Can The Paleo Diet Help You Lose Weight?

By:

If you want to lose weight, there are many ways to do so. In our society today, it's become rather common for fad diets to crop up almost every day. If you go to a bookstore, you'll likely see a section filled with books on weight loss and different diets. The Paleo diet is one of the more popular diets these days, so you might want to check it out. This diet is patterned after the diet that early humans supposedly ate. While its historical accuracy is questionable, the Paleo diet has managed to help many lose weight. To find out if this diet is right for you, we're sharing the following information.

One thing you can expect from being in the Paleo diet is zero consumption of refined sugar. Vegetables and fruits contain sugar but it's natural sugar so it's fine. You're more prone to energy surges and crashes when you consume refined sugar. It makes it difficult for you to maintain a reliable energy level.

It's also terrible for your health. Not only does refined sugar eat through your teeth's enamel, it causes widespread damage in your body. So when you get on the Paleo diet, be prepared to not eat any refined sugars regardless of your weight loss goals.

Meat eaters have one thing to love about the Paleo diet, and that's the fact that it sources its protein from animals. So if you love meat, you won't have to give it up when you follow this diet. While you won't eliminate meat from your diet, it does call for exclusively eating meat that comes from grass fed animals. The meat you're allowed to eat should also be the leanest cuts. As a result, you'd be able to cut down on calories, cholesterol, and unhealthy fats. It is one of the healthiest ways to eat meat and doesn't involve that drastic of a lifestyle change so it's easy to stick to and follow. Most people fail to stick to a diet that requires many drastic changes.

The Paleo diet follows the core principle that fished and hunted foods are the only ones to be consumed. For this reason, when you're on the Paleo diet, you'll be eating more meats and fish and not much of carbs and plants. On this diet, processed food is not allowed, and there are some versions of the diet that don't allow for the consumption of any grains. There are other diets that bear similarities to the Paleo diet (Atkins, for one) and they have been found to be very unhealthy. Nonetheless, if you want to lose weight, try consuming natural foods.

Whether or not you choose to follow the Paleo Diet is completely up to you. The Paleo diet actually has a number of variants so if you don't like the one you're one, you'll find it easy to switch to a different one and give it another try. In reality, though, your doctor is the only one who will be able to tell you if this diet is good for you. If you want to shed excess pounds, make sure you consult with your doctor and see if you and the Paleo diet are a good fit.
