What are the Best Body Moisturizers and what Ingredients do they Contain?

By: Ray A. Rubio

The best body moisturizers are probably a little more expensive than what you are used to paying. In order to keep the price down, most manufacturers use cheap ingredients like petrolatum and mineral oil. That's why they don't work well, at all.

Mineral oil, which is actually liquid petrolatum, may at first "feel" like it's doing something. But, in the long term, it actually does more harm than good. It clogs the pores, interferes with skin cell production and strips the skin of its natural oil, which is called sebum.

Active and effective ingredients are expensive. The best body moisturizers contain lots of active and effective ingredients. Let's look at some of them.

Jojoba

Jojoba is something like liquid wax. It is very similar to the skin's own sebum, so it is readily accepted and deeply moisturizing. It can be used on all skin types, because it balances sebum production. Your skin will neither be too oily or too dry.

The additional benefits of jojoba include; reduction of wrinkles and stretch marks--lightens and heals scars--beneficial in treating acne and psoriasis.

Manuka Honey

Every variety of honey has proven benefits in healing and maintaining the skin's health. Scientists have shown that manuka honey is the most active. It has antibacterial and antioxidant properties, so it heals rashes, prevents infections and like other antioxidants, it prevents free radical damage.

Like jojoba, it is beneficial in treating acne and psoriasis, as well as eczema.

Other Antioxidants

If properly prepared, all antioxidants are moisturizing. The two most important antioxidants for the skin are vitamin E and coenzyme Q10.

The best body moisturizers contain H EQ10, because it is the most effective formulation. It penetrates deeply to moisturize, protect against UVA damage, reduce wrinkles and enhance cellular activity. H EQ10 destroys more free radicals than any other antioxidant lotion.

Wakame Kelp

This extract provides most of the nutrients that the skin cells need for good health. It is only found in the very best body moisturizers. The kelp extracts increase elasticity, moisture levels, and protein levels. They heal irritation and relieve dryness. Kelp is another natural antioxidant that protects against UV rays and free radical damage.

Functional Keratin

This is a protein extracted from sheep's wool. Keratin is found in many creams and lotions, but it is not properly manufactured, so the skin can't use it.

Protein makes up the tightly woven mesh of fibers and cells that is the skin. If you really want something effective, you have to try Functional Keratin. In clinical tests, it has been shown to heal even detergent related contact dermatitis. That's a fancy way of saying "dish-pan hands".

It makes the skin look younger and healthier. It creates a lightweight film that locks in the other moisturizing ingredients and keeps out dirt and grime. It is particularly effective on elbows, heels and knees. Those areas are usually the most damaged.

The best body moisturizers contain all of the ingredients I mentioned here, except of course, mineral oil and petrolatum. It may cost more, but it is worth the price. Now you know why.
