The Qualities Of Great Portable Tap Boards

By:

Students that love tap dancing know how important portable tap floors & boards are to their artistic development. Purchasing the right floor helps them to easily practice what they learn in tap class away from the dance school, helping them execute tap steps more easily in performance. The various tap floors sold on the Internet each have distinct advantages and disadvantages. With so many options, most people have a very difficult time knowing what needs to be considered when choosing a portable tap floor.

Believe me, great portable tap boards are easy to pick out when you know what to look for!

Choosing a tap floor that is light in weight should be your first priority. By selecting a floor that is easy to lift and move about, you will help yourself get the most out of your purchase. Obviously, a portable tap floor that is a hassle to pull out and put back is not very useful as you will find yourself unwilling to go through the trouble of using it.

Along with being lightweight, an ergonomic structure for practice floors is important. They should be easily transported and have easy methods of grip, to allow their owner to pick them up and carry them without strain. The last thing any dancer wants to do is find that, although he or she has selected a practice board they think will suit their needs, they can't carry it more than a few steps with any level of comfort!

Practicing tap steps can really place a lot of stress on tendons, ligaments, and joints. As you evaluate potential tap floors, remember that you must choose one that absorbs the impact forces produced by tap, much like studio dance floors. Protecting your body must be a primary concern if you are to have a long tap career! Any floor you consider needs to include a means of reducing the amount of shock that you are exposed to.

For tap dancers to fully express themselves, the sounds produced when they hit the floor have to be clear and resonant. This musical aspect of tap dancing must be practiced and can be severely undermined if a dancer selects a portable floor that does not produce good, resonant sounds. Getting the right tap board will ensure that tap dancers are hearing themselves correctly, freeing them to more fully express themselves through rhythm.

Finally, your portable tap floor should not be overly expensive. Great floors can be purchased for less than $200 so don't be suckered into paying too much!
