The Doors Which Set The Peugeot 1007 Apart From Its Rivals.

By: Tim Lolyd

The 1007 is a brave and risky gamble for Peugeot. It's an original, intended to set a trend rather than follow one. Peugeot says its latest city car is for the young, cool urbanite around town. And if you put electrically-operated sliding doors at the top of your list, you could well have found the answer.

It'll come as no surprise it's the doors which set the 1007 apart from its rivals. They're perfect for those with impaired mobility and attention seekers will love to show off the remotely-operated open and close feature.

Unlike the Smart City Coupe, a previous fashion car, the 1007 seats four, and does so with enough space over their heads to wear chefs hats. The back seats are reasonably easy to get in and out of and there's plenty of space for a five-foot niner to sit behind a five-foot niner. The back seats also slide backwards and forward and individually tumble to create a decent sized luggage well for two or three people going on holiday. It's easy to understand how the seats work, and the levers and structure seem very robust.

But lets be honest, the Peugeot 1007 is all about those doors' the handles sit at the front, rather than the more conventional rear location and the rear quarters are dominated by a huge silver runner. The front end has received the same treatment as the rest of the Peugeot range, with a gaping grille in the bumper and rugby ball-shaped headlights, but its easy to overlook this as your eyes are drawn to the height of the car, especially with a pair of enormous roof rails.
