The Top Ten Reasons Why Indians Move Overseas

By:

Called the Indian diaspora, it is the phenomenon that describes the ever-increasing numbers of Indians leaving the home country to live and work overseas. There are many reasons for such decision and the following are the top ten reasons why Indians move overseas.

1)Work. Because of the greater opportunities in terms of salary or opportunity, this is the top reason why Indians move overseas. Since many Indians have degrees and are technologically adept, the lure of employment prospects overseas cannot be resisted;

2)Education. Many Indians seek greater levels of academic achievement by enrolling and obtaining scholarships in overseas educational institutions. Improving their skills and expertise in a world-renowned educational institution can only serve their ends in the long run;

3)Relatives. This is often done through a petitioner seeking the grant of residency status upon a relative in another country. This petition is to give the relative back in India greater opportunities in the new country;

4)Business. When an investment opportunity arises or a business venture opens up, many Indians go overseas for economic opportunity. These include investments, business enterprise or a commercial endeavor;

5)Opportunity. Many Indians, because of adverse poverty at home, take a chance on any opportunity to live overseas. While many areas of the country are booming, a greater majority of the population still live below the poverty line;

6)Immigration. Indians have looked to other countries as a way for a better life through immigration. This is done through applications for visas to many countries;

7)Political Asylum. There are many political refugees in other countries and asylum was sought to avoid persecution back home. This is done through application for such asylum because of fear for their safety should they remain in their home country;

8)Purchasing a Home. This is a secondary purpose, as work overseas can provide the necessary financial leverage to be able to purchase a home back in India. This is the impetus for them to work and work and work to earn money;

9)New Experience. Some young Indians, seeking greener pastures, move overseas to start a new life and experience overseas. Many do not see a future if they remain in India and only through leaving the country would they be able to find their opportunity to be better in life;

10)Religion. Here, many Indians spread the word of their religion to people overseas. This is one way to expand their faith and belief to others in the world.
