What Is The Process For Invisalign Teeth Straightening? How Does It Work?

Because the Invisalign system is an advanced cosmetic dentistry procedure, the techniques and processes to have them placed on your teeth are specific and use advanced technology. The process is more than other systems that simply send results to a lab. The techniques use a three-layer modeling image with the aid of computer aided design software (CAD).

The first step to receiving Invisalign is to visit your dentist for a consultation. The dentist will examine your oral health, take x-rays, and take dental impressions from a bite registration. All of the analyzed results are sent to a lab at Align Technology, Inc., makers of the Invisalign system. At the lab, the technicians use the CAD software to produce a computer-animated graph of the scanned imprint of the patients dental impression. From this computer generated graph, the company can use the print out to create a fitted design of invisible braces.

The image is sent back to the dentist for approval. The dentist may even show you the computer-generated design prior to approval to make sure you are happy with the results. This will ensure that you do not spend money on a treatment you may not be pleased with. Once approved, the technicians at Align Technology, Inc. create the series of molded covers that are used by the patient. These series of perfectly molded designs are created through advanced technology techniques called stereolithography. The technique creates molds for the upper and lower parts of the mouth. They are created in series, so when one part of the series aligns teeth at a certain point, the patient is then instructed to use the next part in the series until teeth are realigned and straightened.
