The O.c And All Its Wonderful Music

There is a variety of music that was played during some of the episodes of the O.C. The main focus of music was indie rock. Therefore, they ended up releasing six soundtracks during the series. Then in the second season the was a concert venue added into the mix. The venue was called "The Bait Shop." There were a lot of bands that were introduced at the venue.

Some of these bands were The Walkmen, The Killers, Modest Mouse, The Thrills, Rachael Yamagata, Death Cab for Cutie and The Subways. In addition to performing at the venue, they all made guest appearances on the show. The show also debuted music singles from artists. Some of these artists were the Beastie Boys, U2, Beck, Coldplay, Gwen Stefani, and The Shins. A lot of these artists saw an increase in their sales due to fact of their music being played on the show.

The first band to appear on the show was Rooney. They are a great example of an increase of sales because they had a 200 percent increase. Imogen Heap became a household name after their song premiered on the show. Youth Group recorded a song just for the show. This band got over 5,000 iTunes downloads in the first week after it premiered. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah were asked to perform but they denied it because they thought it would destroy their reputation.

The song, I Don't Care What My Friends Think by Chris Holmes, was played at the beginning of Season 3 when Seth gets home. This is when Sandy and Kirsten are trying to figure out if Seth is lying to them about burning down the Newport group office while Ryan is trying to convince Seth to tell the truth. The song plays for the second time while Marissa is talking to Ryan about getting rid of Volchok. The last time the song is played is when Ryan's mom is telling him goodbye.

The song, Orange Sky by Alexi Murdoch, was played in Season 1 when Ryan and Marissa are eating lunch together and talking about Teresa's decision. The song, The Sea and The Rhythm by Iron & Wine, was played in Season 1 while Ryan, Marisa, Seth and Summer walk along the beach and reminisce over the beginning of the year. The song, Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley, was played during the final minutes of Season 1 while Ryan leaves his new home, Marissa goes to her new home, and Seth is sailing away.
