How Pancreatitis Affects Digestion

What are some general things we know about pancreatitis?

Basically, pancreatitis sufferers fall under three main categories. The first group is comprised of people who develop pancreatitis due to heavy alcohol use. Others develop pancreatitis due to gallstones, and the third group is affected by the condition as a result of gallbladder disease. Regardless of the cause of pancreatitis, doctors will often tell you that it is a lifelong condition with which you will have to treat with a strict diet and strong painkillers. However, through natural treatment of pancreatitis, you may in fact be able to limit use of painkillers, and even

Auto-Digestion

A natural diversion of the enzymes in the pancreas results in pancreatitis. With pancreatitis, the normal production of enzymes for digestion of food is disrupted. Also disrupted is the production of hormones necessary to maintain a normal level of sugar in the blood. With pancreatitis, what is thought to happen is that enzymes normally secreted by the pancreas in an inactive form, become activated in the pancreas and start to digest pancreatic tissue. This process, which is known as auto-digestion, causes swelling, haemorrhage, and damage to blood vessels. **End Summary** Topics: pancreatitis treatment of pancreatitis natural treatment of pancreatitis
About the Author:

Blepharitis Treatment without Medicine

Blepharitis, in layman's words, is the inflammation of the eyelids accompanied with such symptoms as redness, itching, burning, excessive tearing, blurred vision, and dry eye. These symptoms are associated with bacterial infections on the lids. As currently there is no effective cure for blepharitis, treatment of blepharitis involves controlling the condition. In most cases, blepharitis can be effectively prevented by maintaining adequate hygiene. But for more serious cases, medications or natural treatment of blepharitis should also be considered.

The basic treatment of blepharitis involves keeping the lids clean. You should apply warm compresses to your lids to loosen crusts and then scrub the eyelids with a cotton swab. Baby shampoo has been used traditionally for eyelid hygiene, but it is not antibacterial and long time use of it will make the skin dry. As blepharitis does not disappear completely and reoccurrence is common, regular eyelid hygiene is important to prevent its reoccurrence.

Blepharitis is not a serious condition but still requires your attention as it could last for a lifetime. If you are familiar with the symptoms mentioned above, your eyes should be checked for other complications such as glaucoma. **End Summary** Topics: Blepharitis treatment of blepharitis natural treatment of blepharitis
About the Author:

Natural Answers for Memory Loss Related to Menopause

When you are young, you take a good memory for granted. But things change as menopause approaches. For those who experience only a slight memory loss during menopause, such symptoms as "it is just on the lip of my tongue" phenomenon may be familiar, while others may who have more serious memory problems which cause them to do things such as leaving the doors open while away or leaving the lights or stoves on. If you are familiar with those symptoms and you are just going through menopause, you do not need to worry much. Just remember, memory problems are quite normal in the natural process of aging. Most women will experience this period of memory loss during menopause, and good news is that in most cases, the symptoms are temporary; what's more, a natural treatment of a memory problem can alleviate the symptoms effectively.

During menopause, women often experience such phenomena as forgetting things frequently, misplacing possessions, and not remembering what day it is. Family members or friends may kid that senility is setting in. How memory problems come about is still a mystery. Normally, memory problems go gradually from being short-term to long-term. **End Summary** Topics: memory problems natural treatment of a memory problem treatment of memory problems
About the Author:

How alcohol affects everything you do

Not even a drop

A few lunchtime drinks before an evening workout are seen by many as perfectly reasonable. Not so. Contrary to Homer Simpson's protestations, alcohol is not one of the major food groups, and its seven calories per gram (one alcohol unit is about 8g) have scant nutritional value. While carbohydrate and fat are the three- and four-star fuels, carbs being mainly required for the vigorous work, with fat mainly for the coasting stuff, the ethanol in alcohol - formed by the fermentation of sugar - earns no nutritional supplement or vitamin value at all.

To exercise you need extra glucose

The liver is slow at metabolising ethanol: on average, it takes about one hour for every unit of alcohol. It has to work extra hard, giving the ethanol undivided attention, and is thus unable to produce the glucose the working muscles require. Ingestion of alcohol will increase the risk of hypoglycaemia [abnormally low levels of blood sugar] due to the suppression of glucose production by the liver. This may be of particular concern during prolonged moderate-intensity exercise when glucose output from the liver is an important source of energy. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins
About the Author:

Fatty fish and your health

Cod and its companions
The key elements of nutrition that can be obtained from fish or nutritional supplements, EPA and DHA, are found in mackerel, salmon, herring, sardines, sablefish (black cod), anchovies, albacore tuna, and wild game. One of the best forms of nutritional supplementation is cod liver oil, as it contains large amounts of EPA and DHA. Fish oil supplements typically contain 18% EPA and 12% DHA, though more purified (i.e., higher in EPA and DHA) fish oil supplements are sometimes available. In addition, DHA is available in a nutritional supplement that does not contain significant amounts of EPA. To take this type of supplement, you should balance with vitamin B complexes and vitamin C in the appropriate doses. Sometimes, starting up a new vitamin regime requires an adjustment of other regular vitamins and nutritional supplements. This is certainly the case with fatty fish oil.
A primitive diet
So-called "primitive" diets have much higher levels of EPA and DHA than modern diets. As a result, some researchers and doctors believe that most people who eat a typical western diet are likely to be consuming less-than-optimal amounts of EPA and DHA. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins
About the Author:

Like many women, Pauline had decided to do something about her body, instead of constantly condemning it. In hospital, the casualty doctors treated her for a blood clot. They resuscitated her several times and gave her two blood transfusions. But less than 48 hours after surgery, Pauline was dead. She was 50. Her husband will never encourage anyone to undertake unnecessary surgery again, and if he got the chance, would have suggested a slower more sustainable route to good health ¨C exercise, good eating habits, and boosters of nutritional supplements and vitamins to bridge that gap.
There are many supplements on the market that have had a long history of helping you take off weight, either by suppressing your appetite, or speeding up your metabolism. Here are some of the most accessible ones:
Bitter orange (Citrus aurantium) contains several substances known to stimulate metabolic rate, which should increase calorie burning. It appears to be effective in combination with St. John\'s wort and caffeine. The peel of the fruit is used for stomach aches and high blood pressure. The Basque people in Europe use the leaves for stomach aches, insomnia, and palpitations and the bitter orange peel as an anti-spasmodic. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins
About the Author:

Unhealthy bones

Is it necessary to take nutritional supplements to protect your bones?
Should you be considering supplements? Well, it helps to know if you are at risk of developing bone density problems before you take a course of treatment. But generally speaking you should consider nutritional supplements in any case.
Is a healthy diet enough for most people?
If we eat a healthy, balanced diet then we should be able to get all the necessary vitamins and minerals to build and maintain strong bones. There is currently no conclusive evidence that vitamin and mineral supplements taken, for instance, at the menopause, when bone density naturally begins to decrease, will reduce the risk of osteoporosis in later life. However, it is surely better to take out that insurance policy on your bones, that risk mineral deficient bones later on in life.
At risk people need more
There are some people with poor nutritional intakes for instance who might need general supplementation or specific supplements such as calcium to bring them up to recommended levels. However, for most people, a calcium-rich diet that is low in salt and with plenty of fruit and vegetables will keep bones strong. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins mineral
About the Author:

Allergic reation

Allergy relief from medication or natural medicine?
Many people seek allergy relief in the form of vitamins or nutritional supplements since this can be a powerful method of strengthening the immune system, minimizing allergy symptoms, and obtaining relief. For most people, though, the method of dealing with symptoms is through medication; they want a quick fix so they don't even have to think about their sniffling and sneezing throughout their busy day. However, alternative health treatment such as vitamin provision, nutritional supplementation and immune system boosting health practices are steadily on the rise, with the vitamin industry taking in billions of dollars per year.
The energy to combat allergies
When I talk about natural allergy treatment, by the way, I'm not just referring to vitamins, minerals, and herbs. I have personally been cured of all my allergies through a wonderful energy-based treatment, taking its inspiration from Indian philosophy. This alternative allergy treatment has proven to be quick, reliable, and very effective.
Strengthen your body
This approach is a natural allergy treatment program that focuses on using nutritional supplements to strengthen the body. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins mineral herbs
About the Author:

Women beware the crispiest of foods

Links to cancer
Research has emerged showing a direct link between a chemical called acrylamide and womb and ovarian cancer in women. Acrylamide is produced when we roast, fry or bake our food. If you are still reeling from last month's news that bacon and sausages cause cancer, then the idea that the future holds only raw veggies may seem a bit much. However, it appears that the more crispily we cook food - particularly starchy foods, such as potatoes - the more acrylamide is produced. Are we at risk of over regulating our lives, and can we avoid some of the troubles of limiting our diets by adding more nutritional supplements and vitamins.
The effect of crispiness
The study found that women who consumed 40 micrograms of acrylamide a day (the same as in a 32g packet of crisps) had double the risk of cancer than women who ate the least. The evidence is so persuasive that some government agencies are now advising people to avoid overcooking when baking, frying or toasting carbohydrate-rich foods. Keeping it simple, the advice is to keep your chips to a gentle golden yellow, and your toast to the lightest shade acceptable. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins natural supplements
About the Author:

Like ginger?
If you like ginger, you are lucky. Ginger, a bulb-like root known in Asia for three thousand years, is an amazing source of goodness for your body. If you don't need to have your ginger condensed, ground up and coated in plastic, you can add it to a number of foods. Ginger is a versatile and nutritional element to enhance your diet and health.
Good to get you up in the mornings on a cold day
Thanks to ginger oil and shogaole, ginger gives one a pleasantly warm feeling which is especially valued by people in cold weather. The hot ginger taste is caused by the so called gingerole. But be careful, common sense health stories tell you, while ginger is good in the morning, it disrupts your digestive system if taken at night.
Good for your stomach
The hot, spicy taste is only moderately impacted by heating. Ginger stimulates the secretion of saliva and sweat, and by stimulating the stomach nerves which are heat sensitive, it causes an intensive burning sensation. Ginger also stimulates the production of gall juice and thus facilitates the digestion of fat. Ginger stimulates one's appetite and the production of digestive juices. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins health mineral
About the Author:

How to revitalise in winter

Common sense approach to winter

Winter weakens. As an explanation for this, try any of your own culture's maxims or common sense theories. Or check out the science of Indian or Chinese traditional medicine. For these show how the cycle of our bodies interacts with the cycle of the weather and seasons. It isn't a surprise in traditional medicine that our bodies prefer to hibernate in winter. It's just that we have forgotten this in our rush to take advantage of every minute. Remember the seasons and boost your health with nutritional supplements and vitamins, and you can overcome nature, if you need.

Health boosting measures

Health boosting measures are recommended for the cold time of the year: in particular, make sure you get a healthy amount of activity and rest; don't overwork yourself and allow yourself to get enough sleep. These are imperative and beyond lies the range of nutritional supplements and vitamins that will keep you fit in winter.

15 to 20 minutes of meditation in the morning and evening are excellent ways to treat your body and spirit during winter. A regular daily routine does much to harmonize the body with your mind. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins health
About the Author:

Garlic flavours and uses

Garlic also has a long reputation in folk medicine and mythology for its health giving properties. If you don't like the taste or smell of garlic but are still interested in its medicinal reputation then you might like to consider buying nutritional supplements instead. Many people prefer to take garlic supplements as part of their vitamin and mineral regime. These multi-vitamin-like pills and capsules have the advantage of avoiding garlic breath. However when it comes to cooking, there's really no substitute for the original and multiple flavours of garlic.
Essential hypertension and garlic
Essential hypertension refers to the case where there is no obvious single cause of high blood pressure. There are many factors that can contribute to essential high blood pressure, the most common of which are lifestyle related. Garlic is not a substitute for prescription medicine or lifestyle changes, however it has long had a reputation for assisting with blood pressure management. The research data seems to support the role of garlic in cooking or as part of a tablet nutritional supplement in reducing blood pressure. It appears that the reputed beneficial effects of garlic on blood pressure come more from the garlic sulphides than from allicin. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins health minerals
About the Author:

No side effects
Moreover, one of the most appealing qualities and advantages of phytotherapy (nutritional supplements, vitamin pills and Chinese herbs) is the low risk of adverse reaction or side effects, especially in comparison to pharmaceutical drugs. Below are two more key ingredients of Chinese traditional herbal medicine that you can apply to your nutritional supplement and vitamin regime.
Ginseng
Asian or Oriental ginseng comes in two forms, red and white. White ginseng is a nutritional supplement in its unprocessed state. Red ginseng is preserved with steam and is believed by many to be more potent. The health benefits of ginseng include increased energy, better body functions and calm a stressful mind. Research has shown that ginseng can lower blood pressure and appears to help those with diabetes. Ginseng, no matter the type, has also been purported to help in fighting cancer and aging. As science continues to find uses for ginseng, it is a supplement that the Chinese were correct about many years ago. As a daily tonic, ginseng is a safe way to boost energy, vitality and overall health, alongside regular vitamins. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins health herbs
About the Author:

The power of traditional nutritional supplements

No doubt, official medicine has reached great success in treating health problems and rescuing people from the claws of death. However, folk remedies on which nutritional supplements and vitamin intake are modelled, must not be dismissed out of hands. Furthermore, today official medicine tends toward employing traditional folk methods of treatment in many situations. That is why nutritional supplements are so ingrained in an Eastern health regime, and why it is becoming increasingly popular to take vitamins in the West.

There was hardly a country in the world, the inhabitants of which did not use herbs and nutritional supplements with medical aim and in everyday life: Greeks and Europeans, people of Ancient Rome and especially the inhabitants of China. Phytotherapy is the crucial constituent of folk medicine. It has a long history and broad experience. Hippocrates, whom we often call "the father of medicine", used more than 200 herbs and other natural nutritional supplements for treating different diseases. Not only health herbalists, but even ordinary people knew about the curative forces of many vitamin containing herbs and used them for keeping and restoring the normal body functions, for improving health to feel better and live longer. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins health herbs
About the Author:

Chinese herbs

Chinese herbs can be counted in their hundreds of millions. Every pharmacy in China is stacked with boxes inside which you can find the potions that make up traditional nutritional supplementation. Below are just a few of the most commonly known in the West:

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a short-stemmed succulent plant which belongs to Lily family. More than 200 biologically active elements are presented in aloe vera. They include minerals, polysaccharides, proteins and amino acids, biological stimulators and vitamins. The extracts of aloe vera are used to stimulate the immune system, decreases the allergy symptoms and respiratory infections. Taken as a nutritional supplement, Aloe vera juice is effective in enhancing digestive functions, restores the balance of the stomach acids. As a gel, it is effectively used in treating athlete's foot, any forms of burns, bruises, muscular pains, varicose veins, herpes, eczema, pimples, diaper rash, wounds and cuts, hair loss, allergies, insect bites, furuncles, scleroderma, psoriasis and acne; it also acts as antifungal. But the major use of the aloe vera gel is in wounds healing therapies. Not just vitamins can do that: natural plants can behave like vitamins too. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins health mineral
About the Author:

What does your fetus need from you?
There are numerous changes in nutritional needs for a pregnant woman. Such changes are partly due to the nourishment demands of the fetus and partly to other physiological variations that affect absorption and metabolism of nutrients. Changes in nutritional needs in pregnancy appear to be related to the body's adaptation to pregnancy too. Your body goes through a reduction of electrolytes , proteins , glucose , vitamin B-12 , folate , vitamin B-6 , and a rise in lipids , triglycerides , and cholesterol in blood. The result is that different amounts of iron, folic acid, sodium, and sugar are needed in pregnancy, and that they can be obtained by eating well and taking nutritional supplements.
More of some of this
To keep healthy, pregnant women should increase their usual servings of a variety of foods from the four basic food groups to include a total of four or more servings of fruits and vegetables, four or more servings of whole-grain or enriched bread and cereal, four or more servings of milk and milk products, and three or more servings of meat, poultry, fish, eggs, nuts, and dried beans and peas. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins health mineral
About the Author:

Fact: pain relievers on the market come at a cost
We are not talking monetary cost here. We are talking the cost of side effects and the numbing of your body to its natural nerve indicators, telling you how healthy your system is. For both issues with pain relief, nutritional supplements and vitamins play an important part in making you feel, in general, and feel good in particular.
Natural pain relievers
Flax seed, either in liquid form or ground into powder and fortified with extra nutrition, is a well-known nutritional supplement that can offer a wide variety of health benefits, including natural joint pain relief. Multivitamin supplements, including Glucosamine MSM and Omega 3, help with natural pain relief and even help to improve prostate health and lower cholesterol. Since most of us do not eat an adequate diet, taking a multivitamin supplement is a good way to make sure we are getting what we need for good health. For those looking for natural pain relief and natural joint pain relief, it is best to check out the range of natural pain relieving nutritional supplements on the market. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins health multivitamin supplements
About the Author:

Good colon health
Stools should be effortlessly expelled from the body. Constipation is one obvious symptom of bad colon health. Another indication is the appearance of any undigested food, mucus and blood in your stools. If you have such symptoms, consider some nutritional supplements and natural dietary improvements.
Drink enough water
You know water is important, but how do you know if you are drinking enough? Often people with chronic constipation are often just not drinking enough water. Although nutritional supplements and vitamin supplementation work, you should start with the fundamental: water.
Fibers
Using the list of high fiber foods and including more of the foods from the list can help increase daily fiber consumption so important for normal bowel function. Obtaining adequate fiber is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. However, too many people do not obtain sufficient fiber each day, which results in poor bowel function and constipation. Bananas, black beans, kidney beans, bran cereals, bread, broccoli, brussels sprouts, dried figs, lentils, peas, potatoes, sweet corn are all part of the list of recommended ingredients to keep you regular. They also contain plenty of vitamins, to keep you bright. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins health minerals
About the Author:

Is it the hormones again?

Could women be suffering more from eyesight degeneration because they tend to live longer than men? Or is it more because of a hormonal influence. Recent research suggests that Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can reduce these risks. However, it is better to concentrate on vitamins and nutritional supplements, as these can be self-administered and hormones cannot.

Anti-oxidants

In various studies and clinical trials antioxidant vitamins and nutritional supplements found in certain foods have been linked with eye health. They help to maintain healthy cells and tissues in the eye.

The best fruit and vegs

The main focus has been on the anti-oxidant vitamins A, C and E. These vitamins can be found in many different sources of fruit and vegetables such as oranges, kiwis, grapefruit, dried apricots, tomatoes, peppers, raw carrots, green leafy vegetables including kale and spinach, green peas, green beans and brussel sprouts. They can also be found in nuts, seeds, dairy products and eggs. These are only a few of the food types in which antioxidant vitamins can be found. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements antioxidant vitamins health minerals
About the Author:

Smoking and your eyesight

How smoking acts on your eyes
Smoking causes harm to the tissues of the eye. Research has confirmed the direct, harmful effects of smoking on eyesight, particularly in the development of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Diabetes risk
If you have diabetes you need to pay even closer attention to your eyesight. Especially if you are a smoker. Out of all the trials and tests done on eyesight related nutritional supplements and other health remedies, we can show the links between these common conditions and the effects on our eyesight. And we know that smoking can make diabetes-related sight problems worse.
Stop those free-radicals!
Cigarette smoking increases free radicals which accelerate ageing and alters the body's ability to absorb or extract necessary vitamins and minerals from food. Smoking reduces appetite which may result in a poor diet. Poor nutrition also has an adverse effect on eye health. To put you back to rights, you should consider nutrition a key part of your health regime, check out the vitamins that will complement your nutritional supplementation, and work on that bad smoking habit. After all, your eyesight is probably the most important sense you have. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins health minerals
About the Author:

Don't impair yourself
The aim of this article is to improve those percentages so that fewer people develop preventable eye diseases, and so that those who do develop an eye disease can slow the progression and lessen the symptoms of the disease. In other words, my goal is to keep you from being one of the millions of North Americans (and people around the world) who are blind or have a vision impairment that could have been prevented. I want you to protect your eyesight with nutritional balance, supplements and a course of vitamins so that you can have many more years to use your most valuable sense.
Nutritional supplementation
There are many nutritional supplements and products for eye health to help you detect and prevent eye diseases or slow their progression. Ocular nutrition products can be divided into those created specifically to deal with macular degeneration and general formulations.
Even in childhood
Good nutrition is very important for both your general and eye health.
Steak and nutritional supplements?
Steaks and chicken fillets laced with rare, heavy forms of elements could strengthen cells and protect them against oxidation, caused by highly-reactive particles, free radicals, that are released in the body as a by-product of biological processes in our cells. Many researchers believe free-radical oxidation is a major cause of aging. Nutritional supplements to stop free-radicals acting on our skins have been around for a while.
Innovation and nutritional supplements
An innovative approach to nutritional supplements and health, researchers believes we can extend lifespan by making bonds within the delicate molecules inside and around our cells harder to break. Because these bonds are so much more stable, it should be possible to slow down the process of oxidation and aging. Calls for studies to investigate this proposal suggest that by making food containing enhanced versions of the crucial building blocks of life, such as amino acids, nucleic acids and fats called lipids, from heavy forms of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen, we can improve our resistence to age. A step beyond the mere ingestion of nutritonal supplements, implanting supplements in our food itself is still at the design stage. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins health a good diet
About the Author:

Do you need extra when doing those bench presses

The most popular workout exercise
The main muscles worked are the pectoralis major, the fronts of the shoulders, and the triceps, or backs of the arms. That's the front of the upper body pretty much covered, and most gym-goers, male or female, will regularly do three to five sets of 8-12 reps. Five reasons exist for the bench press's popularity: it's easy to learn and practise; beginners make quick gains; it works muscles you can see in the mirror; it's easy to work out if you completed the lift or not; it's a legitimate, contested lift in the sport of power-lifting. To keep your health up while building your muscles, you need to feed it right, with good nutrition, nutritional supplements and vitamins.
Eat more carbs
When taking up power-lifting, it is essential to supply the body with efficient energy fuel found in grains, starchy vegetables, fruits, low-fat dairy products, and carbohydrate-replacement drinks. Taking steroids just isn't going to give you the right all over health you can get from a combination of healthy diet, nutritional supplements and vitamins. Water is also crucial for all sports activities. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins health minerals healthy diet
About the Author:

Genetically modified plants with fish oils

Fish oil in plants?
Genetically modified plants which produce essential omega-3 fish oils could be the only way to ensure people get enough of these nutrients, according to a major EU-funded study. The plants, which would be used as feed for farm animals, could increase omega-3 in human diets without adding to pressure on rapidly declining fish stocks.
Why do we need omega-3?
Long-chain fatty acids called EPA and DHA, found mainly in oily fish such as tuna, salmon and mackerel, can give protection against cardiovascular diseases and slow mental decline in elderly people and are essential for the healthy development of a baby's brain in the womb. Nutritionalists have long been suggesting supplementation or eating more oily fish.
Not enough in our diets
Experts recommend that we eat about 450mg of omega-3 oils every day, but most adults manage barely half that amount. Among teenagers, the figure drops to just 100mg a day. Low-income families get about 50mg a day less than average. An analysis carried out for the project found that the costs of increasing omega-3 consumption, in or outside nutritional supplement pills, would be paid back many times over in reduced healthcare costs. **End Summary** Topics: nutritional supplements vitamins health minerals
About the Author:
