Firewall Script - do you need one?
Ad: Do you use a shared hosting account? Are you running a website powered by a script that you can’t change – like one that is ioncube encoded? Concerned about malicious scripts being run from your server? Losing sleep over your site being hacked or broken into?
I’ve been running websites on various servers for a long time and I can say that protecting them from various kinds of exploits has always kept me busy several weekends. Especially when it is someone who is using a script to do all the hard work. Whether it be a known exploit or someone just playing around, it can cause a lot of damage.
If you host your site on a shared host or a machine with limitations, then you might not be able to install some of the typical linux or windows firewall setups on your server. FirewallScript was designed just for that. They have several configurations setup for some of the more popular website packages (wordpress, etc). Do you run a dedicated server but don’t have the technical know how to setup a firewall and configure all the rules? I’ve talked to a lot of people who fall into this category.
Having had the unfortunate experience of sites being hacked, broken, etc, I know how hard it can be to fix them afterwards. But with a script like this, you would not have to worry as much about it happening.
So if its something you need or are curious about - you should definately take a look at the FirewallScript.
