The Delhi Metro

Delhi the National Capital Territory of India is highly populated. The population of the city is growing with such a rapid rate that it was in the year 1970 a study was conducted by the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) to make some proper arrangements to tackle the challenges. The recommendation was made by the CRRI to set up a Mass Rapid Transit Network for the Delhi city. Later many studies were conducted and numerous plans were made from time to time. The final result of all the studies and the efforts made was that there was the commencement of the Delhi Metro Rail. This metro was set up to give solution to the everyday rising traffic of the city. The train is well equipped with all modern day world-class facilities and machinery and facilities. The Metros are now the life line and the pride of the city.

At present, the Metro Train of Delhi are operational on 3 lines, these lines are as follows:

Delhi Metro Line One: Shahdara - Rithala
The 1st line of Delhi Metro is operational between Shahdara and Rithala. The total distance covered by this line is 22 km, there are 18 stations on this route.

Delhi Metro Line Two: Vishwa Vidyalaya - Central Secretariat
The 2nd line of the Metro runs between Vishwa Vidyalaya to Central Secretariat. The train on this route became operational from 20th December'04. The distance covered by the train is 11 km and there are 10 stations on this route.

Delhi Metro Line Three: Indraprastha - Barakhamba Road - Dwarka
The 3rd line of Delhi Metro started between Barakhamba and Dwarka Sector 9. The total distance covered by the train is of 29.29 km and there are 28 stations on this route. Services on this route began in November 2006.

The Metro train services start at 6am in the morning and the train runs till 10pm in the night. There are numerous who board the train during this time period, the commuting has become very convenient for the citizens of Delhi due to these metros. There are many efforts being made by the Delhi Metro Rail system to make it accessible to people to more and more number of the people. There are plans that that the Delhi Metro is going to cross the borders of Delhi and reach Gaziabad, Gurgaon and NOIDA till 2010 when the Commonwealth Games are suppose to start in India.
