Portable work lights have become extremely popular. Let us understand the working of the portable light system. A portable work light has an outer shell which helps to characterize an aperture in the structure.

The shell is connected with a lens so that it can be used to cover the opening inside it. Inside the outer shell is contained a Printed Circuit Board which is known in short as the PCB.

The Printed Circuit Board has two sides, referred to as the first and second side respectively. The Printed Circuit Board can be operated via the means of a connection with a light emitting diode.

This connection enables light flashing and also allows for a switch which is sensitive to vibrations. This switch is used for controlling the light emitting diode. This motion sensitive switch is affixed on the first side of the Printed Circuit Board.

The Printed Circuit Board is also attached to a strip of metal. Between this strip of metal and the Printed Circuit Board there is a dry battery placed. The dry battery is positioned between the metal strip and the second side of the Printed Circuit Board. **End Summary** Topics: Portable Work Lights Work Lights
About the Author:
Article Written By

Understanding Light Dimmers and How They Work.

Light dimmers can be understood to be a kind of electrical device.

Light dimmers are used to alter and manipulate the level of brightness of light. It is possible to change according to will the intensity of the light being produced by the light source by altering the levels of total power being provided to the lighting appliance being used.

This can be done by periodically increasing or decreasing the RMS voltage of the power supply to the lighting appliance. While such devices which can bring about a change in the voltage can be used for a number of purposes, in general, light dimmers are used for simply directing the brightness and intensity of the light being produced by the lighting appliance.

Depending upon the function to be served by the light dimmer, the size of the dimmer can vary drastically. For domestic purposes and usage in small capacities, the size of the dimmer is of the average light switchboard. However in larger settings such as those of theatres, the light dimmers are bigger and more complex. **End Summary** Topics: Light Dimmers
About the Author:
Article Written By

Learn all about Studio Lighting.

Studio lighting has emerged as in important and indispensable concept. The significance of studio lighting can be understood in the context of its various uses and numerous functions.

Studio Lighting is used, as the name suggests, in studios, for the purpose of photography and filming. The photographer often uses a strobe in order to be able to regulate the light falling on the subject.

The light is so directed that it falls from the bright light strobe onto the white umbrella from where it gets reflected upon the subject.

This process helps in creating a softer look and reduces the degree of stark harshness of the white light. The concept of studio lighting can be explained in two categories, each of which is formulated on the basis of an individual manner of working.

The first category of studio lighting is that of Continuous light, while the second category of studio lighting is known as that of Flash light. Each of these two categories are known to have specific advantages and disadvantages.

In this article we will primarily touch upon the advantages and disadvantages of Continuous light. **End Summary** Topics: Studio Lighting Studio Lights
About the Author:
Article Written By

Mankind has indeed come a long way from the days of using fixed telephone sets and getting up to turn the lights on and off or to switch television channels.

Technology is on an ever increasing plane and scientific developments are making daily news. It seems as though humans are not satisfied by simply deriving functionality out of products, and they strive to better even the best, working towards levels of perfection and achievement which would have once been deemed inconceivable.

Newer and newer technologies are being developed while older technologies are either being modified and adapted to the constantly changing times or are being declared obsolete.

In the blink of an eye what is the rage today can be turned to the forgotten tomorrow. In this scenario, with science and technology galloping ahead at the speed of light, one of the most popular technologies to take over the market recently is that of the wireless instruments.

Wireless communication is an extremely useful technology which deviates into various branches, including that of a wireless lighting control system. **End Summary** Topics: Wireless Lighting Controls Wireless Lighting
About the Author:
Article Written By

Light fixtures are also commonly recognized as luminaires. A light fixture can be understood to be a piece of equipment that is used in order to create a artificial system of lighting and illumination.

Light fixtures are manufactured in the form of complete sets and even though they are available as individual parts, it is advisable to make use of the entire set up for increased effectiveness in functioning. An entire system comprises several parts.

The first part is the lamp which acts as the source of the light. The second part of the unit is the reflector which is used for directing the light. The next part is the aperture which can be used with or without a lens.

Following the aperture is the outer shell which acts as a casing for the lamp and is used for the purposes of alignment and safeguard. The last two parts of the unit are an electrical ballast, which depends upon the needs of the user and of course, the connection to an electric power source.

Light fixtures are available in various assortments which range according to the needs of the user and the functions to be served by the appliance. **End Summary** Topics: Light Fixtures
About the Author:
Article Written By

Learn all About Compact Fluorescent Bulbs.

Compact fluorescent bulbs are often also referred to as compact fluorescent lamps. Compact fluorescent are being used widely as a replacement for the conventional incandescent light bulbs.

Most compact fluorescent bulbs readily fit into the fixtures that were originally designed for the incandescent bulbs. Even though compact fluorescent bulbs emit the same amount of visible light as given by the incandescent bulbs, there are certain added advantages that make compact fluorescent bulbs a more preferred choice.

Compact fluorescent have a longer life span than that of the conventional incandescent bulbs and they also utilize lower amounts of energy. However, as production involves a new technology, the cost of compact fluorescent bulbs is higher than the cost of incandescent light bulbs.

The light spectrum that is radiated by compact fluorescent bulbs is also different from the light spectrum given out by incandescent bulbs. This is due to an improvement in the formula of phosphor being used in the compact fluorescent bulbs. This has resulted in the creation of a pleasing softer shade of white light as compared to the light given by incandescent light bulbs. **End Summary** Topics: Compact Fluorescent Bulbs Fluorescent Bulbs
About the Author:
Article Written By

About Fluorescent Lighting and How They Work.

The concept of fluorescent lighting has become extremely popular in recent times. Fluorescent lighting systems involve a variety of appliances such as bulbs and lamps and other such fixtures.

Let us discuss the discussing of a fluorescent lamp. Fluorescent lamps are also known as fluorescent tubes. Fluorescent lamps discharge gas by using an electric current to energize a vapor of mercury.

The mercury atoms upon gaining energy become excited and begin moving between states of excitement and rest. This creates an electric current and results in the mercury atoms emitting ultraviolet light in short wavelengths.

This causes the coating of phosphor to emit fluorescence and this gives off a white light. Contrary to incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps constantly need a ballast. The ballast is used to control the power flow through the lamp.

Large fluorescent lamps are of use mostly in large commercial buildings and office complexes. Incandescent lamps and bulbs at homes have been slowly but surely replaced by fluorescent lamps and bulbs which prove to be more efficient, effective, energy maximizing and cost effective.

In comparison to incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps make use of considerably lesser amounts of power and energy. **End Summary** Topics: Fluorescent Lighting Fluorescent Lights
About the Author:
Article Written By

Halogen Track Lighting:

Track lighting is a method of making long continuous chains of lights. In this method, Light devices or fixtures are attached to a long track device. This track device should be continuous. All the lights which are joined to the continuous track device are connected to each other and to the source through a conductor (usually wires). Hence from this method, Many lights can be connected together and lighted from the same source or power supply, instead of lighting each light separately.

Once the tracks are prepared, they can be put in layers on Railings, or can be hung down from tall buildings to create a beautiful effect of Lights. If put at a correct height, it can create a perfect halo effect which is very beautiful.

When Halogen lights are used in the track lightning system, the process is called Halogen track lightning. These days, Halogen lights are being preferred over others due to various reasons as discussed below.

1)	The Halogen light are cheaper as compared to others. They employ superior technology which over the years has made halogen lighting much cheaper compared to other alternatives. **End Summary** Topics: Halogen Track Lighting
About the Author:
Article Written By

What Are Led Lamps?

LED Lamp:

LED lamps are the new generation lamps which have LED's or Light emitting Diodes as their light source instead of any gas or electrical filaments. These Lamps make use of the concept of Solid state Lightning, and hence fall into one of the categories of Solid State lightning Lamps.
LED Lamps are also called as Bars or Illuminators. LED lamps are generally a number of Light emitting diodes, packed together to perform the function of emission of light.

LED lamps come in various shapes, designs and sizes. Some examples of the common LED Lamps are: 1)Small Edison lamp 2) Bayonet bulbs , etc.

Most of the LED lamps require low voltage, and work appropriately in the normal household supply of electricity. (120-240 V AC )

LED lamps, as compared to Neon lamps, are a better source of Illumination. They last longer than the Neon lamps and require lesser voltage to run on.

Earlier, many different types of LED's were in use. For example, infra-red, yellow, green, red and orange LED's were greatly in use till the 1990's, when Blue, indigo and violet LED's replaced them.

A single LED, individually is of no use. **End Summary** Topics: LED lamps LED lamp
About the Author:
Article Written By

What Is a Lamp Post?

Lamp Post:

A lamp post is a source of light which is at the edges or corners of roads. Its meant for providing lights to the general public at night time. It is on a raised platform, like a post or pillar, so as to maximize the area lighted by it.

It is called or referred to by many names like: Street light, street post, street lamp, light or lamp standard, etc. Such sources of light are lit every night at a particular time from a main center. This center is a place which regulates the functioning of all the lamp posts in a particular area, or of the whole city. These lights are then shut off at a particular time each morning.

Modern technology provides a facility of turning the lamp posts on or off, very easily and without much hassle. If we simply substitute the old lamp posts to the new ones which are sensitive to light, then the new lamp posts will automatically get switched on or off at dusk or dawn, as required. **End Summary** Topics: Lamp Post Light Post Street Lamp Street Light
About the Author:
Article Written By

What Is a Electric Ballast Used For?

Electric Ballast:

An Electric ballast is an electronic device whose main purpose is to limit the amount of current flowing through an electric circuit. Hence it is also called as a control Gear for electric circuits.

There are many different kinds of electric ballasts. They can be simple ballasts, or may be very complex ballasts. A simple resistor put in series in an electric circuit is an example of a simple Ballast. This simple ballast can be used with small bulbs like Neon Lamps. But in case of simple ballasts, a lot of energy gets wasted using resistors, hence alternative complex ballasts are used nowadays which make use of Inductors, Capacitors or both, having suitable reactances.

Computerized ballasts or Remote controlled ballasts form the most complex type of electronic ballasts. These may be used with fluorescent lamps.

Ballasts are used in a circuit to provide a positive resistance to it. In some circuits, there are electronic devices which provide a negative resistance to it. Hence they withdraw a lot of current, which may lead to the damage of the source or that device. **End Summary** Topics: Electric Ballasts
About the Author:
Article Written By

Energy Saving Bulbs:

Those bulbs which provide the same amount of luminosity as other normal bulbs provide, but use lesser electricity for the same are termed as Energy saving bulbs. These bulbs may be costlier than the normal bulbs, but in the long run, they are very cheap as compared to ordinary bulbs, as they save a lot of electricity as well have a long life and duration.

According to a survey, if Each Indian House hold substitutes its regular bulb with one energy saving Light bulb, the electricity saved would be enough to shut down 5 power stations in the country.

Traditional incandescent light bulbs are really a horror. They not only have a very short life, but also consume a lot of energy for the same light out put, and also cost a lot of money. Hence their substitution with efficient energy saving bulbs is a must. Also, from using energy saving light bulbs, as much as 4 million tonnes of Carbon emissions to the atmosphere can be prevented.

The energy saving light bulbs use about 1/4th of the power used by traditional Incandescent bulbs and lasts up to 13 times longer than them. **End Summary** Topics: Energy Saving Bulbs Light Bulbs Low Cost Light Bulbs Green Energy Bulbs Green Enery Light Bulbs
About the Author:
Article Written By

Most of the new yoga practitioners who want to try out yoga are not sure if they need a yoga mat or not. In reality, yoga mat isn't necessary in several situations when you are practicing yoga. For example, if you are practicing yoga at your home, you can do it well enough on your carpet or if you're doing it at your gym, you can always borrow one.

However, the need for yoga mat arises when you are serious about taking up the practice or due to certain circumstances aren't able to find the right place and are forced to do it on a hard floor. Although some yoga mats are plain in their texture, there are others, which have some interesting patterns to give you a better friction during highly challenging postures. Since yoga is all about bringing your mind and body to one point and connecting them, most of the yoga mats are designed to fit seamlessly with your personality and help you get the most out of your practice. **End Summary** Topics: yoga breathing yoga techniques yoga videos yoga poses yoga health yoga clothes yoga mats history of yoga yoga training yoga tips
About the Author:
Article Written By Tom Dahne
