The use of music in television is becoming very popular. Making unknown bands more popular and also making otherwise ordinary scenes more interesting.

Gilmore Girls was an excellent show, but what it made it so good? Was it the witty relationship between mother and daughter? What it the dramas that people relate to in everyday life? We can all agree that it was numerous amounts of things that made the show so popular. Could the music played in certain scenes have been one of the reasons?

The music in the show varied from a variety of different artist. Bands including Metallica, Duran Duran, The Go-Go's, and even The Smashing Pumpkins. Also many guest appearances from bands that include Sonic Youth, The Shins, and The Bangles. Could these bands help to boost the rating of the show?

Everyone knows you need a good theme song to catch people's attention. Theme songs have been the heart of TV shows since the beginning of Television. Carole King collaborated with her daughter Louise Goffin to re-record her 1971 song, Where You Lead, for the Gilmore Girls theme song. If you've never heard it, it can be downloaded through the Itunes store or on sites like Amazon.com. You can even purchase music Cd's from the seasons of the Gilmore Girls.

The soundtrack includes "Car Song" by Elastica, playing right before the Jess and Rory get into the car accident in "Teach Me Tonight". A song that fit perfectly in that scene! Other great scene, Lane plays "I'm the Man Who Murdered Love" by XTC from her new CD for Rory in "The Lorelais' First Day at Chilton". A great song by the way! Oh and you have to remember the hilarious scene with "God Only Knows" by Claudine Longet playing. The song Rory and Lane try to listen to in "Double Date" (Season 1, Episode 12) while Lorelai is trying to study and keeps making them turn it down and then up. Kudos to whoever chooses the music for the scenes in the show. These songs made the show more appealing to audiences. Whether it made us laugh, cry, or want to get up and dance!

So let's get down to getting some of these questions answered. Research shows that almost all the people watching the show, watched because Lorelai and Rory's relationship is the type of relationship some mothers and daughter wished they had. Other research proves that the music in the show was just the icing on the cake. Sales show that since the release date of "Our Little Corner of The World" there have been 15,192 albums sold. So that's a little more than half of the fan 35,188 on Facebook.com. That has to account for something, since most of the songs are songs the age group watching the show has probably never heard before. It means the songs in the show touched these people enough to get them to want to buy the soundtrack to Gilmore Girls.

You could probably throw any song or any band into a show today. But, if the song isn't a perfect fit for what going on in a scene or what's happening in a show, chances are you want get good rating. The music in the Gilmore Girls is a part of what makes the show so good. The soundtrack from the show sold 15,192 copies and probably more as more people start to get in the show.
