Understanding A Floor Scale

By: Lawrence Denisson

A floor scale is ground based weighing machine that is designed to measure weight of heavy objects. It has a broad and flat area called as a platform, on which heavy objects are placed. The industrial scale is made from stainless steel, welded steel and aluminum. The material used in construction of the scale is selected to suit a particular application and environment. For hazardous and corrosive environment stainless steel is used, while welded steel is preferred for general industrial use. Where portability is required along with protection from rust, aluminum is used in construction of platform scale.

The digital floor scale has load cells in the four corners under the platform. When the load is placed on the platform, the load cells generate electrical current that is directly proportional to the weight on the cells. The output from all the cells is processed and true weight is displayed on the electronic display board of the weighing scale. The size of the platform varies according to the shape and weight of the object that is to be weighed

The platform of the floor scales is sturdy and can easily withstand daily wear and tear. It is equipped with safety feature like anti-slip diamond pattern that minimizes the risk of injuries due to slippage. The electrical circuit is sealed in junction boxes to protect them from moisture and keep away water during a high pressure wash.

For a highly corrosive environment, stainless steel is used in construction of the industrial scale. It is the coated with special glass epoxy coating that contains suspensions of garnet particles. This protects the paint from abrasion during the loading and unloading operations. For normal industrial environment Zinc based epoxy paint is used. It is more resistant to scratching than a common paint. The Zinc ensures protection of steel from oxidation, even in case the coating gets scratched.

Nowadays the floor scale has digital features. It is linked to a computer where the crucial data can be stored. The digital display board provides fast and accurate readings. The other key feature is the automatic power shut off system that saves power when weighing scale is not in use or the operator forgets to shut it off. You can know more at www.paylessscales.com.
