The 11th annual Hooters Swimsuit Contest is about to take place in Las Vegas on July 18th. In just over 10 short years, this contest has grown from a small town affair with prize money totaling just $2,500 to an international event with over 130 girls competing for the title and over $150,000 in prizes and money.

Whether you like it or think it really is a "delightfully tacky" (their words, not mine) affair, the fact is that the Hooters concept is a success, both in America and in such countries as Greece, Germany, United Kingdom, Singapore, Austria, Switzerland, Taiwan, China and Australia.

The Hooters swimsuit contest is just a small part of the Hooters operation, which has changed little from its early days in Clearwater, Florida way back in 1983. The scantily clad Hooters girls unashamedly flaunt their sex appeal as they serve seafood and spicy chicken wings all to the sound of the golden oldies jukebox music.

If you ask any of the Hooters girls whether they believe they are being exploited, they would all categorically say "no".
