number G-ACWY, on 4th September 1934 which she owned until 27th March 1942. She kept the aeroplane at her home address - Manor Farm, Sherston, Wilts although it was maintained at Whitchurch by the Club.

We spent two weeks in Jamaica in January 2004 . We had thought we might hire a car to do some sightseeing. After the drive from the airport we changed our minds. We are, perhaps, critical passengers (what IAM member isn't?) but we are not normally nervous. By the time we arrived at our hotel after a 90 minute drive with what appeared to be a suicidal driver we were somewhat tense. Why?

The road surfaces in Jamaica have to be seen to be believed. There are more pot holes than road surface; the edges of the road are sand and gravel turning to mud very quickly when it rains. As the roads are often only one lane wide vehicles in passing in opposite directions each drive with one set of wheels on the 'verge'.

If a driver wants to overtake he adopts a confrontational position in the middle of the road; the driver in front moves on to the verge - as does the driver of the oncoming vehicle (there always is one!)- the overtaking driver then becomes the sandwich in the middle in a rough road with pot holes.

Animals are seen grazing by the roadside frequently.

Some years we wrote an article about our dilemma in choosing a new (to us) car. After visiting lots of showrooms and test driving a couple of cars we ended up with a nine month old Peugeot 406 estate with 9000 miles on the clock. It did us very well, doing sterling service towing the caravan, long journeys to the south of France, acted as a load carrier to the tip (sorry, Household Waste Disposal Site or Dechetterie in France), and as delivery van for our business amongst its other roles.

However, although in diesel terms it was only just run in at 144,000 miles we felt it was time for a change. The cam belt would be due for a change, at the 10- year point the airbags would need replacing and other major work would be due. We thought we would let someone else do it.

The search started for a replacement. We started by consulting 'Honest John', from The Daily Telegraph on Saturday. His top suggestion was a........Ford Mondeo! Oh No, we thought, we can't become Mondeo Man! We would be seen as travelling salesmen or worse.

With my wife Alison, a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, I often try to write an article for their local magazine about standards of driving in countries we visit. So, we arranged in the past a number of trips to Kingston and elsewhere with Frances, a local taxi driver. I had noticed on the trip from the airport signs exhorting drivers to carry out simple actions to promote their road safety and that of others. I had also noticed that some drivers were reckless. I had my digital camera to hand to try and catch some of the signs. Jamaica has a large number of minibuses which ply their trade between the various parishes. Since they are constantly looking for fares, they can stop suddenly without any warning.

The first sign was in Ochos Rios about 30 minutes drive from Runaway Bay. It said " PROTECTIVE DEVICES SAVE LIVES" with a picture of a safety belt and a crash helmet. Motorcylists often do not wear a crash helmet. **End Summary** Topics: kleeneze work at home home business work from home work from home jobs legitimate work from home part time work from home work from home opportunities
About the Author:
For free information contact Alison & Michael Ogden 115 Countess Road Amesbury SP4 7AR Tel 01980 626498

Ten Monster Ways to Get Your Website Working

Our monster tips we have found most useful in the 11 years of using a website

1.Choose a good name relevant to your business and make sure you keep it short. Preferably make the same as a well searched key phrase relevant to you business. We subsequently found that that domains that were very long or used hyphens were not so good.

2. Brand your name and business by having your own name and address on the landing page. Have your telephone number on the website because sometimes people would like to have a chat with you before committing themslves.

3. Use an article submission service to get back links. There are also others such as free guest books around the internet, free classified advertising, other people's websites who will take your link and placing ads through Google such as on Adsense.

4. If you are new to the internet, I suggest getting a website done by a professional. Doing it yourself may save money but if the page takes minutes to load while the site tries to load those snazzy graphics you thought were cool, you have lost a customer who will never go back.

I had worked for Natwest Bank in Cardiff for three and a half years and Bournemouth branches for a year and having passed ny banking exams, I was ready to find more exciting work and higher pay and started to apply to various overseas banks here in UK. I also wanted to find a way of leaving home as I was dependent on my parents for accomodation. I got an acceptance from The Chartered Bank in London and I promptly put in my notice to resign.

In February 1970, I joined my new employer in Bishopsgate London, an international bank, to join their foreign staff, with branches in the Middle East and Far East. I was even provided with accomodation at their hostel in East Molesley and commuted into Bishopsgate from there. I started a series of attachments to various Head Office and London departments for familiarisation. New starters to the foreign staff normally went to Hong Kong for their first overseas assignment.
Your Contact List - The Door to your success in MLM

Onto your Contact List should go everyone you can remember, going back as far as you can, no matter who they are, how long it is since you saw them or how little you know them. Your Contact List is the most important document in your possession: it is the foundation of your business.

Before you start your List, it is Important to understand that you cannot tell beforehand who will or will not be interested and if they do come into your business, who will or will not succeed. The most experienced distributors say that the only way they can tell who will succeed is by who is still with them after six months! Even if someone is not interested in the business, they might know someone who wouid be, or they may become a customer for the product, or they may know someone who would like to look at the products! There is just no way to tell in advance. And that person you rejected as being unsuitable-perhaps they know someone who would be a real star for you! So it is not who you know which matters, It is who they know.

Here be Dragons

Long ago, uncharted territory on maps would bear the legend 'here be dragons'. When I accompanied my mother on a trip to Suffolk back in the early summer I felt I was going into uncharted territory.

Actually, I have been to Suffolk quite recently but only for brief weekend visits for specific purposes. On this occasion, however, we went as tourists to see the sights.

I did the driving in my Peugeot 406 and my mother very ably did the navigating. We went from Abingdon via the M40 and M25, planning to go straight up the M11. However, we didn't fancy sitting in the slow moving traffic between junctions 25 and 27 so we went 'the pretty way' via the A10 and A120 bypassing Hertford and Bishop's Stortford to pick up the M11 higher up. Although we were heading for Stowmarket where we were staying we decided to visit Lavenham to see the Priory and the Guildhall. Lavenham is a very attractive village with half timbered houses and delightful hanging baskets and planters everywhere. We spent so long there that we arrived at Stowmarket in time to dump our luggage and go out for dinner.
A buzz we did not expect in Jamaica - a 1st impression

We had decided to try the Caribbean as a January destination as it is always warm the whole year, the people speak English, the country is stable economically and otherwise, and it offered scuba diving. We tried destinations closer to home such as Eilat, Hurghada, Lanzarote and Tenerife. I was coming to scuba dive whilst Alison was coming to do some sunbathing at the pool. But we discovered a "buzz" that which had not been described in the guide books......

The airport then was nothing like as modern as it is now and by the time we had waited in a tourist minibus for about an hour in the carpark for other passengers, it was already getting dark. We'd arrived from Heathrow on an AirJamaica Boeing 747 flight

The road took us along the edge of the airport and then on a number of occasions it ran alongside the shore on a sort of corniche road. We quickly discovered that the Jamaicans drive like mad, blow their horns a lot, while dodging the potholes of which the old road had plenty. The first town we reached was Falmouth, which seemed rather old and tired.

My Most Memorable Cars -1968 to 1995

My first car was a Mini, which despite it's size was terrific for large people like me. It was passed on to me by my mother in 1968 after she retired from being a Health Visitor. I had it until 1970 when I was sent overseas to work.

On my first overseas assignment in Oman (1970-71), I drove a LWB Mark1 Landrover and it's successor the Mark 2, both of which had plenty of headroom. It was terrific on gravel roads at 60mph. The downside was that it was in the workshop a lot.

Then onto Hong Kong in 1971, where I bought my very first car, admittedly second-hand, a Triumph Herald Convertible which had a super turning circle. I traded that in for a VW Beetle but it was not as memorable as the Triumph. In 1973 to 1975 I was in Indonesia, but did not own a car there, They were provided. However, I was introduced to the Toyota Corolla of which we had a number as office cars. A terrific car. We also had a Holden Kingswood which was terrific to drive.

Ten Tried and Tested ways to get a website working for you

These are tips we have found useful in the 9 years we have been using a website.

1.Choose a good name relevant to your business and make sure you keep it short. We live in UK so we started with .co.uk sites but it is useful to have the .com version as well.

4.
Retailing with a Catalogue - Distribution

Always pack your catalogues the same way and always put your contact details on

PACK CONTENTS

So what goes into a pack?

1 The catalogue, of course; make sure it is clean and decent. No one wants to look at something crumpled and sticky. Make sure your catalogue bag is always clean.

2 Depending on promotions you may have a 'Specialogue' to include. These are provided with every business and retail kit and extra copies can be bought.

3 An order form must be included. Again, a nice fresh one.

4 A day slip telling the customer what day you will be collecting the catalogue. It is essential to state a specific day - 'Tomorrow - or 'In 2 days time' means nothing if a customer has been away for the weekend.

Consequently it looks professional, you can tell immediately whether the book has been looked at, when you cllect it, it stands out from other competitor packs & customers learn to recognise your pack quickly.

PUTTING OUT YOUR CATALOGUES

The average order value per catalogue dropped is £1.00. This is the figure you will achieve on average by random letter boxing. **End Summary** Topics: kleeneze work at home home business work from home work from home jobs legitimate work from home part time work from home work from home opportunities
About the Author:
For free information contact Alison & Michael Ogden 115 Countess Road Amesbury SP4 7AR Tel 01980 626498 http://www.vastincome.com
