The adult silkworm moth lives a short time just enough time for her to lay eggs.
The silkworm young hatch in about 10 days, and they are about half a centimeter long.
The silkworm larvae thrive on white mulberry leaves. The larvae in imprisonment are often fed on this food.
Since the white mulberry leaves are the desired food of the silkworm larvae, when they are fed on it, they produce the finest outstanding silk.
The silkworm larvae carry on eating for about six weeks. After that they climb to the top of the branch and spin their cocoon. The cocoon is ended with one long thread and it takes the larvae about six days to complete it.
After a few weeks of pupating, the larvae will emerge from the cocoon as an adult moth.
When the moth is appearing, the cocoon is been destroyed. Therefore in farms, only a limited number of moths are allowed to emerge from the cocoon.
