The Hills Have The Eye

By:

Reality shows now dominate most of our TV, and we definitely take them for granted Shows like The Only Way is Essex, Big Brother, XFactor, Made in Chelsea, Scousewives to name some of the popular recent UK viewings
But, for me, it all started with The Hills back in 2006my first guilty obsession with real-life drama, and I know Im not on my own! The Hills is a show based on the real lives of a wealthy bunch of socialite friends in the beautiful surroundings of Southern California, America. It quickly became addictive and ignited a drive in me for the American dream and a taste of the life.
Reality TV series, including The Hills, have been strongly criticised for setting unrealistic expectations of real-life by claiming that their high dramatic scenes cause viewers to accept these as the norm. But I totally disagree. Dont get me wrong Im not a reality junkie, there are some shows Id rather watch paint dry, but, we choose which ones are for us. My experience with reality shows was very positive! The Hills challenged me; giving me a drive and determination for successI felt a connection to the stars of the show; their lives, their passions and quickly decided I wanted the opportunity to experience it for myself.
In 2009 I made the best decision of my life and career to move over to California and study at FIDM, the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, inspired by my love of The Hills. So, really, is that a bad thing? I did have high expectations, yes, but that gave me a goal, an aim, and an understanding of what I wanted to get from my experience. It was a valuable time that built my character, networking, technical skills and dreams
The Hills documented the success of their professional lives as well as personal, providing some great business women role models...
Lauren Conrad was the first to show her interest in fashion. She showed off her first sewing machine during an early MTV Cribs filming, studied at FIDM, interned at Teen Vogue and worked for the cut-throat Kelly Cutrone at Peoples Revolution. She then went on to a number of new business ventures including writing and releasing her very own fashion collections The Lauren Conrad Collection and LC by Lauren Conrad. Whitney Port always shared the passion and worked with Lauren at Teen Vogue & Peoples Revolution. She followed her dreams over to The Big Apple and starred in her own show The City, New York, where she worked for Diane von Furstenberg. She too released her own clothing line, calling it Whitney Eve.
The latest Hills star to hit these headlines is Audrina Patridge. It appears rumours are serious about the launch of her lingerie/swimwear collection 2012 following news she quit her job at Bongo this week and has requested a sewing machine for Christmas in preparation.
Theres no doubt that these 3 women have worked hard whilst living in the limelight. So, instead of being negative or judging, why not let it encourage and start to help you believe nothing is impossible.
