The Non Commissioned Officer's Military Ring

By:

The Non Commissioned Officer is known as the backbone of the Army and this saying is true. The NCO is known to the civilian and military world by the title of Sergeant. The Sergeant is responsible for executing the plans of the Commissioned Officers Corps. In other words when you need a job done give it to the Sergeant so that he can handle it.

Commissioned Officers see troops on a daily basis but their interaction is limited. The Sergeant deals directly with the enlisted soldiers 24 hours a day. The troop learns to look up to the Sergeant as an example of what he or she should develop into as they mature. They have to see the Sergeant as a sort of a Superman and have reverence and respect him.

The Sergeant has to lead by example. A good NCO (Sergeant) cares for his or her troops as though they are their children. The Sergeant is responsible for the health, morale, and welfare of enlisted troops. He or she is responsible for training the troop in military as well as life matters. A good NCO will insure that the soldiers family is also taken care of. I have seen NCOs train soldiers in all aspects of life to include personal hygiene, balancing their checkbooks, and driving an automobile. NCOs will often visit their troops, give them rides when they dont have transportation, and sometimes loan them money.

The NCO is the representative for his or her unit. They must account for the whereabouts and actions of their troops at all times. If a soldier fails the NCO has failed in their leadership abilities. When the soldier has not listened to instruction and brought his cold weather gear to the field, it is the NCO who allows them to use theirs. Once he or she has insured that the troops have dug their foxholes the NCO must go and dig their own. It is the small units under the Sergeant which usually have the greatest influence on the battle. Battles are not necessarily won by the big army. They are usually won by the actions of a few brave men who just happen to be at the right place at the right time.

The squad leader and the team leader are normally the lowest level of NCO leadership. They are usually the toughest and brightest of the small group that they lead. They will have the respect of their troops because of their example. They have to translate the instructions that they receive from their superiors into a digestible plan of action for their subordinates. The motto for the team leader in battle is follow me and do as I do. In other words when that leader advances his team advances with him. If he goes left they go left. If he goes right they go right. The military has made it as simple as they possibly can.

We have many options available for the NCO who wants to create a military ring to commemorate their time in service. Many of our Sergeants will choose to place their rank in the center of the stone. We have all NCO ranks from the E-5 all the way up to Command Sergeant Major. This is probably the most popular option available for the NCO ring.

There are many other options to choose from, such as the units that the NCO has served in, the campaigns that he or she has participated in, and the jobs that they have performed while they served in the military. Military Ring Express
