The Normal Hair Growth Cycle

By:

Hair is formed at the base of the follicle which is like a little pocket in the skin. In addition, hair is part of a cycle that allows the hair to grow rest and fall out over a period of time. Also, hair grows in a continuous pattern known as the normal hair growth cycle. Moreover, it takes around 33 weeks for the face and body hair to complete the growth cycle. Furthermore, the three phrases of the individual cycle are anagen, catagen, and telogen.

The anagen stage is the quick growth stage that produces the hair protein or fiber. In addition, this stage can last between two and seven years. Also, the anagen stage is when the hair is growing from the hair follicle and scalp. Likewise, this is the phrase where hair grows at the normal high growth cycle which is around one half an inches a month. Similarly, 90% of the hair will be growing in the anagen stage at the same time. Moreover, the hair will gain a lot melanin in this phase. An unknown action causes the anagen phase to end and go into the catagen phase.

The catagen phase can last for two weeks and considered to be the breakdown phase. This is the stage that the hair is separated from its nutritional source and the hair stops growing. The catagen phase marks the end of the active growth stage and changes begin to occur in the hair follicle. Furthermore, this stage is follow by the resting phase which can last for five to six weeks.

The telogen phase lasts from five weeks to five months and considered to be the resting period. In addition, the telogen phase is the stage where no hair is produced. Also, only 10% of the hair follicles are resting in this stage at one time. Moreover, hair in the telogen phase will shed or fall from the scalp. Also, there will be some leftover hair that will shed at the beginning of the anagen stage. At the end of this phase, the cycle will repeat and start with the anagen phase.

The length of the normal hair growth cycle depends on genetics and environmental conditions. It is important to understand the hair growth cycle because this can help with preventing hair loss or baldness.
