The Options You Have For Braces

By:

In the past, if you or anyone you knew had to get braces, you did not have a lot of options. You pretty much knew that you would have to find a dentist who would attach the old school metal bracket braces to your teeth. Now, if you have to have braces, you have more options.

If you need braces, you should look into all of the different options that are available. The reason for this is that they each have pros and cons and each person has different needs. If you do not know all of the options, you would not be able to make a decision on what is best for you. The best way to straighten your teeth is the old school metal bracket braces. The dentist attaches metal brackets to your teeth and then connects them with a wire. They do the best job in getting your teeth straight and they can also handle the most difficult teeth. One of the big benefits is that you can tighten the braces while they are on. This means you can use them all throughout the straightening process. This type of braces is also the least expensive option.

However, the drawback to this type of braces is that people usually do not like to wear them. They can take a little while to get used to because they are cumbersome in your mouth. Of course, another problem is that they are very visible. There are now options available to use colors or even ceramic brackets. The colors are great for kids who want to show off their personality a little more. The ceramic options can be done in the color of your teeth which makes them a little less noticeable.

Another option for getting your teeth straightened is to use plastic aligner trays. These trays are made of plastic and they go over the top or bottom of your teeth. Since these trays are clear, they are much less noticeable to other people when you wear them. One of the pros and the cons of this type of treatment is that they are removable. This is good because you can take out the trays when you eat and you can take them out to clean them. However, you have to remember to put the trays back in. Sometimes, kids use this as an excuse to not wear them all the time which means the length of the treatment has to be extended.

Another option that is becoming more and more popular is invisible braces. This a perfect option for someone who has relatively serious problems, but they really do not want the visibility issues of standard metal braces. These braces have the brackets attached to the back side of the teeth. The downside to invisible braces is they take a little longer for the person wearing them to get used to them. Another downside is that they are usually more expensive because only dentists who have been specially trained can put them on.
