The Only 4 Tips You Need For Writing An Effective Sales Copy

By:

I looked up "writing an effective sales copy" today and got 5,150,000 search results! Realizing that a lot of tips mostly just elaborate on the basics, I thought that for today's post, I'll share 4 amazing tips on writing an effective sales copy that I learned from the Copywriter's Guild Course.

It's an excellent course, and while these tips are very basic, I believe they add up all the "secrets" in sales copywriting. I trust these tips will help you the next time you create a sales copy!

1. Start with the prospect; not the product.

We all know this. But why do we still see sales copies that immediately talk about the product or service?

Always, always start with your prospect - talk to them in your introduction line. Don't just go ahead and sell the product.

Ever heard of the "so what" test?

When you're finished writing, review what you have written and put your copy to the test by asking, "so what?" or "who cares?". By doing the you can "fix" your copy and expand it a bit.

2. Talk to the prospects' needs and wants.

Furthermore, this is something that we already know. Benefits sell, and not features right?

So when writing an effective sales copy, remember put yourself in the shoes of your prospect and ask: "what's in it for me?"

Learn a little bit about the basic human motivators. Let them know exactly what's in it for them by writing copy that evokes a specific emotion.

3. Build a bridge from your customers to your product.

Now that you've "talked" to your prospects, point out on what your product can do to answer their needs. This is the time to show off!

Do you offer the lowest rate, the fastest delivery, the best guarantee, etc? Back up what you say. When writing an effective sales copy, tell the benefits and back up what you say.

4. Ask for the sale.

Dont' get squeamish! After "talking" to your prospect with your copy, ask for the sale!

Never think that your prospect will know what to do next. Communicate with them what you want them to do next -- do you want them to buy now, call, complete an order form, sign up for your newsletter or join your forum? Go ahead and tell them so!

Keep these 4 things in mind when you write sales copies. If you really think about it, these are the ONLY things you need to know by heart if your goal is to sell!
