Proper planning prevents poor performance is a saying that many managers have started to utilise around the country as they try to streamline and inspire their businesses to new heights, but when it comes to inspiring the individuals within the company that task often falls to the office manager. There are a number of complicated tasks that you will have to undertake as an office manager and most of those tasks revolve around health and safety within the organisation.

The number of health and safety incidents reported appears to rise year on year, this would suggest that there is a definitive need for health and safety training. I'm sure if you are honest you have seen several employees breaking or bending the rules everyday of your working life. Cutting the odd corner here and there is not such an issue, but you need to point out the fact that even small misdemeanours could result in long term health issues. It may only be one box today that someone lifts without bending their knees but over time those boxes add up and you could end up with a very sore back. The best option would be to force members of staff who flaunt the safety guidelines to take additional health and safety training.

No-one likes to take health and safety training at the best of times, but forcing people to retake the training every time they decide to ignore the rules would be the perfect way to ensure future co-operation from your employees. If employees want to complain about the training program then just say that it is important that they take the training so that the company is covered against legal claims for injury.

There are a number of companies that are just waiting to find a disgruntled employee that would like to take on their company in a dispute over an injury suffered at work. Everyone who works within your organisation should have had some form of health and safety training, whether this has been administer through some form of computer based training or alternatively through an instructor led course. If an employee hasn't taken a health and safety course then you could be liable against a claim for injury. You will be amazed at the amount of objects that can cause injury in an office, so try to ensure that new employees are made to sit through a health and safety training presentation on their induction.
