Brief History of NBA
NBA was founded in 1946 by some of the big owners of the Ice Hockey arenas in Canada and the United States. It started off as the Basketball Association of America and the leagues first ever game was played on November1, 1946, between the Toronto Huskies and New York Knickerbockers. However, August 1949 was a historical moment as, the Basketball Association of America and the National Basketball League merged together to form NBA, as we know it at present. When it started off the NBA had a total of 17 franchises, which by the year 1954 had dropped down to just 8.In the early period, many teams of the NBA played basketball in smaller cities like Fort Wayne, Rochester and other such places, however, in due course most of these teams moved to bigger cities. Boston Celtics and New York Knicks were the only two teams that did not make a move to bigger cities.

NBA and the other League Members
NBA is a relatively new entrant as compared to the other league teams such as the MLB, NHL and NFL, yet it is more recognized the world over. NBA has a great history and has always been represented by well-known players and teams. The NBA players are known to earn more money than all players from all the other professional sports leagues. In the past players didnt believe in making basketball a career, as the teams did not pay well and playing basketball was more like pursuing a hobby. Now, however the basketball players make a lot of money, as the franchises pay them very well. The basketball players have other avenues too from where they can earn money. The NBA players get paid for events they attend and for products they endorse.

NBA players and teams have a big fan following which is not limited to the United States. The teams and players are international celebrities and recognized across the globe. The NBA tournaments have become so popular now that they are telecast live via satellite television, to a number of nations. The team jerseys are also popular and are sold as fashion wear. The NBA tournaments draw a lot of excited crowds and the tickets to all matches are sold out way in advance.
