Miyajima, Japan - a brief guide and history

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I am in a fortunate position to be able to visit places of beauty around the world in order to pass on, first hand, my experiences to potential clients. In this case the destination was Miyajima, Japan.

It is believed that Miyajima is one of the three most scenic spots in Japan, steeped in history and tradition, with its blue seas, mountains and foliage, it was for me a huge highlight of my unforgettable trip to Japan.

Just a short but enjoyable ferry ride across to the island is a treat in itself with the gate of the Itsukushima Shrine standing in the sea as you approach. This fantastic vermillion coloured structure is about 200 meters in front of the main shrine and is called O-Torii. There are hundreds of shrines in Japan but for me this was a personal favourite due to the beautiful natural surroundings and its grand and unique construction displaying the artistic beauty of the Shinden architectural style. **End Summary** Topics: holidays in japan
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.

Japan - what to see and the best way to travel

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I am often asked all kinds of travel questions.
A client recently enquired about travelling to Japan for the first time and wanted my advice on what to see and the best way to travel when visiting this remarkable land. Here are my tips....

Because only 30% of this beautiful country is inhabitable, as you can imagine everyone is packed into these small areas so the public transport has to be good!
I found that one of the better ways to get around was on the Japanese Rail (JR) system. You will have to book a rail pass for this facility before leaving home to start your journey, up to 3 months before you plan on travelling.

Once you have activated your pass, you will be free to travel almost anywhere in Japan.

The interesting thing about this method of travelling is that the trains are never late and although they can become very crowded at peak times it is a very efficient way to get from A to B. **End Summary** Topics: holidays in japan
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.

One of the perks of being the UK Director of Operations for a travel company is… you get to travel a lot.

A recent destination One World Tours decided to add was Japan and I was thrilled to get to go there for 10 days fact finding. It certainly was a a trip I will never forget.

Where do you start with Japan. For me it’s the people. I am old fashioned and respect is a huge issue to me, so visiting somewhere like Japan was just heaven. The people are polite, the streets feel safe and you just don’t get hassled…ever !

The next thing that I completely loved was getting around. The trains in Japan are amazing. Everyone has heard of their Bullet Trains of course and yes these are great and a fantastic way to get from place to place in no time at all. But just your standard trains are incredible too. **End Summary** Topics: holidays in japan
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.

Booking holidays in destinations such as Egypt

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, over time, it came to my attention as to what a minefield in can be booking a holiday in a destination like Egypt through the myriad of "internet" based travel companies; especially local Egyptian companies

I therefore though it may be helpful to suggest a sort of "checklist" of things to look for and questions to ask "prospective" holiday suppliers.

1. Are they a travel agent or a Tour operator ?

Especially at a local level, service from a tour operator is often higher than that of an agent as tour booked through local agents "can" risk the fact that the agent is purely passing on your booking to a 3rd party. This is not always the case, but it's something to think about. Comeback if you have problems is also to be considered as an agent can blame the 3rd party and vice versa.

2. Do they require a deposit or are they offering payment in full on arrival ?

If the company you are potentially booking through accept payment in full on arrival, it means one thing - your are NOT booked. **End Summary** Topics: holidays in egypt
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.

Top 5 potential pitfalls in visiting Egypt, without doing a little research.

As the Director of Operation of One World Tours, I obviously have lots of travel experience and of course some are good and some are bad, so here is my top 5 list of things to watch out for when your are travelling in Egypt

1. Your Hotel is full. This one is a favourite for people arriving at the airport and apparently” travelling alone, ie not with a tour company. Local tour company reps will ask you which hotel you are staying at and either tell you itâ€'s full or itâ€'s a bad hotel. They do this for one of two reasons. One is to get you to sign up for a full package of accommodation and or tours or they may just offer to transfer you to a hotel of their choice. Chances are the hotel will be fine, their actual reason for doing this is they will be on commission from the hotel for any tourists they can attract” to the hotel.

2. If you pay in a USD, GBP Iâ€'ll give you a better rate. **End Summary** Topics: holidays in egypt tours what to see
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.
Just Egypt, or Egypt and Beyond ?

As the Director of Operations for One World Tours, I often get asked about Egypt as a destination and for people who have extra time available, they ask me, should we just do Egypt, or should we take in other neighbouring countries too? Here is my advice

If you have about 7 days, then you are probably looking at just Egypt. A typical tour of this length will allow you to take in the major sites of Cairo such as the Pyramids at Giza, The Sphinx, The Egyptian Museum, Coptic Cairo and the Khan Al Kallili Bazaar. It would then be on to Aswan to see the like of the High Dam and Philae Temple. Many clients would also do a morning excursion out to Abu Simbel at thins point to. Its then just a short train ride to Luxor where you will get to sample amazing sites like The Valley of the Kings, The Valley of the Queens, Luxor and Karnak Temples and of course it is also a brilliant place to take a felucca sailing on the Nile. **End Summary** Topics: holidays in egypt china india tours what to see
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I would like to share some of the wonderful stories that I was told in Iceland recently. Just over half of the countryâ€'s population believe in trolls, elves or hidden people and hopefully I have remembered enough to pass them on to you.

I had the good fortune to have a tour guide that was very well informed about the history of the mountain trolls and she spent the entire day pointing out where some of them were and the stories behind them. In times long ago these trolls would have brought terror into the hearts of the Icelandic people, however in modern times there appears to be only residual curiosity. It is believed that many of the ancient trolls have turned to stone and indeed when they were pointed out to me I must say that I could see the human- like forms after a while. Some of the huge, moss-covered, basalt rock columns that can be found all around the countryside looked amusingly like human faces or petrified trolls. **End Summary** Topics: Holidays in Iceland tours planning a vacation
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I am often asked about the destinations I have been to and why I decided to become a tour operator. 10 years ago I embarked on my second trip around the world and I suppose you could say that this is where it truly all began. Here is my first experience of Egypt.

I thought that visiting the Seven Wonders of the world in eight days would be a fun and challenging thing to do. Having decided with my sponsors the airlines and a chain of leading world-wide hotels it was decided that the Seven Wonders of the World were the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Golden Gate Bridge, The Empire State Building, Sydney Opera House and the Pyramids of Egypt. This would notch up a staggering 42,000 miles in 8 just days.

I had already visited 108 countries on my first tour around the world in 80 days”. **End Summary** Topics: holidays in egypt china india tours what to see
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.
In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, every time we add a new destination, the questions come flooding in. Having recently returned from Iceland people wanted to know about my experience of the Northern lights, so here it is...

I am not really a people person and usually opt for private tours if I can get away with it. With clients in mind I like to experience the kind of things that they will experience when on holiday and not only that a group tour is far more economical, especially in Iceland.

I took a tour of Iceland in the winter months in order to be able to see the wonderful Aurora borealis along with other things that can only be observed in the latter part of the year. Of course the weather is very unpredictable at this time of year and the chances of getting a clear cloudless sky for a long period of time is something to be taken into consideration when doing an evening out such as this. One thing is definite and that is there is never a certainty that the trip will take place. **End Summary** Topics: Holidays in Japan tours planning a vacation
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.

A client recently enquired about travelling to Egypt for the first time and wanted my advice and a sort of checklist of what they should think about when planning their first trip to the land of the Pharaohs. This is the advice I gave them…

When planning your first trip to Egypt, the following items are things you should definitely think about

Flights : Depending upon where you are flying from, there will usually be direct and indirect flights. While direct flights obviously are shorter in duration, if you are on a budget, then looking at a non direct flight, or a flight with a short stopover can often save you up to a third off of the price

Visas : You should always check for yourself of course, but generally most major nationalities can get their visas on arrival at major ports like Cairo, Luxor, Hurghada etc. Certainly if you are travelling from Europe, North America, Australia, you will be able to roll up and get your visa on arrival within about 5 minutes. **End Summary** Topics: Holidays in Iceland tours planning a vacation
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.

How to make the most of daylight hours in Iceland in winter

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I am often asked all kinds of travel questions. Sometimes I am asked when is the best time to visit a certain country? Having just returned from Iceland, mid December, I have tried to paint a picture of this stunning country that has so much to offer and the diversity to experience at different times of year.

Driving out of Reykjavik at 10am before the sun has set gave me the chance to experience the magic of travelling through a living Christmas card. The houses were adorned with twinkling lights that gave of hues of bright colours in the snow covered pre dawn setting. The grave yards were equally beautiful as all of the crosses that marked the passing of a loved one were each decorated with fairy lights.

Some may think that the shortened days, 5 6 hours of daylight in the winter is a disadvantage when visiting Iceland at this time of the year, but I would not have missed some of the countryâ€'s diverse weather and scenery for anything. **End Summary** Topics: Holidays in Iceland tours planning a vacation
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I am often asked all kinds of travel questions. I personally believe that when visiting a different country that you should be respectful of your hosts beliefs and customs. So with that in mind I have put together some useful tips and basic rules that should be observed when visiting Japan.

By far the best and most efficient way to travel is by train using the Japan Rail Travel Pass for foreigners. You will need to buy an exchange order before entering Japan as you can not buy it when you are there and travel agencies in your area will be able to tell you where you can get hold of one.
You have to be eligible for the pass so if you are visiting Japan for temporary sightseeing or are a Japanese national who lives permanently in a foreign country.
On arrival in Japan go to a Japan Rail Pass exchange office or a Travel Service Center which are located in major JR stations or airports. **End Summary** Topics: Holidays in Japan tours planning a vacation
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.
In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I am often asked all kinds of travel questions. With that in mind I have put together some things that you might like to consider on a trip to Egypt.
1 Flights obviously this will depend upon where you are coming in from, but Egypt is served by numerous airlines from all over the world and there are international airports in Cairo, Luxor, Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh and to a lesser degree, Alexandria). North American clients have the choice to fly direct by Egypt Air or via a number of airports in Europe, such as London, Paris, Rome etc using a whole list of International Carriers such as BA, Air France, Air Canada, Alitalia etc.

2 Visas For most major nationalities obtaining a visa to visit Egypt is very easy indeed and in the case of residents of the US, Canada, Australia, EU etc, you will actually be able to get your visa on arrival. You do not need any extra paperwork, photos etc. its just a two minute process at the airport and you are set.

3 Accommodation. **End Summary** Topics: Holidays in Egypt tours planning a vacation
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.
I’m going to Egypt on Holiday – how’s the food ?

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I am often asked all kinds of travel questions. One that regularly comes up is food and so if you are planning a trip to Egypt, here is some information that may be handy to have…

Firstly, it’s not exciting, but lets talk water. Only drink bottled water. Even in hotels and restaurants, the water can be dodgy and therefore the golden rule is to only drink bottled water. This is easy to do of course, but do keep a couple of thoughts in the back of your mind. It’s not just drinking were water can end up in your system. Ice is something people often overlook and don’t forget, ice is just frozen water. Salads are another thing to think about. Salads are of course very unlikely to be washed in bottled water. So again it’s something to think about

On to the good stuff, lets talk food.

Firstly food in Egypt is very inexpensive. You can get both western and eastern dishes and there is literally everything from traditional Egyptian home cooking to, yes you’ve guessed it MacDonalds. **End Summary** Topics: Holidays in Egypt tours what to eat food
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.
Moving from place to place in and around Egypt

Before you confirm your itinerary and make that booking for your next holiday to Egypt, just stop for a moment and consider the old saying that with a holiday – getting there is half the fun.

In this case what I am talking about in not actually getting to Egypt, but more getting around once you are there.

Certain modes of transport are not only cost effective, but they can actually save you money (like overnight trains that get you from a to b and which avoid the need of a hotel for a night)

So lets look at a few of the options which may be available to you

Flights – Internal flights are available to and from all major destinations in Egypt including Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Sharm and Hurghada, just to name a few. The advantages are of course the speed of getting from a to b, the disadvantage is that once you include airport transfers at either end, then they are relatively expensive

Public Buses – Again, they go to and from all the major point and by their very nature they are very cheap indeed. **End Summary** Topics: Holidays in Egypt tours what to see
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.
Why you should choose Chauffeur Services in the competitive market place.

Working extensively in the travel agency it often falls to me to produce tailor made solutions to clients travel issues and on occasions there is no question that private transfers are the only way to go. Here is my advice on why you should choose Chauffeur Services.

Travelling from A to B in today’s modern society is becoming increasingly stressful. Whether trying to catch a train, bus or cab to get you to the airport on time, you are always worried that these public services are going to let you down. On a train for example, apart from not having a seat that you have paid through the nose for and having to squeeze up intimately against a complete stranger, you also worry whether you will get your heavy, bulky luggage through a crammed train without injuring another passenger and off of the train before the doors close whisking you off to the next station whilst still suffering the embarrassment of knowing that other passengers witnessed the whole escapade.

We have all seen or heard that airlines are very stringent on their policies on boarding travellers that are maybe 2 or 3 minutes late. **End Summary** Topics: chauffeur sevices in london
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I am often asked about the destinations I have been to and the best advice on the dos and don'ts when booking a holiday. I have compiled some suggestions and notes for getting the best out of you holiday, Here are some questions and advice from One world Tours destinations, for whoever you choose to book with.

With years of experience in running tours to Egypt, we have put together just a few suggested questions that you should ask whoever you are thinking of booking with and whatever the destination.

1. Am I booking with a fully fledged travel company or just an Agent ? Quite simply, if you are booking through an agent only, then should you have any problems during your trip, you will have very little comeback as ultimately the tour company you are with will blame the agent and the agent will blame the Tour Company. Always look to book with a Tour Company and not an agent as this will guarantee that any problems that you may have experienced can be dealt with accordingly.

2. **End Summary** Topics: Holidays to one world tours destinations tours what to see
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience. Here then, are my top suggestions for sites to visit during your holiday in Vietnam.

Vietnam is located in south east Asia and borders Cambodia, Laos and China. Unfortunately the mention of the country Vietnam conjures up images of the war and its atrocities. However the reality is that the country is made up with enchanting natural beauty and peaceful village life.
Hanoi is located in the Red River Delta in a tropical monsoon zone with two main seasons. The dry season is between October and April. From January to March, the weather is cold but there is some light rain. The wet season, from May to September, is hot with heavy rains and storms.
Hanoi has many ancient architectural works some of the more famous are the One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature, Hanoi Citadel, Hanoi Opera House, President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum. **End Summary** Topics: Holidays in Vietnam tours what to see
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience.

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I am often asked about the destinations I have been to and the best places to visit, so with this in mind I will endeavour to give a good opinion on those. Here then, are my top suggestions for sites to visit during your holiday in Tunisia.
Tunisia for the most part is mainly dry, however in the north of the country there are many forests making the landscape fertile and lush. Sandy deserts dominate the south of the country whilst inland it is stony desert.

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I am often asked about the destinations I have been to. I try to give a good opinion on those places and offer some helpful advice. Here then, are my top suggestions for sites to take in during your holiday in Laos.

When you visit Laos you will notice immediately how important the culture, heritage and Buddhism are to its inhabitants. Laos is located between Vietnam and Thailand in the south east of Asia. It is a beautiful country with many rivers, rugged mountains, forests, plains and plateaus. Laos has been isolated from outside influences so the tourist gets a unique view of traditional Southeast Asian life. With its fertile lowlands of the Mekong River valley and the rugged Annamite highlands, Laos has got to be one of the highlights in Asia.
Laos has a tropical monsoon climate with the rainy season during the months of May to November and the roads can become washed out & the dry season starting from December to April. The weather is not too hot and there is less rainfall between November and February. **End Summary** Topics: holidays in laos tours what to see
About the Author:
Stuart Cheese is the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours and, having visited over 110 countries, has a wealth of travel experience. Modern Russia has become a nation of enormous diversity and tremendous vitality with its ancient cathedrals being ceaselessly restored and rebuilt.
