Other enthusiasts say to just clean it with mild soap and water and then reapply a layer of oil to it and that's all that's needed. Still others recommend buying the enamel-coated versions of the cookware.

Whatever version of cast iron cookware is eventually selected, though, understand that one will be getting an extremely durable and very versatile set of cooking utensils. They can be found in a variety of sizes and shapes, including as skillets and griddles or pans and even woks. Many are very non-stick in characteristic, which also adds to their versatility.
