Will The Government Pay Me To Cut Energy Bills With Solar Electrical Panels?

By: Don Anthony

This time of year you can send a chill down your spine; and it has nothing to do with the approach of winter temperatures. With the current economy, it has more to do with wondering if you will be able to afford to heat your home this winter and still be able to eat. The good news is that there are ways to cut energy bills by installing solar electrical panels for your home. The better news is that the government might even pay you to do it.

The government is helping homeowners make their homes more energy efficient. They are offering a tax credit of up to $1500 when you replace your doors and window with more energy efficient models. In addition to the federal government, some state governments are giving tax incentives for businesses and residents to make their own electricity using solar electrical panels, solar energy and wind power. This of course involves the installation of solar electrical panels on your property. More and more homeowners are taking advantage of federal and state tax credits by turning to solar and wind energy to heat and power their homes. Substantial savings on electric and heating bills can easily be obtained just by making a few changes.

Most of the heat loss in a home comes from leaky, poorly sealed, and old windows and doors. Technology has made significant advancements in the energy efficiency of windows and doors so if yours are more than 10 years old it's probably time for an upgrade.

With the economy in recession and people struggling to pay bills, not everyone can afford the expense of buying new windows and doors, tax credit or no tax credit. It also may not be financially possible to install solar electrical panels. The good news is that there are other ways you can stop all your hot air from leaking out of your old windows. The better news is that many homeowners have been able to construct their own solar electrical panels for as little as $200.

Many companies make window kits. These kits are essentially a plastic sheet you can put over your existing windows to add another layer and prevent heat loss. They are inexpensive to buy and easy to use. While they're not as good as a brand new window, it will help you lower your electricity bills this winter. Solar electrical panels can be built by the average do it yourselfer using supplies and materials you can purchase from a hardware store.

So if you want to take advantage of the tax credit and buy new windows, or if you have to start a little smaller, there are ways that you can cut energy bills this winter. Get started now on these and other ways of saving some money, and still keep warm this winter.
