What Are The Primary Advantages Of Business Cards?

By: Christopher Reinhold

The use of business cards within any company can have a fantastic effect on their business, if used properly. Well designed, created and manufactured business cards can not only allow for a company to be contacted at any time, but they can also help to increase the turnover of a business considerably.

One of the first points to note about business cards is that they should be thought of as an advertising method. Rather than thinking of them simply as a means of communication between a company and their clients, by thinking of them as a way to promote a company, it will broaden the thoughts of how they can be used.

When a business card is being thought of as a means of advertising, the advantages can be immense. For instance, when compared to other advertising methods, business cards are very often the cheapest option, as they are one of the smallest and easiest to create advertising methods available. Furthermore, the cost of a business card can generally be as large or as small as a company wishes, as all aspects can be carried out by both a professional company and as a DIY method, depending on the individual budget constraints of the business.

Further to the cost aspect, the fact that business cards are one of the smallest of all advertising methods means that they are less likely to be thrown away as soon as they are received, unlike other larger promotional methods.

Taking flyers and leaflets as an example. Almost everyone throughout the country receives a free newspaper of a sort through their door that is full of advertising flyers of some shape or form. Whether it is a takeaway food menu or a company selling windows and doors, the recycling bins in the houses of most people in the country are full of promotional flyers. The reason behind this is that not only are the flyers being sent to a non-target specific audience and are therefore generally not needed, but they are often too obtrusive and unsightly to be kept and are thrown away.

When considering business cards, however, their small size and often minimalist appearance can be both aesthetically pleasing and inconspicuous, meaning that regardless of whether or not the person who is receiving it actually needs the service offered by the company being advertised, they are more likely to place it to one side so to be able to refer to it at a later date, at least for several weeks.

Looking at the benefits for the actual company and business cards promote a much more professional look for any business. Although handing out leaflets in the centre of town to anyone who will take one can be an effective method of advertising for some businesses, a business card that is handed to a specific person who is interested in the services offered will generally be a more effective option and ensure that business cards are one of the most cost effective methods of advertising available.
