The Demand Of Led Backlight Will Reach The Peak In 2012

The latest quarterly report shows that in 2011 the use of LED will grow 20% over the year of 2010. The total revenues of LED backlighting and illumination in 2010 were 7.2 billion dollars. In 2014 it is expected to reach 12.7 billion U.S. dollars. The demand increase of the lighting market is the main driver of strong growth of LED.

Currently, the main applications of LED include lighting and backlighting, such as LCD TV. The overall market demand for LED continues to increase, but the demand for LED backlighting decreased. And it began to shift towards LED lighting applications.

The senior analyst said that due to the high inventory and slow sales of LED-backlit TV in the fourth quarter of 2010,the first and second quarters of 2011, the demand for LED backlight market thus reduced. Currently, in all small and medium-size LCD products, LED backlighting's penetration rate of the mobile PC is nearly 100%. The penetration of LCD monitor and LCD TV has continued to increase, but the number of package of each LED reduced.

The research data indicate that in 2011 the total demand for LED-backlit is 45.9 billion units. Since LCD TV becomes a major application of LED-backlit in 2010, it has accounted for 50% of the demand. In 2012 it is expected to reach the highest value. But with the reduction in the number of each LED package, TV demand in 2013 will decline slightly.

In the lighting field, Japan is currently the world's largest LED light bulb market. The domestic LED lighting market is also rapidly heating up. The one year after 1 October of this year is the transition period. Since October 1, 2012, the country will ban on the sale and import of ordinary incandescent lighting of 100 watts and above. The policy will make room for the rapid expansion of the LED.

China is a large producer and consumer of incandescent power. Last year, the production and domestic sales of incandescent lamp were 3.85 billion and 1.07 billion. It is estimated that, if all the incandescent lamps are replaced with energy-saving lamps, we can save 48 billion kwh of electricity in China, equivalent to reducing 48 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

In 2011 China will become the largest LED street lamp market, accounting for 55% of global market share. But it will decline slightly in 2014 to 50%. From 2011 to 2014, the pace of development of LED light bulbs in China, North America and Europe will be faster than other parts of the world.
