The Many Different Causes Of Water Damage

So, you have recently dealt with some water damage from the house you bought. The previous owner claims that the house was clean and in perfect condition before you bought it, but the mold growth, rotting wood, stained ceilings, and rusty shingles are all telling an entirely different story. What could have cause this damage, and what are some good methods to make repairs, you ask? Well here are several possible causes, and a few tried and true solutions.

Let's say the water damage is in your kitchen. If this is the case, you should begin looking underneath the sink for leaks. When or if you find a leak, you should tighten the pipes, and if that does not work, you should call a plumber and see what can be done. After you have your pipes fixed, you should learn what kind of water damage you are dealing with. If you discover there is only mold, you should assess whether or not it is only surface level mold, or something more serious. If it is only surface mold, you can purchase a cleaning agent from your local department store, and that should be enough. If the cleaning agent is not enough, then you should consult a professional cleaner who deals with things like this on a regular basis.

Another source of water damage is that of broken or damaged shingles on your roof. Leaking roofs can cause serious problems for your ceilings if they are not repaired as quickly as possible. You should inspect your attic for any signs of mold or of rotted wood. You should also get on your roof and look for any shingles that are out of place, broken, or damaged. If you find any of these, than you should have them repaired or replaced immediately. When it rains, water may get through the shingles and this can get the wooden foundation wet, and this causes a safety hazard to your household. If you discover that the damage is irreparable, then you should speak with your insurance company to see whether or not there is anyway to compensate for this.

Another source of water damage is in the plumbing of homes with more than one floor. There could be problems with the plumbing on the second floor, and that could lead to unsightly water stains and things like that. Leaks on the second floor can, of course, lead to problems with the ceiling and walls on the first floor.
