Thermal printers are different from most home printers. They are the kind of printers that can be found in office fax machines or multipurpose printers. They're also getting popular as grocery store and supermarket checkout printers. So, how do thermal printers work? Two ways, actually, even though both ways use a common component, which is heat. The older machines, for example, used heat-sensitive, coated paper called thermochromic or thermal paper. This method is called direct thermal. This causes the coating on the paper to turn black, which produces an image.
