Water Damaged Flooring Issues Exposed

It does not necessarily take a huge flood to cause a lot of inconvenience and damage in a home. When there are floods of only a few inches or less in a home, it can damage carpets, hardwood flooring, baseboards, the bottoms of doors, and furniture. It can soak into the floor and get into the sub flooring underneath floor coverings quickly. This is why a flooded home must be cleaned up and dried out as soon as possible.

Even when you are able to get all the water out on your own without hiring someone to come in suck it all out, there will still be the issue of the flooring and potential damage to deal with. Also anything that gets soaked, like the sheetrock on walls or wood areas have the potential for mold growth if all moisture is not dried completely and quickly.

It might be necessary to call in a water damage team anyway. They will know how to remove flooring if necessary, examine walls for damage, and make sure that all moisture is gone. They have all the special tools necessary to extract moisture from hardwood flooring slowly so it does not warp are buckle up. They will know what to do about saturated carpeting. When you consider the risk for structural damage to your home and the potential for mold development, it is essential that the clean up process in conducted correctly.

Do what you can to shut off the water if it is caused by a break in plumbing somewhere in the home. Shut off your electricity at the fuse box too to avoid any electrical hazards. If there is any way to begin getting the water up your self in the mean time, do it. If you can not get any of the water up, at least begin moving items like personal belongs and furniture out of the way. It might be necessary to put some things outside. A good water damage team will help remove heavy furniture items out and replace them when the clean up process if finished.

It is probably best when your home has been flooded to contact your insurance company immediately. They can find a water damage crew that is licensed and insured for you. You may be more likely to get a reputable firm that has had satisfied customers if you allow your insurance company to find them.
