         <title>Worst Australian 50cc Scooter Reviews</title>

         <description>I've tried them all. Everything from Vespa, SYM, TBG and even some of the cheap Chinese brands which you've never even heard of and all I can tell you is: be very careful!

It turns out that a scooter is not a scooter. It is not like buying a car. It is more like buying a used car - you never know who is really being honest.

The truth is, in Australia you get a lot of small businessmen bringing in container-loads of "cheap Chinese crap", rather than supreme quality. And keep in mind - some of these scooters are not even remotely safe. I've purchased a bunch of scooters from a mayor distributor in Sydney and found my life in danger while riding around on one of these scooters.

So here is a review of a few scooters I came in contact with over the last year that might give you an idea of what you are getting yourself into.

SYM Classic 

Apparently this scooter was brought into Australia to be an introductory scooter to scooting. A 50cc scooter is built for built-up, flat areas with speed limits of no more than 60km/hr. If you live at a place such as the Gold Coast, it is perfect. Most of the roads are flat, and most of the speed limits don't exceed 60km/hr.

However, if you live in a city like Brisbane, you might want to consider spending that extra bit of cash to get you a 125cc scooter so it can handle those hills with 60km/hr speed zones.

Yes, you read it right! A 50cc scooter will lose speed up the hill. Some might go 35km/hr and some might go 50km/hr no matter if you've derestricted them or not.

And to make things even more complicated, there are 3 types of 50cc scooters. 
 
Type 1 - 2-stroke 50cc scooter. 

When it comes to torque and power, a 2-stroke engine has a lot more guts than a 4-stroke engine. However, this engine runs much like your lawnmower. First off, make sure you change the spark plug each and every time you do the service. To do this you usually need to lift the seat up, undo some nuts and bolts and get to the engine compartment. From there find where the sparks plug is, and change it. 

Make sure you check the engine oil and the oil filter. On most scooters you will find that there are no oil filters that you need to replace. Most are washable, but some take paper filters which you can buy at just about any bike shop.

I live in Surfers Paradise, a major tourist hot-spot. During summer it is packed with tourists, so the traffic jams are becoming worse every year. And even though the legality of passing between the cars is very vague, the other benefits of parking it wherever you want, paying $3 to fill the thing up from empty, or paying around $130 for the rego every 6 months, should make you think if you should be zooming around on a 50cc machine.
