If you really want to succeed at your weight loss goals, time management is just as important as what you eat or how hard you work out. Effective scheduling and planning ahead is how you make all of the important meetings in your life happen without missing a beat, and it is the only way to make the demands of your new healthy lifestyle work as well.

The quickest way to lose weight is to follow your program religiously. If you get caught up with the hustle of everyday life and miss workouts or hit the drive thru because you do not have time to cook, then your weight loss will be slow if it happens at all. It is important to treat your scheduled weight loss activities just as if it were a business meeting or dentist appointment. No slacking just because no one is waiting on you! What you are doing is important.

There are three things in particular that you will want to put into your calendar weekly.

1. Part of the quickest way to lose weight is to schedule your workout times and follow through no matter what. This is especially important if you are basing your caloric intake on calories burned during those exercise sessions. Exercise is a good way to allow more calories into your diet while still losing weight, but if you miss the workouts you will end up gaining weight. Scheduling the same exercises on the same days of each week and at the same time will allow it to become a natural part of your day that you do on auto-pilot, cutting down the number of workouts you miss tremendously!

2. Scheduling your daily mealtimes will help keep you eating on a regular schedule throughout the day so you do not suddenly feel your energy zapped and reach for whatever convenience foods are nearby. When you get too hungry you are more likely to make poor food choices and to eat too much. Also, scheduling mealtimes is the quickest way to lose weight if you are eating smaller meals five or six times a day. It is easy to lose track of time and realize in the afternoon there is no way to get the rest of the meals in by bedtime. If you schedule the times to eat around your schedule you can pack healthy meals for when you are away from home, and there will be no excuses to hit the drive thru or the snack machines.

3. If you really want to speed up your weight loss, consider planning the times you take in your daily carbs. Since they are your main source of energy and they hold your blood sugar levels more even, it is a good idea to eat them earlier in the day. This will allow you to have the energy you need during the most active parts of your day and burn off a lot of those calories. Carbohydrate foods are often heavier and more filling than other foods, so you will go to bed feeling lighter if you limit them to small amounts of fresh fruit or veggies in the evenings.

Being busy is not an excuse to let your weight loss goals fall to the bottom of the heap! Make yourself a priority and watch the pounds fall off much quicker.
